~ATTENTION ALL HANDS, YELLOW ALERT< YELLOW ALERT. REPORT TO YOUR DUTY STATIONS< YELLOW ALERT~

Sheridan stepped up to the com console...

"This is Lt. Commander Sheridan, we have received a distress signal and are responding to it's location, Our ETA is Five hours All department chiefs report to the Captain's ready room, All other hands man your stations. That is all."

Samantha was in her office running routine diagnostics on the two computer systems. When she got the word, she assigned a couple of scientists to begin long-range scans and setting things up to be ready to scan the ship inside and out when they got there. Then she made her way to the Captain's ready room.

When she walked in, she greeted Lt. Commander Sheridan and took a seat.

John greeted Sam as she walked in...

Nartu was still a little rattled form his earlier conversation with his superiors, so when he heard the announcement he was a little apprehensive. However, he sucked it up, put his qualms in the back of his mind, and reported to the Captain's ready room.

"Captain, you called." was the Cardassian's first remark

Once relieved Chris made his way to the Captains Read Room, greeting everyone before sitting down in a chair.

Doctor Bowen came in and took a seat.

Ted got the phaser hidden in a case behind the bar and put it in his belt. If red alert started, he would have to start helping with the civilians. He cast an eye over his customers. Some of the civilians were nervous. He raised his voice. "No problems yet, folks, just go back to your drinks. How about a poker tournament? 50 strips of latinum to the winner!"

Gunny Hawkes was teaching a class of Marines the finer points of ambushing when the alert sounded. Handing the class over to another instructor, Hawkes and Bella made their way to the Captain's Ready Room. Making their way to the back of the room, they made themselves comfortable standing at the back.

Sheridan saw the Gunny and his flight control Officer enter..

"Gentlemen, thanks for coming, the Captain will be here shortly."

Damon was off shift at the moment and was spending his time in the gym when the alert status changed. He quickly cleaned himself up before slipping into a spare set of fatigues found in his locker and ran out of the room.

Within a couple of minutes he arrived at the Captain's ready room and was thankful that he wasn't the last to arrive. With a quick glance he noted who wasn't there yet and quickly made his way over to the Gunnery Sergeant for a private word.

"Gunny. I've only seen progress reports so far and I have known not to trust them when it comes down to the line with a newly formed group. You have been there with the entire Company for their training. In a no-bullshit-assesment, aside from First platoon, do we have another combat effective group?"

Hawkes looked at his boss, pondering the question before he spoke. "2 Platoon's ready to go but it would mean swapping platoon leaders. 2 Platoon's leader is too nervous to make any decisions on his own." "Other than that they are ready to go."

Nartu was listening, and chimed in

"If you need any assistance, I would be happy to lend assistance, and I'm sure the rest of my Department would be glad to help out of as well in whatever you need."

There were few things that pissed off Damon more than people thinking his Marines needed "help". His natural tendacy in these matters was to think that others were looking down on them and he would need to defend their honor, often violently. That coupled with the thought that someone would listen into another's private conversation, very nearly sent him over the edge.

With clenched teeth and fists he refused to turn around. "We will be fine, thank you." Was all he could manage without lashing out. He made no attempt to hide his displeasure.

Sam had been surreptitiously watching Damon as he talked to his XO. She didn't know what Ensign Nartu had said to him, but she recognized the body language. She immediately stood up and walked casually over to Damon. "Hi," she said as she slipped her arm through his. "Can I get you something to drink, Lieutenant?" Sam smiled up at him, hoping he'd recognize that she was trying to help ease the situation.

Feeling someone touch him immediately made his body go ridged before he looked over and saw who it was. The tension he had been feeling started to bleed away and his body relaxed a bit at the sight of Samantha.

"Thank you, but i'm good for now." He said, slightly embarrased that she saw him this way. He turned to her and in a much softer tone he added, "Thank you."

"Any time," Sam whispered back. She gave him arm a gentle caress as she pulled her hand back and returned to her seat.

Without another word he looked back to Jethro and gave him a curt nod before walking over to the table and pulling up a chair next to Samantha. The entire time he refused so much as look at the TAC officer.

Sheridan witnessed the the discussion and made a mental note of it, he would not interfere with his department heads agendas in running their sections unless there was a problem. He walked to the front of the briefing room, "Well lets get started with this, You all heard the Announcement, we are en route to the last known area of the distress call. I have no further information other than what you have been told. Starfleet has been contacted."

"Do you have a copy of the distress call? I'd like to analyze it, see if there's anything Starfleet overlooked," Sam said.

"I believe we do, please get with Lieutenant Brooks and see what we can find out before we arrive in the area."

Sam nodded, making a note on her PADD.

Alex stumbled in through the door. She'd been so busy getting her department ready, she'd lost track of time. She quickly walked to the nearest seat. "Excuse me." She said to the people around her.

Sheridan watched his crew taking notes, "This will be our first go round, lets be sure the crew are alert and ready, I won't take up anymore of your time. lieutenant York can you please brief Lieutenant Adeyemon after we adjourn, lets get to work."
