Ensign Simms was running the stellar long range scans for hours, he was getting coffee when a small alarm tone locked on an object. he enhanced the screen and saw a class M planet. He overlayed the track of the missing vessel and wasn't surprised to find it led into the planets orbit... "So there you are..."
Tony tapped his com badge.
~Captain Montgomery or Commander Sheridan please contact Cartography as soon as possible~
Several minutes later Sheridan was standing in the Lab, "What have you got?"
"Well Sir our mystery ship is inside this planet's orbit." Tony pointed and rotated the hologram for the Commander. "and it appears there may be several others with it, we're too far out to tell."
Sheridan understood the issue at a glance. "Good work Tony, keep the screen updates coming. We need all the information we can get. Are you receiving any signals from the vessels?"
"No Sir, This is a view only system at this range, perhaps as we get closer."
Samantha happened to be walking into Stellar Cartography to talk to Tony and overheard the Commander's comment. "Forgive me for interrupting, Commander Sheridan, but that type of scan would be done from the bridge, primarily, not stellar cartography." She smiled at Tony. "No offense."
Sam went to a computer console and began to pull up data on the planet. "It does make sense. The planet has a natural magnetic field that would shield the ship from scanners. It's a logical place to hide it."

The doors to the Tactical Holosuite opened and 120 hot, thirsty and very dirty Marines exited on the way to their respective squad bays. Gunnery Sergeant Hawkes watched as the last Marine exited the holosuite and smiled. He had successfully taken 1 Platoon into the breach and kept the other 3 platoons running around chasing phantoms. It took constant harassment from all angles before the 3 individual platoons started working as cohesive fighting forces and were towards the end of the exercise actually causing a bit of grief to Hawkes and 1 Platoon. And it only took him 3 of the expected 6 weeks. The Badlands of Dakota can be a brutal place.
It was as Hawkes was heading to his office that he ran into his CO, 2ndLT Raine. Standing at attention, Hawkes saluted, "Evening, Sir".
Damon returned the salute in almost a haphazard manner. He held a grin as the Gunny looked nearly flushed from the exercise the Company had just finished.
"I saw Randal's Third just a minute ago heading to the barracks. Looks like they got the hell beat out of them. I might have been mistaken, but, Randel held a bit of a grin when he passed me. How did they do?"
"It took 1 platoon and I about 13 seperate forays within 3 platoons AO in the space of 4 days for him to get the idea to use his Marines effectively." "Once he teamed up the right troops he had a fighting force instead of a cluster*%#^." Hawkes couldn't help but grin thinking of the strife they had managed to get into.
Damon nodded at the words, he was happy that the platoons were starting to galvanize. He had a feeling that it wouldn't be long before they were called upon to go to work.
"Good, I assume the fourth is moving along as well?"
"4 Platoon actually got their shit together first. McCarthy and I pestered 4 Platoon for 4 days before they worked out how to get us off their case."
"Excellent, I need options if things go to hell. Have the First platoon clean up and report to the hanger, full assault gear. I want the Second on deck as well. Both platoons are on alert status until told by me otherwise. They have fifteen minutes."
"Aye Aye, Sir" Hawkes saluted, then spoke into his tactical headset as he started off down the hallway to his office. 10 minutes later Gunnery Sergeant Hawkes stood in the hangar as the 2 Platoons started to arrive, Hawkes noticed that members of 3 & 4 Platoon had also made their way to the hangar, carrying gear for the members of 1 & 2 platoon, some still dressing as they formed up.
