"It helped pass the time in the field," she replied with a self-deprecating smile.

[NEW]

Leroy clapped with the rest of the crew, keeping his thoughts to himself. She did sing beautifully, and he wasn't in the least surprised. Smiling, he looked around, then signaled for the tender to come to him. As he did, he ordered a round of drinks for himself, then waited as he began making sure his bass guitar was tuned correctly. It didn't sound half bad after he had unplugged it, but one of the notes was just a bit off. Loosening the cord he smiled as it came to life correctly, and the drinks were there. It didn't take long for the shots to begin to vanish, but he knew he'd feel better and more in control with the substances running through him.

Ronnie was pleasantly surprised at the talent among the crew. Not only could several crew members play, the Commander could sing. She herself had played the drums for a number of years -- primarily a trap set, but she could still appreciate good music.

After several more numbers, Sam walked over to Nava and Erin. "Care to try Paper Moon?"

Erin nodded enthusiatically, looking at Nava. ''Im in, how about you?''

Sam walked up to Kaj "Do you think you guys can play Paper Moon?"

Kaj's' face screwed up with memory recall, attempting to remember the particular song unsuccessfuly, but only for a moment. One could see the particular neurons fire and the memory of that song resurface.

"Sure do skipper, we can do that."

Sam smiled her thanks. "Excellent."

The three ladies walked up to the mic and stood in a half-circle around it. The band played an introduction and the there began to harmonize.
It's only a paper moon
Hanging over a cardboard sea.
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me.

The song ended and the three women bowed. Sam smiled her thanks to Kaj and the band.

"Kaj waved and pointed at the three women.
"One more time for these three lovely ladies!

Sam again returned to her seat beside Damon. 'Now I'm all yours," she said.

Damon smiled as Samantha spoke. "I'm not sure what to do with you now. I've never had a celebrity girlfriend before."

"And you don't have one now," Sam assured him. "You still have me." She chuckled as she took a sip of her drink. Her part in the night's festivities was over and, fun as it was, she was glad it was over. "Now you can show me one of your talents."

Damon thought he might go up and sing a song himself, but he noted how the party was starting to wind down and didn't wan't to push it too late. Instead he moved closer to her and whispered into her ear "Perhaps I will later."

Kaj grabbed Erin before she could go offstage and handed her his guitar, winking at her as he did.
"Now if that weren't enough, the lovely Erin Tal has one more song for everybody. It's her first time up here by herself so lets give her a little incentive! And another round for the band!"

Leroy dropped another shot and kept his face cool. He didn't need the applause, but others liked it. Gripping the bass one last time, he readied for the last song. Or what he hoped was the last song.

Erin winked back, taking the guitar. ''At least most of the nerves are gone now.'' She croaked to him with a nervous grin, slinging the guitar strap over her shoulder and strummed the first few chords of 'Something to talk about' by Bonnie Raitt.

People are talkin, talking 'bout people
I hear them whisper, you won't believe it
They think we're lovers kept under covers
I just ignore it, but they keep saying
We laugh just a little too loud
We stand just a little too close
We stare just a little too long
Maybe they're seeing, something we don't, Darlin'

She closed her eyes, focussing on the lyrics and did'nt stir til she had finished, and opened her eyes smiled widely as the music faded, half terrified of what the crew thought.
''Hows that for a newbie singing the blues?'' She said under her breath to Kaj with a tiny smile.

Ted smiled. "That wasn't bad. Not too bad at all."

The crowd applauded until Kaj led the band into another song. And then another as the night wore on.

After a while, people began to trickle out in groups or in pairs to head to their quarters.
