Personality & Traits
General Overview | Quiet and contemplative, growing up on the edges of Federation space - despite the relatively few numbers of years of his life he spent there - taught Danny a resourcefulness that has helped him often in life. It is very rare that he does anything without careful consideration, doing his best to ensure that whatever action he takes is the best course of action in the moment. Despite an initially cold exterior, there is in fact very little he isn't willing to do to help those he trusts, shipmates included and once one has broken through that exterior, he becomes almost a different person full of warmth and laughs. With all this said, Rye has a ruthlessness and viciousness to him although it is normally reserved for his foes and is something he had to learn over his years of service. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | ||
Ambitions | The truth is that Danny has given little thought to his future as being able to get into the field and do the work is something he very much enjoys and something he intends to do for as long as his body will allow. Once his ability does begin to fade, he would be quite happy to move on to train and teach those who wish to follow his career path. Watching his brother begin a family of his own has planted the seeds within Danny to want the same although it is not something he has addressed or really acknowledged. |

Hobbies & Interests | Danny likes to be outside whenever possible, be it mountains or beaches he is happiest with fresh air and sunshine upon his skin. Hiking, camping, mountaineering, cycling, canoeing, caving, kayaking, rafting, rock climbing, running, sailing, skiing, sky diving and surfing; anything that gets him out there makes him happy. An appreciator of the traditional earth combat sports, he enjoys boxing, muay thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu in order to keep himself fit and sharp. Since he was seven he has practiced playing the guitar and finds it quite therapeutic to help him relax. Whilst it wasn't quite something that came naturally to him, he has become quite good at it, developing a singing voice along the way which probably isn't quite up to the standard of his playing but he is not shy about showing it off anyway. A lover of most animals, he is particularly fond of Cadbury and Goose, his father's two labradors. |

Personal History | Daniel James Rye, second born son of Colonial defence officer Lewis and Federation education initiative teacher Olivia on the far flung Federation colony in the Benecia system. Both his parents had emigrated to the colony, Lewis when he was a teenager on his Father's promise to assist a good friend and his mother as part of a program to ensure education standards across Federation space. Their romance was unexpected and it moved quickly but before long the couple had married and had two children, first a boy they named Cameron and just under two years later, another they chose to name Daniel. Early life for the youngest Rye was good. Despite their home being a long way from the Federation home worlds, the quality of life was good and visits from Starfleet and other vessels were regular. Danny spent his early days running riot with his friends, exploring his surroundings and scouring every inch of their home in search of adventure. When Danny was just six years old and after a very brief illness, Olivia Rye passed away. The team of doctors that helped her fight the disease that proved fatal no doubt did all they could but with the colony's relatively limited medical facilities there was little they could really do. Like it would any, it devestated the Rye family. Suddenly their home didn't feel like it anymore. With two young boys he was now exclusively responsible for and the continued risks of living so relatively remotely clearer than ever, Lewis Rye began to make preparations to take his children to the real home world. Lewis had been concerned that the culture shock of moving from a remote albeit bustling outpost in the middle of nowhere to a crowded Federation founding world might have been too much for the still grieving family but in truth, the distraction was precisely what they had needed. With so many new things to see and do, his growing boys were gone for sometimes days at a time - something which simply would not have really been possible on Benecia and whilst it raised concern in the Father, it was happy to see his children doing so well given the circumstances. Danny greatly enjoyed learning about their new home and it's history which whilst taught on Benecia, had never seemed particularly relevant until now. Making friends was easy for the youngest Rye whose stories of life on the edge of friendly space fascinated his classmates, the Braun inherited from his soldier Father meant he was largely left alone by anyone bigger than him and the intelligence he took from his Mother meant that school was comfortable for him. Already leaning toward a career in Starfleet, Danny's mind was settled as he watched the Dominion war unfold each evening on the news network. It had triggered in him a desire to serve and to try and make a difference in the wider galaxy. It was something that his Father - who had already heard a similar explanation from his older child already - understood and would encourage in his offspring. Watching his older brother apply to and get accepted into the prestigious Starfleet Academy in pursuit of a career in Starfleet Security, Danny had something a little different in mind. After collecting a degree in Federation history, wanting to do something a little more hands on he chose to join the Starfleet Marine Corp. Entering service at Lympstone in England, Danny excelled. The challenge of just getting through the day was pushing him to thrive, the life was most certainly for him and he loved every moment rolling in the Devonshire dirt. Just under two years later he graduated with honours at the top of his class to the surprise of no one. |
