Mission: Peace, or Something Like It
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: Current

ON

[OLD]

Erin's expression was one of utter revulsion. ''As much as I'll like to express what I think of the squads in question- remember who we're dealing with. These people are obviously... barbaric and unhinged. We spend in patrols of fighters and squads of marines and they're going to assume we're here to attack.''
She sat back, folding her arms. ''How do you think they're going to react? And remember, they do have nukes. Sending in marines will be no help if they see fit to threaten us. We'll only be adding fuel to the fire.''
''Now as much as I'd like a heavily armed squad with us, its not a good idea, considering who we're dealing wit

[NEW]

Damon, who had stayed remarkably quiet so far, felt now was a good time to interject. "I can appreciate your concern Lieutenant, however, these people have been fighting for a long time now. Likely the only thing they will respect is a strong presence." He looked briefly over to Kaj. "Aside from that, If Lieutenant Mikkola is accurate about a strong mercenary force then Starfleet personnel likely could become a target for attack. Having a diplomat along with Federation officers makes you a valuable bargaining chip. I wouldn't have anyone go down without at least a squad of Marines."

Erin looked like she would very much like to argue the point, but instead she sat back and shrugged.
''You're the boss.'' They both had valid points. It was up to the higher-ups to decide what to do now. All the pouting and yelling in the world wasn't going to help.
''Just remember, in a warzone, strong presences usually are seen as threats to be taken out. Be careful to make the distinction clear.''

Nava was thoughtful for a moment "Who will be at the negotiation table? Do we know their names?" She asked and then "What about those that are seeking amnesty? How are we going to decide who stays and who goes?" She asked as she made notes about the situation on a PaDD "How many are we willing to take?" She asked

Jaxara smiled, and grabbed a cup of coffee. His concern had been addressed, and, as he wouldn't be going down planet, he simply decided it was now time to allow the others to argue amongst themselves.

He sat a cup down in front of Alexandria, and nodded. She understood his nod, and became less annoyed with Jaxara, in general.

Kalyka was generally quiet until she had something to say. A diplomatic mission...that meant generally that her job would be just repairs if someone attacked. "How likely is it that someone will attack the ship? Prophets forbid something happens to the away team, but what happens if those mercenaries decide to try to take the ship?"

"Forcefields, Marines, Security personnel, and, just for added measure, contained pockets of a knock-out gas, with remote access panels in Security headquarters." Chief Warrant Officer Winchester noted. "I'm fairly certain that is the least of our worries."

Sam raised a hand to get their attention. "I appreciate all your feedback. You have valid concerns. First, we don't know what has changed since The Union arrived on Turkana IV. Fighting has ceased and they're restoring order. Our job is simply to oversee the negotiations." She looked at Damon and Jaxara. "There will be both Marines and Security with each team. The first team will go down to make sure it's safe for the negotiations team. The second team will consist of Lieutenants Tal and Nava. And myself. Karma will lead the first team. That way, one of us will be on the Calypso at all times. We simply don't know at this point what we'll find, we we'll have to play it by ear."

Delon had continued to sit back in his chair and listen to every person that spoke up. He had his opinions on the matter but decided that at the given time there wasn't anything for him to add. In a sense he would be repeating what others had already stated. The primary goals of the mission didn't seem to have much to do with him or his department. So he would simply continue to do what he has been unless otherwise specified by the commander.

Nava listened and took in the information and processed it and made a few more notes on the PaDD she had with her "Are the negotiations going to be held in a neutral place?" She asked.

"They will be held in the old Federation colony," Sam replied. "I assume in the former command center."

Leanne Bowen leaned back as she sighed. What a short shore leave..., she thought as she glanced at her PADD of the info about this next mission. Earlier, she was not happy with her co-worker, Doctor Hart. After she came back from the starbase, she found the EMH to be activated in sickbay yesterday. She remained unhappy about it and not sure if she should forget about it.

O'Connor raised a hand, as confidently as he could manage. "If you want, Science Department can get geared up for the appropriate lifesigns before we hit the system. Figure out a rough estimate of what we're dealing with in terms of numbers, health, the like. From there, we can send the findings over to Life Sciences - Medical - for a more exact analysis. Just to let us know what we're dealing with."

The doctor sat up straight as she looked at the science officer, "I'd like to know about that, too."

"Sure. Get as much information as you can on the current condition of the planet and its people," Sam said, nodding.

"Commander," Damon started "Who exactly asked for our presence? Is the The Union looking for support, or is this a Federation initiative? It might make a difference on how we proceed if we know that the Federation is looking to get their foot in the figurative door."

Jaxara nodded. "Don't forget, the Federation has a pretty big reputation as a mediator for peace conferences. I wouldn't put it past someone to be abusing our good name, in order to get high-ranking officials from both sides in the same place for a one-hit explosive assassination attempt."
