Mission: Peace, or Something Like It

Ensign Daniels walked through the corridor towards Ops Central HQ. He had with him 19 PADDs, each overflowing with paperwork requesting various Security-related provisions, and the like.

The lift at the end of the corridor stopped and the doors opened. Morgan stepped out with a PADD in her hand, reading the information that was on it and not really paying attention to where she was going. She has walked down this corridor a few times that she didn't really need to look where she was going. She kept reading and not paying attention until she ran into something or someone. It wasn't as hard as a wall and she kind of bounced off it and landed on her behind, dropping the PADD to the ground.

Ensign Daniels, completely unable to see, under the mountain of PADDs, fell to the ground, and landed on his face. "Bloofey Hell." He muttered, with a mouth full of carpet. "That stuff tastes horrible."

Morgan quickly sat up still trying to figure out what had happened. As she looked around her assumption was correct. She had managed to run into someone. "I'm so sorry..." Morgan said as she got into a crawling position moving over to the man and started to grab the PADDs off him. "I wasn't paying attention to where I was going..."

"The Carpet. It is chewy." Daniels muttered, as he recollected his PADDs. He stopped, realizing he had collected one too many. He looked up at Morgan. "Oh! Hello." He said, shaking his head. "I think one of these belongs to you."

Morgan was glad to see that the man was alright. She really needed to pay a lot better attention to where she was going. She smiled at him. "Yes, I think you are right. But if you want you can keep it...it's only reports that I have been neglecting." She winked at him.

"Well, I am actually bringing all of these for someone in your department to deal with." Daniels said with a nod. "Requisition forms, and what have you."

Morgan looked at him with a disappointment in her eyes. "Why do you have to be so cruel...?"

"I said someone in the department. If you like, I can bring them in, after your shift is done, and abandon someone else to them." Daniels said. He was, after all, a gentleman.

"No, that's fine. They would only eventually end up on my desk anyway." She said as she looked at the stack again and let out a sigh. "Here, let me at least help you with those..."

Daniels smiled. "I'm fine, actually." He said with a nod. "I'm just not accustomed to people running into me in the halls." Especially not such pretty ones. He added, in thought, and was suddenly glad that Myrna was not present.

"Well if that's how you want it than okay." She smiled at him. "But at least I can show you to the right place you can drop those off." She motioned for the two of them to head down the corridor. "So, you never told me...what department are you from? Judging by your uniform you are either engineering or security." She looked at him. "And if I had to put my money on it I would say security."

"You'd be up some money, then." Daniels said with a nod.

"Shame I'm not a gambling type." She said with a smile and a wink as they stepped in front of a door. She pressed a couple of buttons in a sequence and the door opened. "After you sir."

"Ladies first, madame." Daniels said.

Morgan smiled to herself and headed inside. "Just put them there on the main desk." She motioned towards a desk that was located in the middle of the main room. Around the desk were stools for seating. It was used to hold operations meetings.

Daniels dumped them as instructed. "Thank you for your tour." He said with a laugh. "What do you guys do for fun around here?"

Morgan had leaned on a console that was against the wall and looked at him. "We work." She smiled at him.

"Mmf. So it is just as boring elsewhere on the ship." Daniels said with a nod.

Morgan shrugged her shoulders. "I honestly wouldn't know, I have been so busy trying to get everything in order that I haven't had much time for anything else but work."

"Paperwork. Repetitive, boring, paperwork." Daniels said. "It'll kill me yet. Especially with the Chief making weekly trips to the brig for insubordination."

"Yes, lots of paper work, but someone has to do it. It just happens to be that I am the one that gets stuck with a lot of it. I guess that's what happens when you want to move up in position and rank." She looked at him puzzled. "Your Chief ends up in the brig?"

"It's a running joke that he doesn't reside in his quarters." Daniels said with a laugh. "He doesn't get along very well with... uhm... well... pretty much anyone but Security, and Medical staff. Ops and Science maybe too. I think he's dating someone in science, but he doesn't really know anyone that well."

Morgan laughed. "You know, that's kind of ironic. He is in charge of security, yet he seems to cause the most trouble aboard the vessel." She pushed herself off the console and walked closer to the table where Daniels was. "I think I might have to meet this man."

Daniels smiled. "He's an interesting man. I wouldn't hesitate to put my life in his hands, though I think I'm one of very few people who he would trust with his. And that's only because I've called him an idiot the least." He looked down at his shoes. "Even the new master-at-arms seems to think he's an idiot. And she nearly caused a Diplomatic disturbance."

"Well he can't be that big of an idiot if he has managed to become a security chief aboard an impressive ship as this done." Morgan said as she pulled out a stool and sat down in one.

"Well, that's true. Everyone is just calling him an idiot because he got rather irate with the Engineering department, and was a little flippant with expressing it." Daniels said.

"And what did they do to make him so irritated?" Morgan wondered.

"They did a security-critical repair, and took their time filing the paperwork about it. He wasn't sure if it was done yet or not, and it was more or less a misunderstanding." Daniels noted.

Morgan nodded. "I see, well he really doesn't sound like a chief material from everything I've heard about him."

Daniels shrugged. "You don't have to work under him, and you aren't the Captain. It's not your concern." He said, slightly defensively. "The Captain has left him as Department Chief. That has to say something."

"That's true; I don't have to work under him. I guess to each their own." She got up from her seat and smiled at the man. "Well, I don't know about you but I have to get back to work. Thank you for bringing those down."

Daniels sighed. "I suppose so. Paperwork, an some security checks for restricted personnel areas." He said. "Thank you for the lovely company." He added, as he headed for the door.
