[USS Calypso - Counselors Office]

It was the last place to visit. He was going to get his mental state checked out with the ships counselor. This had always been one of his least favorite things to do. But he had a feeling that most of the crew felt that way. He walked up to the door and chimed it waiting permission to enter. There was a hope that this would go by quickly and he can go to his quarters and settle in.

Erin was just having her pre-lunch coffee when the door chimed.
''Come in.''
She looked up- mid sip andput on her best councellers smile.
''Hello, I'm counceller Tal. I dont beleive we've met.''

"I don't believe so either." Delon said as he stepped into the office. He was slightly surprised to find a Kazon serving aboard a Starfleet vessel but he didn't let it show. "I'm Lieutenant Delon Tovan. Just came aboard."

''I know.'' Erin replied with a slightly amused expression. ''Half human, half romulan. Its on your file.'' She tapped the console in front of her.
''Not what I expected, seeing as Romulans are renknowned for being xenophobic, but here we are.''
She smiled.
''So what can I do for you, Leiutenant?''

The crew sure was on top of everything it seemed. It was rather 'neat'. He had been concerned about what type of crew this vessel was going to have but up to this point there has been nothing but pleasant surprises. "They don't, but my case is a bit more complicated than most." Delon stated as he stepped in deeper into the office. "I have just come aboard and I'm here for my check up."

The Kazon pulled up his file on the console and read it quickly before speaking.
''Okay, this is a very simple procedure. I am going to ask you a few questions and by your answers and your file, I will be able to determine if you are fit to work aboard the Calypso.''
She smiled encouragingly. It wasn't necessary for him to know that a vital part of the evaluation was his body language and the means in which he answered. The counceller found that when people knew that, it hindered their answers.
''It goes without saying that I need you to be absolutely truthful. You'll find no judgment in this office.''

''So firstly, your file says you check out- no physcosis, extreme mental illnesses or any major damaging factors. So a simple question- you said that your case is most complicated than most. Why is that?''

"Understood." Delon responded as he managed to find his way into a seat that was near by her desk. Being honest was something that he was fully capable of doing. The truth was that he could be too honest at times. This would cause conflict with those that didn't fully appreciate his honesty. He took a deep breath as he looked across the desk at the Kazon counselor. The story of his parents wasn't something he often shared but he had made his bed in this particular situation and now he had to sleep in it.

"My father was a human from Earth. He served in Starfleet Intelligence and during a mission to meet his contact he ended up being captured by the Romulans. The contact was my mother. The tortured him and wanted information about the Federation; the only reason that he was kept alive was because of my mothers influence. Eventually the two of them grew closer and she ended up pregnant. My father was send to prison. After my birth my mother came up with a plan to rescue my father and run to Federation. It was successful but only to a certain degree. She was captured while my father and I escaped."

Delon paused for a moment looking at the counselor then continued. "So as you can see my birth was something that came up about due to circumstance that involved my father and my mother. I would say that my birth is something unique."

Erin paused to take a few notes.
''I'd say so.''
She looked up at the half-Romulan for a few seconds.
''And does that experience leave you harbouring.. bitter or negtive feelings towards either the romulan empire or the race itself?''

"I might not like what has happened to both of my parents but I also can not hate the whole race for an action of a few. It's not a logical course of action. I have no bitter nor negative feelings towards the race. I am half Romulan after all." Delon had been asked this question on several different occasions. It mostly came in such settings as this one. He truthfully answered the question each time and it was the same answer each time.

Erin studied him carefully as he answered and nodded, apparently satisfied.
Shoulders relaxed, lack of any subtle or usual nervous behaviour.. he was telling the truth.
''Very well. Your medical form says you have no past mental diseases... strange behavioural patterns that kind of thing. Is there anything you want to say against or for that statement? From your own experience, are you positive that you are in a healthy mind frame? Any doubts at all, I need to hear them.''

Delon had continued to sit in front of the counselor in a calm and collected state. He might not have like this whole process but he understood the reason behind it and had always done his best to make it as easy as possible on himself and the people sitting behind the desk asking questions. "No, I have no doubts at all."

Erin studied him once again before nodding.
'' Do you feel that you are able to work with a team in tight situations without wearing down?''

Delon thought for a moment. The question was slightly tricky to answer, so he wondered if she was testing him. "Without wearing down completely, no. That is an impossible task. A person no matter what species will wear down; it's just the level to which they wear down is the difference. Certain individuals perform well under pressure meanwhile others don't. I have in the past performed well in tight situations and I believe I can do it in the present and future."

The ghost of a smile twitched Erin's lips.
''Good answer, Leiutenant.'' She replied. ''Most people give me the answer they think I want to hear, rather than the simple truth.''

''Now without prying too much, I need to know: are there any painful memories or past events either in or possibly hindering future preformance in starfleet?''

"Telling the truth isn't one of my problems counselor, it's just that sometimes people don't enjoy what they hear." He added onto his statement before shaking his head. "None that I am currently aware of."

''Mm, your record states as much, but sometimes hearing it fro the person in question gives a lot of insight into their character.'' Erin said with a quick glance upward as she scrawled some notes on the PADD.
''Your body language, answers and records are all giving good indicators so far, however you must know that your analysis does not just end once you leave the office. You first few weeks in the job are very vital to profile builting as well.''

Once finished writing, she looked up with a smile.
''Now could you tell me what your ambitions are in starfleet?''

"I am fully aware of the procedure counselor. I know that you will be keeping an eye on me like a hawk to ensure that I am not just saying things you want to her and that I actually am fit for duty." Delon smirked slightly then looked away. "As far as my career goes counselor I wish to one day have my own vessel."

Erin raised her eyebrows. ''Nothing unusual there. No signs of destructive ambition. Well I think I can say that for now, you're mentally and emotionally capable of your job.''
She stood up and offered him her hand in a traditional handshake.
''Welcome aboard, Leiutenant Tovan.''

Delon nodded. "Thank you. I look forward to serving with you and everyone else aboard the vessel." Delon was pleased that this was finally over. It wasn't difficult it just included him talking about his feelings and that was something he didn't often do nor did he want to do.

''Thank you for being so helpful with the questions. Some people are'nt so affable. Well, thats all for now. I'll let you know how your evaluation is going.''

"Thank you once again." Tovan nodded to her as he made his way over to the door. As the doors opened he paused and turned around. "Maybe next time, we can have a discussion outside your office." He turned his head around and stepped outside. The doors closing behind him.

Erin nodded and waved him out with a smile before returning to her work.
