Mission:
Broken Mirror
Location: Briefing Room
[PREVIOUSLY]
Alex looked to Sam, then to Alora, before smiling at Remy. "You must be Lieutenant Batiste."
"I am hard to miss." Remy countered. "I am the smallest officer in the room."
"I don't care about your height, Mister Batiste. You wear the uniform so you, and everyone else, already has my respect. I've seen men and woman just about your height have as much, if not more, heart than most so there is no need for me to hold that against you. And, in answer to your question, we plan on revealing everything to your Captain. She decides how much to give you all and what will be relevant. I have no intention of holding anything back that may be considered dangerous or harmful to any of you. However, just like you Mister Batiste, any information that's not relevant to our mission has no place here."

Sam raised an eyebrow at that last comment. "Because much of this assignment involves classified information, it will be shared on a need to know basis. Please respect that there are valid reasons for this. Hopefully we can find out who is behind the marauding quickly. This may involve the Calypso accompanying the Prowler to the Terran Universe. If it does, we will follow Commander Knight's direction." The last thing Sam wanted was an incident in the Terran Empire that would exacerbate the problem.
Resisting rolling his eyes at Batiste's unnecessarily combative tone, Aenar took a sip of his coffee. Surprising that Starfleet offered positions in the fleet to officers from the Mirror Universe, he thought. 'Have you ever met your counterparts from this Universe?' the Bajoran asked curiously, 'any of you?' he shot a glance in York's direction.
Alex let out a big of a deep sigh. He was afraid of this kind of conversation sparking their curiosities and, this mission, being used for some to answer those questions. On the other hand, it was a conversation that remind him of his double Lex and how they lost him. It was a wound that was yet to heal for him. Lex was his counterpart from this universe and, while he wasn't someone you could easily trust, he changed from his old ways and would have been a model officer.
"Yes, actually. Lex was Alex' counterpart here. We were on the same ship for a while before he died. And I met my counterpart from the Terran Empire." Alora knew how Alex felt about losing Lex and the sacrifice his double made so that Alex could be here now and hoped that, by answering, she could help her husband.
"While I understand the curiosity," Joren interceded, "I doubt it's relevant to the mission. I'd like to suggest holding the inquiries for the mess hall." It wasn't that Joren wasn't curious, but he'd rather discuss these things with a stiff drink, not in a formal meeting setting.
Nodding, Aenar stifled a sigh of frustration. He would have precious few opportunities to probe alternate from the Mirror Universe as it was. The officer in him understood the need to concentrate on the matter at hand, but the scientist felt only annoyance that research for research's sake would be ignored.
Sam had not met her counterpart from the Terran universe, but she wasn't going to comment on it. "I don't think, under the circumstances, that we'll have much chance to interact with anyone from the Terran Universe. At least we're instructed to try and avoid it. We'll only be dealing with the pirates, and that may be minimal, depending on what we learn. At the same time, we should be prepared for any eventuality as we don't have much information at this time."
Alora nodded her agreement. "And, as Alex and his crew came from that universe, they already are familiar with it and so will handle any information we collectively find on Terran activities." She smiled at her husband and continued. "We will share anything we feel you should know."
Newmark had a point to ask.
"If I might?" He began. "If we are to go to that side of the universes I would ask to get more detailed scans of any Prowler members from that universe?" He started. "As we are going to be in that radiation background and the present crew will seem the oddities to interior sensors the more precise the data and scans I can get will allow for the Sensors to note when an Empire entity boards." He explained.
"They would likely be able to note an entry but actual locating will need be done by Tricorder and with detailed baselines so the Zambian background radiation signature that will be flooding the ship while we are in that universe can cloud readings."
Sam turned to Alex and Alora. "That is up to you."
"I see no problem with that as a precaution." Alex replied, looking over to John then to Alora, before nodding his head slightly.
'We're leaving an awful lot of things up to one team,' Aenar observed. He held up a placating hand, 'I feel the more data points we have the more effective we can be as a holistic team.'
"My team, Lieutenant, are here for two reasons." Alex replied calmly. "First is because the technology being used to traverse between this and the other Universe is similar to the one on the Prowler. Said technology is classified and the only one in Starfleet. So, the Admiral felt it necessary to involve our team because he feels there is a connection. Second, because said technology is classified, we've been told to distribute said information as needed. As any Intel Officer would be doing. You are not relying strictly on us. We are relying on you and, by extension, so is Starfleet Command. If this was a mission they felt we could handle on our own they would have said as much. However, it was decided, to involve the Calypso crew which we have no objections on."
"This does not mean we can't take scans and data while we're there to learn more about the current state of the Terran Empire," Sam added. "But it does mean that we're not after technology--especially how to traverse between the universes. That is strictly the Prowler's bailiwick."
Alex looked over to Alora, a bit confused by the idea of them wanting to know what was going on in their universe. He didn't see a need for it until it became a problem for them, while their current mission involved tracking down the ship and crew involved with the thefts. "Commodore, I understand wanting to be prepared, but we aren't even sure that the Empire is behind these thefts. If they are, I doubt one ship would be doing this alone. Until the Terran Empire becomes an issue, and I hope it doesn't, leaning its state should not be a priority. In fact, avoid them all together, should be our best move."
Listening with a genuine curiosity, the Marine Captain glanced toward Damion before speaking, "We might not be intending on coming across the Terrans," Rye spoke, not wanting to step on any toes but he felt his query needed asking, "But historically, they've had a habit of worming their way into places where they can cause the most chaos and that is probably going to be here this time out. If we do happen to encounter them, how are we going to deal with whatever trouble they cause?"
