Much like others with this form of dwarfism, his head seems out of proportion with his body, but he doesn't let this stop him. If anything it shows he has overcome more just to get where he is. | Personal History | Rembrandt Batiste was born on Betazed, while his father was on tour aboard the U.S.S Vermont. He was born with achondroplasia, a common cause of dwarfism. Although he was smaller than most people, be never let it bother him. He with a no nonsense attitude. Being told to not take anything from anyone about being different. With this dug into his head he learned very quickly not to let anything hold him back doing what he wanted. Because of this upbringing, he didn’t let anyone’s opinion of him or his way of doing things interfere with doing his duty, even during his years at the academy. Although there are some points where his Betazoid sense get in the way and he finds that some things bother him more then he lets on. During the Academy, he spent a lot of his time taking Operations and Engineering Courses, however his main area of focus was Psychology, mainly in the area of people and other life forms. When he wasn’t focusing on his studies, he was focusing on his music or his gadgets. Two of the most calming things to Remy was playing his music and making useful gadgets. His knack for inventing and focus on criminal psychology caught the interest of Starfleet Intelligence. Upon leaving the academy, Remy was recruited. His primary plan was to work in Research and Development (R & D) and focus on creating helpful tools and equipment to further improve Starfleet, but while repairing a type of lie detector machine during an interrogation he picked up on certain lies that suspect was telling and informed the interrogating officer. This put his foot in the door and showed his superior officer that he had more skills then just inventing. Slowly, he moved away from R & D and into interrogation. He started to do more field work and engulfed himself into showing others he wasn’t about to let his size get in the way of doing things normal sized officers were doing. In the years that he worked as a field agent, he found he had more of an advantage then most officers. He was often overlooked and could get into smaller areas than most. When it came to weapons, he concentrated on close combat and on being a marksman. He decided to focus on more ways to be useful, and because of this, he grew more distant from others. Not concerned about make friends and growing attached to other officers. It wasn’t until his encounter with Logan did he grow attached to anyone. A lone Caitian surviving on a derelict ship with no memory and a desire to help intrigued him. He did everything he could to keep him close, even offering him a position as his personal assistant. During the years, moving from assignment to assignment, then grew attached to each other. Find uses for each other and eventually trusting each other. |
