1,290 words; about a 6 minute read
Mission:
Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Yui's Quarters
Timeline: Backpost
Yui had been relieved of duty to rest for the next couple of days. The helm exploding with her literally right next to it hadn't been pretty. It was also news that the chief helm officer had been injured in the battle due to a console malfunction.
She was laid out on the couch in casual clothes reading a book. She had nothing better to do, her quarters were still unpacked and she couldn't be bothered to clean up or put anything away, all she wanted to do was lazy around until she felt better.
Leroy walked down the hall, tapping Yui's door chime as he nodded to a security officer. Striking up a conversation about personal arms being worn while on duty he waited.
"Come in" Yui called. She tried to move but it hurt, she was still in a bit of pain from the accident.
Bidding goodbye, Leroy stepped into the room as the door slid open. "Wow, you look worse than I feel," he said smiling. "What happened while I was out and about?"
"Oh" Yui said with a smile. "Nothing much. The helm blew up on me. I just need to rest for a bit now" she explained. "Some sort of power surge, but no one knows where it came from".
"It happens. During the academy we had a shuttle just vanish one day, no one knows where it went and no debris or anything else." Grabbing a chair he spun it around and strateled it before smiling. "No perminant damage? Not gonna end up with eyes like mine?"
Yui smiled. "Nope" she said. "They even gave me cookies and milk in sickbay" she explained.
"Well aren't you just spoiled," Leroy laughed as he got up. "So what would you like for dinner? I can cook anything that isn't an S-Rat."
Yui let out a small giggle. "Anything you want. You can suprise me" she said. "Its the first time a guy has ever cooked for me..." she explained blushing slightly.
"That's because you've been around honor less thugs. If a woman is injured, it becomes the man's duty to help them." Shrugging he looked at her quarters, then started replicating the items he would need. "I'll be back shortly, need something from my place."
"Erm ok" Yui said. "I can help if you want" she smiled as she pulled herself up. "Ouch!" she exclaimed gripping her side where she had been injured. It was healed but she was still recovering slightly.
"Stay down, it's nothing," he said gently pushing her back down to the couch. Twenty minutes later he was in her small kitchen, wearing an olive green undershirt that showed off his arms and part of his back, while he started to cook. Using the spices he had grabbed, he whisteled while cooking the steak, eggs, bacon, and hash browns.
Yui watched as he cooked. "What did you find out there?" she asked curiously. "Last I heard... that is before the helm blew up in my face. Was that there was a ship?"
"Yea, there was a ship, an arms dealer I think it was," he said shrugging. "That was besides the carrier my boy's blew into the next cosmos." Panning up the food he brought it over to her and laid her plate down. "Be careful, it's still hot."
Yui took the plate and looked it over. She had never eaten anything as fancy as this. "So, what do you call this recipe?" she asked curiously.
"Breakfast in bed," Leroy said smiling. "Usually made for people fresh out of the hospital or women during mothers day. It's also simple to make and doesn't take all that much time and energy."
"I see" Yui said as she tucked in. It was a nice different mixture of flavours. "I'm not a mother yet, but fresh out of Hospital is right" she said with a smile. "I haven't heard from anyone about the helm yet. I'm due to return to duty tomorrow, I need to check in with Sickbay first to make sure I'm good though" she explained. "Plus while we're on the subject, have you ever considered having children?" she asked curiously.
Leroy stopped doing what he had been doing, cleaning the skillet and pans. He didn't know how he wanted to answer that question. "Let me ask you this. We know that the many worlds theory in physics is true, do you think in another timeline, or another world that I have had children? That I had children with you?"
Yui started to blush. "I suppose its possible..." she said in reply. "I mean, there's this timeline too and its still possible right?" she asked with a smile. "People partner up all the time... maybe it is more possible than we know?"
"Maybe, and to answer your question I've wanted kids but never found that one person worth my time." Shrugging Leroy yawned, quickly calling up a black can with white lettering from the replicator which he crackedbopen, the tab sounding like a soft gunshot, and started drinking. "Sorry, didn't mean to yawn at you." He also quickly started to finish the dishes.
"Thats ok" Yui said. "Am I worth the time?" she asked blushing again.
Leroy smiled, then laughed softly. "I'm sure that you are to be honest. But to figure that out, we're going to have to take the time.
"Usually one would say take a girl on a dinner..." Yui stopped and thought for a second. "Out to dinner... first..." she said with a smile. "But haven't we already done that? Technically speaking?" she asked, her ditzitness coming through a little there.
"Well I distinctly remember cooking for you, you falling asleep, and me cooking for you again, so yes I think that part has been covered." Leroy yawned a little, feeling the strain. "So what would be next on your syllabus of finding out if we're worth it?"
"I'm not sure..." Yui said as she also yawned. Yawning even in the 24th century was still contagious. "You could stay here tonight... if you want..." she said blushing slightly.
Leroy shook his head slightly as he finished the dishes, drying his hands. "When this mission is over I will be more than happy to spend the night. But we have that meeting in a few hours, I'll sleep through it if I lay down now." Moving gently, he kissed the top of her head.
Yui closed her eyes when he kissed the top of her head. She took his hand and held it. "Thanks again" She said. "Can you come again tomorrow?" she asked.
"Depends on if I'm flying or not. Even I have to keep a certain amount of time out there to keep my certification."
"Can you let me fly her one day... or take me for a ride" Yui asked with a smile.
"I'll take you for a ride, I'm sure the Captain would OK some down time for the both of us after this mission and we'll take her to Risa or back to Earth. She hasn't been home in a while." Leroy stood and smiled. "Get some rest, we have a meeting in a few hours."
"Sounds good" Yui replied as she pulled herself up and placed her empty plate on the side. As Leeroy walked towards the door she walked upto him, placed her arms around him and then kissed him lightly on the cheek before blushing bright red like a tomato from embarrassment.
Smiling he held the woman close. "Sleep, I'll see you at the meeting and after all this crazy stops. Just make sure I have a home to come back to."
