Mission:
Food for the Gods
Location: Various
[CONTINUED]
[OLD]
"Fascinating," T'Pral quietly uttered at the rear Engineering station. She had been monitoring the warp core's EPS power output and their warp coil efficiency during cruise. She had to hand it to Lieutenant Dixon - the ship was running well, and at an efficiency increase of 0.5%. This new mystery, however, was certainly pulling her attention.

Shan gave a little flick of her fingers and shared the signal direction and trajectory with the helm to zone in on the frequency; meanwhile, she tried to get a little more definitive contact, with no success. "I'm not getting any response to requests for more information or to attempts to hail them," she said. As more information came into her console about the location, she relayed out loud. "It seems to be from the Pun'Kut system- just a few days away at warp six?" She looked to the helm to confirm the timetable.
"Warp six?" Yuk asked as she tapped at the console. "I can have us there faster if you let me..." She turned in her chair and looked back at Munich.
Shan resisted the urge to roll her eyes. What was with this need for speed that helmsmen always seemed to feel? True, the ship could go flat out at warp 9.7, well technically 9.9 for half a day but that was really quibbling things, but that did a number on not just the engines but the power supply all over the ship. That was why standard cruising speed was warp 7, and they often went slower than that if time wasn't an issue. And it's not like this was a distress call or anything. It was a repair request for something they weren't even sure the could- or should- repair. But from what she had seen, most of the flyers wanted to go peddle to the metal all the time if they could. Must be something about being in pilot's chair and having all that power literally at your fingertips, she mused. She'd remember to ask Savar; Intel agents were often called adrenaline junkies, maybe he could recognize the signs in another.
"Go to Warp eight." Munich instructed. "Maintain that until further notice."
Sam walked out of her Ready Room with Damion and noticed the activity. "Report."
"Commadore, we are going to Warp Seven as we have a distress signal and a locational fix to follow
"What's the distress call?" Sam asked.
Shan looked up from her console. "It's not exactly a distress call, Ma'am. It seems to be an automated request for repair. No details on what is damaged or what needs to be fixed, and so far any attempts to communicate beyond that have not been answered. It's just a computer generated message saying that repairs are needed at this location."
"Have you run it through the computer to see if you can learn any more about it?" Sam asked. "Like what would send out such a distress call?" If she could get a ballpark idea of what the message might be about, she would have a better idea as to what they were heading for.
Shan shook her head. "Nothing in our system is pinging a recognition. Until we get close enough to get some long range scans, or unless the message changes and gives up some more details, we're pretty much in the dark," she said.
Sam nodded. "Thank you."
She turned to the helm. "How long until we arrive?" Sam asked Yui.
"Eight hours at present speed."
[Sickbay]
Alexandra was working on some routine checkups, with which she was long overdue, when she heard her daughter slipping into the room, obviously determined to interrupt her mother in performing her duties. Life has been uneventful in the last few weeks, which was nice for a change. One could spend some time with friends and family, and also make sure that everything operates well and ready for their next mission.
"Hi, mom.", Jolene waved with a smile.
"Hello, darling.", the doctor sat up from her desk and walked to the girl, "What are you up to today?"
"Just wondering...", the girl uttered without finishing the sentence.
"Wondering about what?" she raised a curious eyebrow.
"If I can borrow some petri dishes from your lab.", Jo finished the sentence, looking at her mother with begging puppy eyes, "Can I, mom? Pleaaase..."
"Ah, well... Let me guess. You wanna plant Arcturian weepers or Tiberian roses or maybe a Saurian palm bush?" She was still fascinated by her daughter's newly-found interest in plants, but - she shrugged - at least, she found herself a nice hobby. Plants were at least not as dangerous as if she'd be climbing walls or something.
"Palm bush.", the girl confessed, "How did you know?"
"I know you too well, darling.", Alexandra said with a warm smile, and turned to a nurse, "Nurse, please, can you get me five petri dishes from the lab? Thank you."
"Mooooom, you're awesome!", Jo shouted with joy.
"What else is new?", Alex looked at the girl with a sassy grin.
Jemnar came into the section of Sick Bay using his 'Signing Gloves for the Universal Translator voice to speak for him.
[I will get them for you Doctor.] He look at the little girl. [I t will only be a moment Little One.] He gave her a wink and started off to get the dishes.
[Bridge]
Leroy slipped onto the bridge after feeling the ship shift its direction. Even with inertial dampeners, there was still the slightest bit of movement when any starship changed direction. Looking out into the warp bubble they were sliding along in, he wondered why the change. What was going on that needed something like this.
Sam looked to see who joined them and smiled when she saw Mangalia. "Welcome. We may need your help when we arrive at our destination."
“We’ll be ready,” Leroy said simply. He was a little intrigued at what they would find. His fighter was ready, as was the whole squad. Stepping near the Marine on the Bridge, he waited silently to see what was going to happen.
"Good. You've got about eight hours," Sam said.
