Lumiya couldn't help herself but laugh lightly at the comment. She found it amusing and had no problem showing just that. There was a new found confident to her. "Indeed snakes would be more appropriate, I'm sure you would feel right at home than." She leaned forward with a grin on her face looking across the table at Teenan. "Now, let's get these discussions started like adults."
[NEW]
The insinuation that he was acting like a child had little effect on him. "Childish or not, my comment stands. I will not share a government with you and nor will my people. Perhaps one of your successors; but certainly not you."
"If that is how you honestly feel maybe both of us should step aside and not make this decision but allow the voices of our people to be heard by everyone, let them decide what they truly want." Lumiya leaned back in her seat once more crossing her legs. "I assume that should be alright with you since you seem to be so sure that you know what your people want."
With little bluster or any assistants in sight, Xon finally made his way into the chamber. He had heard most of the proceedings but in the name of civility he waited until there was a break in the back and forth to make his entrance.
Taking a seat that was an equal distance from the other two leaders as it was from the starfleet personnel, Xon folded his now-removed green jacket and placed it over the back of the chair and smoothed out some of the wrinkles of his simple but well-made slate gray tunic. "I apologize for my tardiness, a high-pressure gas vent developed a rupture in one of our industrial districts which warranted my personal attention."
Teenan briefly regarded Xon before looking back to Lumiya
"I am a military man without any political ambition. I lead my people because they need someone strong to forge them ahead. If the time comes where I am no longer needed to ensure my people's safety, I will happily step aside and let someone better suited to the job take over."
"The question right now isn't who will lead, but will you work for a unified Turkana?" Sam asked the three. "Are we here to forge an alliance where peace is restored to the planet, or do you simply want to snipe at each other?"
Lumiya took a deep breath taking her attention away from Teenan and looked over in the direction of Commander York. She knew that she was there to talk peace and she also knew that in order for that to happen both parties would have to put aside the years of hatred and start to work together. "The Alliance is very interested in talking peace. It has been too far since the people of this world have known what it is to have peace."
"I wouldn't be here if I wasn't at least interested in the prospect." The Grand Marshal frowned. He looked to the Commander "For future reference, if I want your opinion I'll ask for it."
Sam smiled at the Grand Marshal. "I was invited here. Therefore, you'll get my opinion. I won't force it on you, but you'll hear it nonetheless."
"Funny, I don't remember inviting anyone from the Federation." He spat the last words out.
Sam gave him a friendly smile, she had to admit, she was enjoying this. "I didn't say you were the one who proffered the invitation." Then she grew serious. "We're here to help. If the Federation had wanted to force peace there would have been a squad of Marines on every corner. We don't. We want to give you the support you need to do it yourself."
Xon took a slow deep breath in and out before speaking. Clearly he had either practiced what he was about to say and needed a moment due to earlier events, or it was a speech that he had said many times before. "If it has not been made clear already, allow me to reiterate that in accordance with the approval of the governing body of The Union it was I that invited the Federation to Turkana IV. Were it not for their presence these meetings wouldn't have even been considered in the first place, or at least as no more than a prerequisite for an ambush upon one's perceived opponents."
The Grand Marshal got a look out of the corner of Xon's eye with that one. His reputation always preceded him. Before continuing he steepled his fingers and darkly looked at all present. Things were obviously weighing heavily on his mind regarding these conferences.
"However I am remiss to declare these conferences as anything other than a break in hostilities at the moment. The only difference between these conferences and ones that have preceded them are that no Coalition special forces or Alliance assassins have made their presence felt, at least not yet.
