Mission:
Peace, or Something Like It
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: Current

Samantha set out fresh pastries and fruit in the center of the conference table. She'd given orders the day before for everyone to be ready to depart in 48 hours. And set up a meeting for the morning.
Now she wanted to give the senior staff something to snack on while they discussed their new mission.
Finally, she set out cups, juice, coffee and milk, then waited for everyone to arrive.
Tovan stepped into the conference room after the sliding doors had retracted to their respectable sides with a light hissing noise. A quick look at the room he noticed right away that outside of Commander York he was the first on there. The second thing he noticed was the treats that had been left for the senior staff, and he assumed they were put out by the Commander.
"Commander." Tovan said with a nod of his head as he approached an empty chair located closer to the top of the table where he assumed the Commander and the Executive officer would be sitting. He sat down and placed a PADD in front of him. There had been a lot of talk by the enlisted crew about a mission of some sort. And now there was a briefing that involved the senior staff. It was looking like the old saying was true..."Where there is smoke...there is fire..." It was a chance of pace that he was looking forward too. So he sat there quietly awaiting the arrival of the rest of the senior crew and the beginning of this meeting.
"Hello, Lieutenant. I hope you've settled in to your department," Sam said.
Erin was the second to arrive, immediately brightening up at the sight of coffee on the table.
It didn't take an idiot to know that this was a mission briefing, though the cups and treats always made her suspicious that there was bad news lurking somewhere out of sight.
''More bribes, commander?'' She asked brightly with a grin, nodding at the food before sitting down at the nearest seat.
"Of course," Sam said, grinning. "I much prefer you to be happy when I let you know about a new mission."
Damon arrived after a few minutes, having made sure to budget his time so that he arrived early this time. He stepped into the room and smiled at Samantha.
"Captain." He said with a warm smile. He made his way over to the treats table and poured himself a coffee. "Excited for our first mission?" he asked her.
"You should be. This one's diplomatic," she said, returning his smile. "No caves."
Damon chuckled lightly and took a sip of the black coffee. "Knowing you, you'll find one."
Sam just grinned. Knowing her luck of late, she probably would.
Jaxara appeared, with an escort. Chief Warrant Officer Alexandria Winchester was more or less shoving him along. She pointed at a chair, and he sat, with no questions asked. "Security accounted for, Captain." The woman said, in the softest voice she could muster. It didn't come out that soft, really.
Kaj arrived next, walking more normally at that moment than he had in the past few days. The aches from the hard riding were fading, and the new ship and staff had positively energized him.
Striding over to the food in front of him he poured himself some coffee and grabbed one of each kind of fruit and a pastry, greeting everyone in general while he did so.
"Well well, greetings everybody, did I miss the betting pool where we guess where we're shipping out to next?"
He chuckled and found the nearest empty seat, which in this case happened to be right next to Erin. Giving her a smile for her own, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small telltale metal flask and poured a bit of its contents into his coffee. He sighed contentedly and was about to start stirring the liquids together when something in the back of his mind fired a neuron.
Realizing what he was holding he looked up and back at forth at Damon, Sam and Erin repeatedly, then remembered why that particular neruon had fired. Kaj held the little flask up which had an etched emblem of the Utopia Planitia emblem on one side and his name and dates of service there on the other.
"Don't worry, it's synthehol, no ethanol whatsoever, just cloudberry liqueur flavoring. The replicators never get the mix quite right for my tastes so I find it easier to do it myself."
Sam just raised an eyebrow at Kaj.
Nava walked in and quietly sat at the end near the door. Her first staff meeting and for the normally outgoing Ferengi, she felt shy. She gave a quick nod to those already in the room and sat waiting for the meeting to begin.
Doctor Bowen walked through the doors with a cup of coffee in her hands. She went around the table and took a seat, yawning a few times. She nodded at the Captain, wondering where they are going next. She noticed the table with snacks and drinks, but she refused to eat after eating breakfast earlier.
Karma stepped into the room and made his way to his chair. As he sat down he looked around at the others and smiled. Everyone appeared to be in high spirits and that made him feel better.
Kalyka entered, padds in hand, and took a seat. She had already eaten so didn't take anything to eat, but did pour herself a glass of water.
Kaj watched Nava come in and was about to say something, but Dr. Bowens entrance triggered another thought that took a little more precedence, so that came out first.
"Hey Doc, how's our new Ensign, Tychu? He told me about needing to check into sickbay for his artificial support, just wondering if he's fit for duty."
He then turned to Nava.
"And you missy, you missed band practice last night, what gives? Were you busy seducing the young unsuspecting Marines again?
Nava laughed "You know me." She said "Actually I fell asleep and didn't hear my alarm going off. I'm sorry Kaj. I'll make sure I'm there next week." She blushed she had had a bit much in the way of wine the night before and it had put her out like a light.
The doctor looked across the table at Kaj, "Tychu is fine. He will be fit for duty tomorrow..."
