Mission:
What Lies Beneath?
Location: Orion Conference Room
Timeline: Current

[OLD]
Randy walked in seemingly at the last moment, holding a coffee thermos in one hand, and a PADD in the other. He looked up as he sat, "Did I miss anything?"
[NEW]
When everyone had arrived, helped themselves to some food and found a seat at the large table, Sam began. "I'm glad you're all here. I've received some interesting news from Starfleet."
She took a breath, not sure how they'd take the news. "They received a full report on the ghezun infestation and on the current status of the Orion. It seems the damage is far too extensive for it to be repaired. The Orion is going back to drydock."
Wally paused for a moment looking at his shoes.
''If I'm honest commander, and I'm sorry to be this blunt. The logistics of overhauling and refitting the ship are mind blowing. We are better off mothballing the Orion.''
Looking around the table, Looking at everyone else as he spoke
"Figures," Leroy said as he looked up. "SO I'm going back to where I just came from. This isn't fair. I never did get a briefing on what happened you know."
Kaj shook his head.
"Not much, other than the firefly crashing, the giant sand sharks, or the gigantic dilithium crystals."
Samantha smiled reassuringly. "Not exactly mothballed. But it will take a major overhaul of all the systems. Starfleet estimates it'll take six to eight months to complete." She paused for that to sink in. "They decided it's too long for us to wait."
"Starfleet," she continued after a moment, "has decided to give us another ship. There's another Galaxy-class ship that just left Utopia Planitia. It was going to be commanded by Captain Urrutia, but the Captain and his crew had some problems on their last mission. They will be unable to take the new ship for four to six months. They will get the Orion. We get the Calypso."
Several questions jumped to the forefront of Kaj's brain when he heard that, but only one really had any tact. "So what exactly does the Calypso have that the Orion doesn't? I mean by design all Galaxies are pretty much modular in nature."
"True," Sam replied, nodding. "It is pretty much the same as the Orion. What it has in its favor is it's working. The other option I was given by Starfleet was to reassign the crew to other ships and send the Orion to drydock for the next six months. At that point it would get a new Captain and a new crew." She gave Kaj a direct look. "We only have the two options, Lieutenant. Stay together on a new ship, or we go our separate ways. Waiting for the Orion is not an option." Then one side of her mouth quirked up in a half smile. "There is a good chance Captain Montgomery will be finished with his training by then and be given command of the ship. It all depends on what happens with Captain Urrutia. All they would tell me is that his situation was delicate."
''Typical.'' Came Wally's response. ''They have no idea what is actually going to happen, they just throw a hair brain idea together and hope all works out.'' He paused. ''However, it would be nice to be able to have a working control console on the bridge.'' He joked.
Erin shrugged. "It's the logical decision, however cold and methodical it may be." She admitted, glad that there was no be no re-locations.
Ted shuffled in his seat for a moment before stating his piece. "I think it may be best that we get the Calypso. We've got a good crew and a good captain." He looked Sam in the eyes and his dark eyes smiled at her in a friendly fashion. "I say we take the Caly"
Damon thought on the situation for a moment before commenting. "So does this mean that your provisional command has been changed to regular status?" He already started smiling in anticipation of her response.
Leroy looked up. A new ship. He couldn't catch a break. "Hopefully the men will get some time off, they're starting to kill one another. I've had teams sweeping the rooms every fifteen minutes or so."
Sam smiled at Damon and nodded. It had, indeed, become permanent. But her smile quickly died at the 1st Lieutenant's words. She gave Damon a surprised look. ~Kill?~ she asked him telepathically, not wanting to show anyone but Damon her concern. She'd never had trouble with the Marines before.
She turned her attention back to the Marine XO. "There will be time for shore leave back on the starbase -- although we had a break just before this mission. You wouldn't know that because you just arrived, Lieutenant."
Damon also regarded him "Until then we will have the Marines running non stop drill's. They'll be too tired to fight with one another. After all, we can't have all our Marines return home in body bags." He said the former more for the benefit of Samantha so she understood it was just a curious choice of words.
Shrugging he looked over. "I didn't mean kill, as in drawing blood. But something's got them riled." Frowning, he looked down at the padd. "How much time was given before you got back to the ship?"
