[OLD]

"Thank you for your reports and your opinions," she began. "First, I would like to remind you that I myself am a scientist. And Damon is a Marine. So I see both sides of this argument. Much as I appreciate the work of the Marines, we are not going to send down a recon team. We have a technological signature, but no signs of this being a hostile environment. As this planet is mostly agrarian, I would like to go in as merchants from a distant city. We'll go to the marketplace, trade goods, and spend the night. That will give us time to have a good look around and not bring any undo attention to ourselves."

Sam turned to Illise. "Look into those markings. If they represent where the people are from, find a village far enough away to be recognized but not familiar and copy their markings."

"We'll need a wagon and proper regional dress." Sam paused. "As an anthropologist and historian, I will lead the team. Lieutenants Hale and Drani, I would like you there as well. Teenah, you, too." She paused for a moment. "Lieutenant Barak, you're welcome as well." She looked around the table. "Any of you wish to be included?"

"I would be happy to join this adventure, Commodore," Arnon said. "Especially since only mild alterations to my ears are required."

"I'd like to join in as well," Jonathan chimed in after Arnon.

"Good. You're both welcome," Sam said.

Damon shrugged from the back of the room. "I'm going." He said matter-of-factly. Reg's be damned if he was going to let his wife go down to the surface alone when there was little to no intel on what they were getting into.

Sam turned to Damon, pleased he was going with her. There was no one she would rather have at her back than him.

Damion finally walked into the briefing. Sure it was nearly over, but between talking with Max and making sure Thy'las was secured in quarters, time just seemed to pass him by. He looked around and finally focused his eyes on Sam, a pleasing familiar face, and nodded. "Sorry I'm late, Commodore. Still getting used to my new roles. Did I miss anything important?" He asked as he took a seat and looked around.

Sam smiled, pleased to see Wolfe back. "You can read the reports. I'm taking a team down to a pre-industrial planet to have a look around."

"You're taking a team? As in you personally?" Damion replied, as he raised a bit of a brow before letting out a soft laugh. "Yeah, because that always goes well for us, doesn't it?" He took a moment to look around before shrugging his shoulder's before looking back to Sam with a smile. "Well you know I'm going with you right? Someone has to keep you safe."

Damon was always her first choice, but that went without saying. She had no doubt that with him along she would be fine. But sehe had no trouble bringing Wolfe along, too. "All right then, you can come along."

Jennifer was about to speak up when the Security officer spoke. She was glad to see that if a flag officer was to go on an away team at least someone would ensure her safety should something go awry. She surmised that despite regulation Samantha York had already informed her crew that the General regulation was to be ignored.

"Okay. Since you're going to twist me arm and insist." Damion replied quickly, adding a bit of a laugh.

Sam just smiled and shook her head. "Anyone else?"

"While that's going on, do you want some of the fighters scanning the area or just taking point and scouting the surrounding space? Even if they see us, we'll just look like meteors moving away from the planet." Leroy had gone back to working on his quiz, after his Marine idea had been shot down, before finishing it and starting a test he hadn't studied for.

"I don't want you near the planet," Sam said. "But getting a look at what else is around here wouldn't be a bad idea."

"Well, if the Colonel is going, a little more mussel won't hurt" Cam said, putting his name forward as such, "besides, I believe regulations state something along the lines of 'the CO must be accompanied by a security escort on all away mission' so we've got to send someone, may as well be the best Marines on the ship".

Damon nodded to the Captain's sensibilities. At least he was trying to follow regs. "Be picky about who you bring, Cam. Marines that can blend in might be a better choice than those with a dead eye." The Colonel then smiled at the man. "This will be your show, however, I'm just a tourist."

"You're my favorite tourist," Sam corrected. "And my first choice for any away team."

Cam nodded, "I appreciate that Sir, as well as the advice. The though with both of us down there, I don't believe there would be a need for that many more Marines"
