Nava walked to Lt Sinclair's office. She wanted to meet with the Intel officer and introduce herself and possibly see what information she could learn and share. Stopping outside the door she rang the chime.
Karma looked up from a report he'd been reading and said, "Enter."
Nava walked in "Lt Sinclair, Ensign Nava, chief diplomat. I wanted to introduce myself and see if there was a way that we could help each other with information." She said as she stepped into the office.
Karma reached up and closed the display on his desk. "Have a seat, Ensign," he said to her. "May I offer you something to drink?"
Nava thought for a moment " A glass of iced tea would be appreciated. How long have you been aboard the Calypso?" She asked
"I've been here for a few months," he said as he replicated a glass of tea for her. He set the glass in front of her then sat in his chair again. "How about you?" he asked her.
Nava smiled "A couple weeks. Just before our last mission." She said "I was at Star Fleet Diplomatic Headquarters after I graduated from the academy." She said "I wanted to get my space feet. So I requested a transfer and was assigned to the Calypso."
"How are you adjusting to life on the Calypso?" he asked her.
Nava smiled "It has been an interesting change. I'm used to being able to go to the markets when I feel like and wander as I please. So being aboard the ship and in a confined space has been ackward at times. But I am adjusting and learning about the crew and some of our previous missions." She said as she took a drink of her tea.
"I am wondering how much I will learn out here as a diplomatic officer. It will be interesting to see how my skills can be used." Nava said as she leaned back in the chair "What about you, how have you adjusted?" She asked "What helped make the transition easier?"
"I learned long ago to travel light and make the most of the current situation," Karma replied.
Nava nodded "I'm learning this, probably the hard way." She said as she thought for a moment "I think the hardest thing I had to leave was the piano." She took another drink "I'd like to learn more from my fellow officers so that I can be more help to the crew going into negotiations. "
"What would you like to learn?" Karma asked her.
Nava thought for a moment "What exactly is your function on the ship? How would my skills be of use to you should you need them?" She asked.
"As Chief Intelligence Officer it's my job to make sure the command team has all the information they need in any given situation," Karma said to her. "Our departments could work closely together with an exchange of information."
Nava nodded "Any information I come into I'll let you know." She said as she took another drink of her tea "I guess, this being my first ship based assignment I'm still getting my space feet and figuring out my role on the ship." She said as she thought about it "Ferengi are into things for profit, and while I like profit, I don't think it always has to be monetary." Nava smiled "So this a learning assignment for me. I hope that I am able to fulfill my duties."
"There are plenty of people that would be willing to help you," Karma said to her.
Nava smiled "Yes there are. It will be fine." She finished her tea "Thank you for meeting with me Lt. I look forward to working with you." She said as she took the glass to the recycler. "While we're on shore leave I'll be speaking with the diplomatic department on Typhoon and gathering what information I can. If I learn of anything interesting, I'll let you know."
"I'm looking forward to it," Karma said with a smile.
