From the councellors seat, Erin rolled her eyes. Evidently the anger managment times in the holodeck was'nt gonig to be enough for Mr. Jaxara
[NEW]
Jaxara merely nodded at Damon, apparently busy with the scanner board, as his 'coworker' was too busy making wisecracks about him.
Kaj had been watching the growing fight the entire time and wasn't liking what he was seeing. The slow maneuvers were giving way to longer attack runs, and the longer they got the more ships were put in danger. There was time for arguing later, at the moment the fighting should have taken precedence.
"I hate to interrupt a good row but those ships are starting to swing wide and make faster runs, looks like they could put a few of those nearby freighters in jeopardy.
Orders skipper?"
"We can't assume they're going to do anything, Kaj. It could be a lure to get us to strike first. That would give them the upper hand -- and turn everyone in the sector against the Federation. We have to continue to Turkana IV. If they attack -- which would be foolish -- then we can take action. For now, assume it's a ploy to keep us from our destination." She didn't appreciate Kaj's comment about 'interrupting a good row,' either. Things were not starting out well at all.
Jaxara watched the tactical scanners carefully. "The lesser armed freighters are backing away, apparently not wanting to get involved. I'm a little worried about the intents of the Andorian Corsair." He muttered. "I've seen their tactics before. They are just nuts."
"Agreed," Sam said, watching the viewscreen. "The best thing we can do is ensure peace on Turkana IV which will spread to the rest of the sector."
Jaxara nodded. "Aye ma'am. No hostile action, including weapons arming, until ordered, or fired upon."
Kaj said
"Roger that, adjusting course and speed to give them a wide berth."
But as he did so he still kept the small viewscreen of the fight open on his console while thinking to himself
'Screw the court martial, if civilians become entangled we have to act. I won't have blood on my hands from all of this.'
At that moment however the shooting wasn't escalating beyond the cardassian and orion ships, so for the moment he resigned himself to steering clear of the combat but keeping an eye on things at his own station. However it would have to be secondary, more pressing flight control matters were upon him.
"Approaching orbital transition point skipper, do we have coordinates for a geostationary orbit or should I put the Calypso into a standard orbit until the situation can be approximated?"
"Standard orbit. I want to have a good look at the planet," Sam told him.
Jerry sighed, having been staring for no particular reason at the dedication plaque on the bridge from his position at Science I. He heard something about sensors and looked up at the captain, thinking for a moment. There were a huge number of vessels in the Turkana system, well, at least for what he was used to in a frontier system. Plenty of pirates and other mercenary vessels. But the Science station was trying to categorize, and failing miserably. "Captain, if I had to guess, I'd say what we're looking at is worse than what the Maquis 'fleet' used to be, from what I've been told. If there are three ships out there that have the same parts as when they came off the yard, that's about 2 more than I see. And to boot, I'm seeing target beacons getting blown from here to the next world - mostly they look like old Cardassian gear from during the Dominion War, but if my higher-level sensors are right, there are one or two Romulan ones out there cloaked."
"Noted, thank you," Sam replied to Jerry.
Leroy looked to the loading bay where his men sat, and shook his head. "I doubt we'll have any fun with this one boys and girls, but here we go any how. I want First Platoon on damage control. In other words, if we take fire, then I want you to control it. Second platoon, you're going to be the Captains Escort planetside. Third Platoon, you're going to wait and see if we have to board any of the children outside playing. I don't like the idea of doing so, but it's not my party." Looking around, he noticed no one was moving. "Do I need to ask if there are any questions? Go, Now!" Shaking his head, he watched them leave. First Platoon had left as soon as they had been given the orders, but the other two evidently needed more in the way of a push. Looking at the panel off to his left, and about seven meters from him, he smiled. "About what you wanted Major?"
Damon heard the call and stepped closer to the panel. "I'd prefer it if Charlies First goes dirt side. They are to date our only blooded platoon and know how to handle themselves. This requires a delicate touch. Other than that, feel free to arrange Charlie and Delta's companies as you see fit. I want all of them to be prepared should we get the call for a full deployment on the surface as well."
"Aye Sir," Leroy said, shaking his head. Had he been asleep? He had forgotten that he now helped run two companies of men and women, not just one. -^-Charlie One, belay that last order. I want you combat ready in ten. Delta One will be accompanying you if you have to go dirt side. Charlie Two, you are on Damage Control for one half of the ship, Delta Three for the other. Charlie Three and Delta Two, you will be doing the unloading if we get unexpected Visitors. You will have a light combat load, except for the weaponry. I want both units ready in five.-^- Shaking his head again, he looked at his own gear. It wasn't going to be used, again. He wasn't completly blooded yet, and there for didn't have the means to help.
-^- Charlie and Delta One, I want the best to be ready to escort the Captain, the rest of you will be assualt. Only on her order will you go dirt side. Glass it if you have to, but I want each and every one coming back. Play dirty Marines, and come home.-^- Looking back at the control panel, he half smiled. "And where do you want me Major? DC or with the deboarding party?"
"I want you on the ground Leroy. Go with the first escort. We are only there for security, so let the fleeters do the talking. Charlie One can take care of themselves, but I want someone I can trust to take a look around. Try to figure out what the mood is like down there, but don't get yourself into trouble doing it. You will by my eyes and ears on the planet while i'm up here getting the scope of things."
Damon paused for a moment in thought. He leaned in closer to the panel and talked much quieter than before. "On another note, our diplomat is none too happy about our presence with her team. She feels that it could be an act of aggression on neutral grounds. So I want you to make sure NOTHING goes wrong to make her point. She may want to push our Marines out, so I want to to give her a little leeway while still being firm about our presence."
His voice raised again as he stood back from the panel. "Standard rules of engagement apply. Whatever happens, don't escalate a situation. If things go south be damn sure we weren't to blame. Understood?"
Nava watched as things progressed. She stood quietly saying nothing.
When they were given clearance to beam down, Sam turned to the others. "Okay. First team, keep it simple. Consider this a First Contact with The Union. Make sure it really is safe and return. Karma, you, Mangalia, O'Connor and Bowen, meet in transporter room 1 in 15 minutes. Tovan, see what you can find out about the planet."
She turned to Jerry. "I need someone to scan the planet."
She looked around. "Okay, folks, let's see what's going on."
