Mission:
Peace, or Something Like It
Location: Lounge
On
Nava sat in her office and looked at the roster, there were many that she had still not met. Picking two at random, she sent messages to Marek and Erin "I'm trying to get to know each of the crew and would love to have a drink with you in the lounge. Please let me know when would be an acceptable time."
Erin smiled and hit reply.
''I'd love to. I'm free from 7pm.''
It was always good to get the know the crew, seeing as it was part of her job as well. She thought, sitting back.
Marek was at his duty station in Engineering when he got a message. After reading it he checked his roster and smiled for he was free by 1800 and quickly composed a reply. "Hi, I'm free at 6pm this evening." He didn't know that Nava had sent a message to Erin as well.
Nava received both messages "Let's meet at 1830 in the lounge. I'll be the one at the piano." She replied and went back to reading the latest information on the Romulan Neutral Zone.
1815 hours:
Nava arrived at 1815 and was sitting at the piano in the corner playing a jazzy tune that she had learned at the Academy, there were a few people in the lounge when she arrived, so she wasn't too embarrassed by the missed notes that occasionally happened.
Marek walked in about 1828 in a tight black t-shirt with his Dragon tattoo, which features four additional arms, two on each side, that is on his right bicep showing. He sported Navy Blue jeans that comfortably hugged his figure.
Approaching the piano Marek found the Ferengi diplomant. "Ma'am, I'm Ensign Marek Lovok. That's nice music." He commented.
Erin walked in a few minutes later in jeans and the sleeveless version, v-neck of a typical Kazon wrap vest.
Noticing the Ferengi and Marek, she made her way over. ''Hi Marek.'' She greeted cheerfully before turning to Nava. ''Beautiful music.''
"Hello Erin," Marek smiled at the Kazon as she approached.
Nava smiled "Thank you. It's a hobby I picked up at the Academy." She said "I'm glad we could all get together. I haven't had a chance to really meet either of you." She said "Shall we get something to drink?" Nava asked as she stood up from the piano.
Erin nodded. ''Likewise, seeing as I hear that we're going to be working together in the next mission, this is probably a good idea.''
She made her way to the bar and ordered. ''Bailleys on the rocks, please.'' Before standing back and waiting for the others to get theirs.
Nava thought for a moment "Rum and coke, light on the rum please." Nava looked at Erin "So I've heard. What's your take on this situation?" She asked, wanting the Counselor's input. She could deal with the negotiations but she wanted insight into the psyche of the people she was dealing with.
Erin raised her eyebrows. ''There's so many different angles, its hard to know where to start.''
''The tension on the planet is going to be suffocating. If we're not careful, the peace we're trying to impose could start up a new civil war- between the union and the two battling parties.''
''But to be perfectly honest, any side that has 'rape squads' are going to be a problem. Its an indicators that they are'nt fighting for a reason any more, they're doing it for enjoyment or to cause suffering. If they have no reason, they'll be the hardest to persuade in any direction because there's nothing in it for them.''
She took a sip of her drink and shrugged with a smile. ''But thats hardly the content of inane chatter. We can talk policies later.''
Marek ordered a Chocolate milkshake and once he got it listened to the women talk. He didn't really know about the Calypso's mission and so remained quiet as he had nothing to contribute. Although he decided to ask Nava what she thought would be a good approach to the mission. "How about you Lieutenant Nava; what's your take on the mission? How do you think the Senior staff should go about it?"
Nava sighed "My take on it is that this could be a huge mess. I'm concerned about the show of force, my philosophy is that the senior staff need to listen to all of the sides. But at the same time, I'm concerned that this is a situation that we're not prepared for, my gut tells me that there is a lot more going on here than meets the eye and I'm prepared for anything including a hostile situation." She said as she ordered a banana split and a glass of milk.
"Being prepared is wise ma'am," Marek said. The Romulan looked at the Banana Split and could smell it. "Now I want one of those as well, thanks." He sipped at his milkshake trying to distract himself from the Ferengi's dessert.
