Mission: Prelude: Blowing away the Cobwebs
Location: USS ORION
Timeline: Day 1 0900hrs

ON

A small crowd had gathered outside the airlock keeping the Orion tethered to the massive outer shell of Jupiter Station. Lieutenant-Commander Montgomery stood face to face with Captain Ryan, the Station's head of ship refit and repair. "I relieve you Sir" said Montgomery

"I stand relieved" replied the captain, and the pair shook hands to scattered applause. "Don't let me see you back here any time soon" added Ryan with a smile.

The Orion's new master headed off down the access port followed by those staff members who had already arrived.

Alex walked behind the captain, very excited about finally getting a look at the Orion. "I"m so excited!"

"You won't be when you see how much work is still left to do!" said Montgomery over his shoulder, "I'm so glad you're one of the first arrivals, at least you'll still have help from the station's staff - just don't be afraid to tell them what to do, I want the systems exactly the way you want them!"

"I want them perfect, Commander. And god help anyone who tells me that's imposible." She giggled, but she was only half joking.

Nartu was standing beside Alex, hulking the Chief Engineer in stature and apparent muscle density. He was looking at the refitted Galaxy class ship in awe and shear pleasure. He spoke to the Chief Engineer while still looking up at the massive interstellar vessel.

"What a beauty she is, Lieutenant. I'll enjoy using the tactical systems on this baby. You're gonna make sure when I need my torpedoes set at level 10, they'll not be one micro joule off, right?"

Alex looked at the corridors and smiled even brighter than she already was. It reminded her off the Enterprise D, which she had served on as Assistant Chief Engineer for only a few months before it was destroyed. "Huh?" She said in a quite voice, pulling herself away from her thoughts. "OH...of course. rest assured that Engineering will work to make it all right."

The Ensign was now looking at the attractive lady to his side.

"Yes, I'm sure."

He paused awkwardly for a moment, blushing a bit while thinking about something.

He finally mustered up the courage to voice what he was thinking:

"Has anyone told you how beautiful you look, Lieutenant?"

Alex looked at him with a surprise. She caught herself blushing. She didn't know what to say, so she just answered the question. "On many occasions, yes."

Nartu got even more nervous at this response.

'Geez, I'd rather take on a dozen armed Jem'Hadar then talk to her. But I feel a sensation around her that's I've never experienced before.'

Binjole looked away at the top of the corridor, feeling extremely nervous and many other feelings he had never experienced.

"Well, heh, I'll, um, see you later, Lieutenant."

She could tell that her response bothered him, so she gave him one of her perfect smiles. "Your Chief Tactical Officer, right? We should have a working familiarity with each other I think. I'll stop by your office later if that's ok with you?" She had to admit that the corridor wasn't a very good place for senior staff to talk about beauty. They could talk about duty in public though, and private was a whole different thing.

Nartu stopped. He turned around and started walking back to the Lieutenant. He decided in his mind to give this relationship another chance.

"Sure, that's sounds like f-I mean a good idea. How about, say, 1900 hours in my office?"

"Yeah." She said as she continued to follow the Captain.

Damon was only a few paces behind the two and heard the awkward exchange. He held a bemused smile on his face as he tried to look like he was interested with the Orion's structure rather than their conversation. ~Making new friends so already...~ He thought. Damon, unlike the other officers, made no attempt to speak to anyone on their trek.

Samantha trailed behind the others, walking slowly to take it all in. She did a slow turn. It was a beautiful ship. Sam was eager to get the science department organized and functioning so she could work the bugs out before they left -- or most of them, anyway. She planned on taking a quick tour and then heading straight for science.

The group were in the heart of the ship now, Montgomery who way in his element leading his troops aboard suddenly stopped dead and spun on his heels. "I think its time we had a look at our bridge wouldn't you say?"

"I agree." Alex said as she followed.

Sheridan and Max were hanging back, but John was eager to see the bridge...

Samantha just nodded.

The group crowded into a single turbolift, Montgomery quite happy to be sharing a confined space with so many people, he considered it team bonding. It occurred to him that on his first look at the Orion's bridge he'd had to crawl out of a Jeffries Tube in the dark, and this time he'd arrive like sardines in a tin. Still third time lucky. The doors opened to reveal the bridge in a much more finished state than on his last visit: consoles and chairs in place. It had a darker, more serious look about it than the original Galaxy design and a blue grey colour scheme, more clinical than the previous warm tones. "Welcome to your new home" he said looking at the reactions of his team.

Sheridan felt attached to the bridge right away and max was holding his hand very tightly.. John stood behind the Command chairs looking around the upper bridge. He knew the darker colors would make screens more brilliant and easy to see at all the stations... "Very nice Sir." He was standing by the Captain.

Samantha watched the others walk onto the bridge and spread out to their various stations. She didn't mind being in the back, it gave her time to stand in the entrance and take in the view. The bridge looked great. She liked the darker color scheme and the layout. There was something awe-inspiring to see a new bridge for the first time. After a minute or two, she made her way to the science station. She checked the console, then looked underneath to see the way it was set up underneath. As Sam was a computer specialist, she was always interested in how they were set up. If she didn't think the others would think she was strange, she would have crawled under the console to have a proper look. As it was, she contented herself with running her hands over the station.

Nartu stood at his station behind his XO.

"Geez, I'm loving this ship before I've even fired one megajoules worth of phasers. Captain, you've got a helluva ship here!"

"Hopefully we won't need to use them too often" replied Montgomery. "Now then I think we've done enough sight-seeing, you've got until noon to get your stuff on board and then I want each of you to report to your sections and direct the refit crews to finish them how you want them. Dismissed"

Sheridan and Max already had their bags packed and wouldn't have to go far to check their quarters as his Office were just off the bridge. He had made arrangements to load it up after the Tour. neither one had seen their new home yet...
