Mission:
Food for the Gods
Location: various
ON
Sam was in the center chair on the bridge when they dropped out of warp. "Scan the system. See if you can pinpoint where the signal is coming from," she said to Ops.
"Already on it, sir. There is a lot of interference though...unusual. Definitely not a natural phenomenon. I'm working to compensate." Rosaleen was already diverting power from unneeded systems to strengthen the beams attenuation.
"Science, I want a complete survey of the system so we know what we're looking at."
"Yes, ma'am," Ronnie said.
"Mangalia, ready your fighters for a flyby. Tell them to stay out of view. I want information, I don't want to cause an incident."
Leroy nodded silently then stepped into the turbo lift. No incidents to be had, just a simple fly by. Nothing to worry about. “Fighter Bay One,” Leroy said grimly as he waited for everything to start feeling good again. He’d come up to the bridge to talk to someone, but that was moot.
[Fighter Bay One]
“Alrights boys and girls, it’s time to be the Commodore's eyes and ears. Go slow, stay out of visual range, gather everything you can.”
"It'll be good to get back in the air," Phoenix said.
Puma just nodded. She agreed with the sentiment, but going slow would be tedious.
[Sickbay]
Alexandra made the last adjustments to get sickbay and the medical staff ready for any assistance the mission might require from their part. She was busy preparing her department for the mission in the past few days, and felt somewhat overworked. Neverthless, she wanted everything to operate on the highest level, and that needed a lot of work and careful preparation.
The doctor sat behind her desk, going over a list of required medical supplies, waiting for instructions from the captain, as the Calypso was entering the star system and making her way towards their destination.
[Fighters]
The pilots launched and two-by-two set out to scan the area, taking care not to get too close to the planet and not to be seen. Just in case.
Phoenix and Puma chose to take a high flyover of the planet where the signal came from to see what readings they could get.
"Coordinates set." Wedge said over the channel.
"Flight pattern cleared." Bojay Added.
Wedge and Bojay banked for their 'fly by' of the planet to help triangulate the source of the signal.
[Bridge]
"Commodore, I'm not getting any signs of technology on the planet," Ronnie said.
"What type of culture?" Sam asked.
"From what I can tell, it's pre-warp."
Sam turned to Lei. "Are you still getting the readings?"
Shan nodded. "Yes, Ma'am. Same message, request for repairs, but nothing specific. It's a persistent little bugger, I'll give it that," she said with a little smirk.
York smiled. "Yes, it is. And we definitely should investigate."
"Ronnie," the captain said. "Prepare some probes. I want more information."
"Yes, ma'am," the science officer replied.
A few minutes later, the probes were launched.
The data, when it came in, reinforced what they already had. The society on the planet was pre-warp. And yet, they were definitely getting an automatic signal from something that came from a warp-capable civilization.
"Phoenix to Calypso."
"Calypso here."
"I'm getting odd readings from the largest colony. There's a tech pong, but mostly steam power."
"Thank you," Sam said. "Scan the area and come back."
"Yes, ma'am. Phoenix out." She took a high pass over the planet, scanning the atmosphere and planet surface as she did so. What she saw corroborated what she'd heard over the comm.
Puma took an alternate path around the planet so she could fill in any gaps. A couple of passes and the four pilots had enough data to report back to the ship.
"Phoenix to Calypso," Talia said as they approached the ship. "Scans confirm that there are several colonies on the planet. The largest one appears to have an ancient temple that corresponds to the signal we received."
"Thank you," Sam replied. "Fighters, return to base."
"Affirmative," came the reply from several different pilots.
The commodore looked at the data as it came in and frowned. "Hans, set up a briefing in fifteen minutes. I'll be in my Ready Room going over the data."
"Right away Ma'am." Munich said and gave the proper head nod. "It vill be done."
Munich tapped the PADD that would send a memo calling all department heads forthe meeting in the conference room; a second to have OPS get the room ready and five minutes before he would report to the COnfrence Room to make sure everything is ready.