Nava smiled "I have to endulge my sweet tooth." She said "And there could be worse ways to do it." She said as she took a bite of the confection.
Erin looked curiously at the dessert. ''I never understood mixing fruit and sweet food, but its very popular in this quadrant, it seems.'' She commented with a curious smile.
''Especially with humans. They seem to love their desserts.'' She added with a chuckle. It was'nt often that she got to have a conversation with a group that didnt include humans.
Nava laughed "They do have some interesting choices in food." She said "Although I have to admit that the Ferengi have some very odd tastes. What is your favorite food from home?" She asked both Erin and Marek whom she had just tempted to order his own banana split.
Erin thought. ''ah'fraa'k, definatly.'' She decided. ''Its the delta quadrant equivilant of a parairie dog mixed with a sabertooth tiger. Spit-roasted with honey... it was amazing.'' She turned to Marek to hear his input.
Nava thought for a moment "That might be interesting to try." She said "I've never heard of prairie dog." She turned to Marek "What's your favorite?"
"I may have to have a taste of that ah'fraa'k one day," Marek said before he got thinking about his culinary desires. It wasn't easy for he enjoyed many foods and beverages. "I'd have to go with the Human's series of pastas and pizzas. Since living on Earth acquiring Romulan food has been difficult." The Romulan told his new friends.
Erin nodded. ''I've had pizza, and I definatly see the appeal.'' She agreed with a grin before turning to Nava. ''Banana split aside, how about you?''
Nava grinned "I personally love a good blackened chicken alfredo." She said "I was in New Orleans for a diplomatic meeting and it was served during one of the dinners. It was amazing, I've found a way to make it but haven't had a chance." She said as she took another bite of the banana split "Although I also have to admit that I have developed a taste for Gak." She shook her head "It's odd."
"What's Gak?" Marek asked.
''Yeah, I've never heard of it.'' Erin added curiously.
"Is it Klingon?" Marek leaned forward a bit.
"It's Klingon. It looks alot like worms." She said "I know disgusting sounding but actually very tasty." She said taking another bite of the banana split "I've also found that I like cheese burgers. They were odd at first, but they are quite tasty. Especially if you add bacon and a bit of barbque sauce."
"Oh you mean Gagh," Marek said and shivered hard in utter dislike for the worms delicacy. "I'd rather not eat live food." The Romulan said.
Erin shrugged. ''I dunno, theres something to be said for it, especially after a hunt.''
Marek raised an eyebrow. "Hunt worms? I don't see the Klingons doing that." He suddenly got a mental sequence and laughed, once he settled he added, "Sorry got a mental picture of a Klingon hunting worms."
Erin had to chuckle. ''No, eating live meat after a hunt. Not worms. But the Klingon image is pretty funny.''
"Oh," Marek replied understanding. "I'm glad we got that sorted."
Nava smiled "Hmm, How about once a month, we meet and have dinner and try a new meal from different regions." She suggested thoughtfully taking another bite of her dessert "It was something my mother did when I was a child, she would learn different receipes and we would try them. If we liked them, they made a repeat appearance, if not, they were tossed."
Marek smiled. "I'd love to." He looked to Erin.
Erin nodded. ''Its a great idea. I think we should start off with our own regions first- so each of us gets to show off our faveorite dish from our homeworld?''
"It's settled then." Marek said then went completely frozen for a few moments. "Umm I don't know any Romulan dishes considering my family migrated to the Federation. Although," he smiled. "I can share human dishes with you both."
"Sounds good." Nava said as she finished up her banana split "Once a month, we meet and have dinner trying new dishes." She smiled at her two new friends "I need to go finish up some things before we get to the planet." She said "It was good to meet both of you."
Marek smiled. "And you too," he nodded to both Nava and Erin. "I better get back to Engineering for my shift starts in 5 minutes."
Erin finished off her drink and pulled out her PADD. ''Im off a break as well, but seeing as I've no appointments I can do my work here.'' She smiled,. waving the other two off.
'See you two later.'
