"I'll be on the next transport down," Leroy said as he looked back. "Half of the Marines go down now, the other half with me. We'll see you down there Sir."

[NEW]

Karma waited for everyone to get into position then said, "Energize." He felt the familiar sensations as the transporter beam gripped him and tore his molecules apart. A moment later he rematerialized on the surface and he began looking around even before the blue light show faded completely.

Doctor Hart moved away from the transporter set up area to allow the others to materalize. He looked around the surroundings, finding out that they were inside a large building, more like a cathedral with pillars everywhere. They seemed ancient with some damage. Also, he noticed that the building was vacant.

"Where is everyone?" Karma asked, looking around the area as he pulled out his tricorder to scan for lifesigns.

Leroy smiled as he watched everyone leave then looked behind him. "Lets get moving men, we've got people to keep alive." Various sounds escaped his Marines as they boarded the platform. "Energise," he said calmly, a phaser rifle strapped to his back. It wasn't that he didn't trust the planet he was going down to, it was that he didn't trust the people of the planet he was going down to. Materialising seconds later a meter or so shy of the first group, he kept his hand away from the weapon. "Everyone accounted for?" he asked the mission lead. Just because he wasn't in charge didn't mean that he wasn't going to take a strong role if anything went down.

Jason pulled his tricorder out from his holster and opened it to take scans of the area. "Looks like there are lifesigns outside this building. The transporter tech put us in a safe area to be in...can't complain about that." He decided to stay behind the marines.

Jerry also had his tricorder out and scanning, looking around. "Well, I'm picking up the same lifesigns. Exactly what we expected to find. Humans, affected by the environment here on Turkana IV. High muscle density, above-average pollutants, you name it."

Doctor Hart shakes his head, "You're right. Everybody has to go through sickbay to get treated for this chemical that gets in our system and it is hard for the body to expel it. We have medication for it..." He continues to inspect his instrument of other findings.

Karma listened to them then nodded. "Let's proceed. Keep your eyes open for anything unusual," he added as he moved to the door.

Leroy walked forward and stayed about six inches behind Karma, waiting like a dog to attack. He didn't feel that way of course, but then again, it's how Marines were looked at. "What are we expecting to find here? I wasn't exactly in on the briefing, just told my CO had something to do, and that I was down here with you."

Jason Hart walked two feet behind the Marine leader, listening to him. His boss never told him exactly what the away mission is for, but he figured that they need him just in case they run into problems. He kept the tricorder opened, glancing a few times at it, expecting someting might show up.

Jerry took up the position right in front of the rear, so that his tricorder and Hart's, which were differently-calibrated so that he had a wider range for pickup, both in terms of the definition of life, as well as simply a matter of range - unless Hart was using a non-standard config for Medical. He kept up the sweep, watching it.

Karma looked at Leroy and said, "We're treating this as a first contact situation. We'll be meeting the leaders and discussing any concerns they have that we may be able to help them with."

They all went outside of the building to discover a crowd of people. Jason squinted as the planet's sun is twice as bright than Earth's sun. He pulled out a pair of sunglasses and put them on. "Looks more like a trader's market here," he said, noticing people selling stuff in shabby huts. His tricorder beeped a few times. "I'm picking up hidden illnesses and injuries...nothing major."

Just then a dozen men in uniform stepped from the shadows, weapons clearly visible on their sides. One man stepped forward. "By your dress I assume you are from the starship?"

Jerry looked at them, his mind vaguely reaching out. In his mind, his thoughts were a short series of beratings on how stupid and unobservant he was. He should have picked them up along with his tricorder. But there was so much anger here. So much hate and fear. This was not a pleasant world, and the people on it were unpleasant. The XO was ranking officer here and he just kind of looked around, waiting for the lead from him. The man seemed confident, despite the fact that they'd been ambushed, with a Science Officer and an empath with them. How could he have been so stupid as to get everyone in a situation where they'd be hurt. So for the moment, he decided it'd be smarter to keep his mouth shut; any empaths in the area would feel great shame emanating from him.

Jason swallowed hard when he was taken by surprised of the weapon drawn on them by men in uniform. He moved closer to the marines, hoping for protection. He stayed quiet, waiting for XO to say something diplomatic to ease their emotions.
