Mission:
Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Kara's Quarters
ON
Kara was off duty and dressed in a pair of shorts and an olive drab t-shirt. She was doing a field day of the quarters while she waited for Cam to get off duty. It had been so long since she'd finished her courses that she'd almost given up hope of getting the results any time soon. Now, she was doing all she could to keep her mind off the slow progression of the chronometer while she worked.
Stepping into Kara's Quarters, straight away Cam started to strip off his uniform. Today he'd conducted his monthly inspection of the Marine Barracks and all associated areas, which he'd always found tiring, "I hate inspections" he said as he made a b-line for the shower.
Kara chuckled, knowing that she would have to wait a little longer to share her news.
After almost half an hour, Cam emerged from the bathroom wearing nothing but his towel wrapped around his waist. It was only now that he noticed how implacably clean Kara's quarters were, "well you've been busy. Expecting visitors?"
"You," she said, giving him a warm kiss in welcome. "I got my final grades today," she said, unable to keep from grinning. "I'm now a Butter Bar."
Cam was surprised, he had no idea Kara wanted to become an officer, "wow, that's great, congratulations" he said, giving her a hug, lifting her off the ground in the process, "why didn't you tell me you were studying to become an officer?"
"I'd finished my courses before we got together," she said. "And I got busy with other stuff and didn't think about it. It started out with a university degree and then moved to OCS. I really wasn't sure they'd accept my credits, or accept me even if I passed the courses."
Cam smiled, "the Corp would be insane to turn you down, I think you'll make a good officer. So when does it become official?"
"Two weeks. I'll stay where I'm at for now, but I'll be an officer instead of enlisted," she said. "Part of me is thrilled, but part of me still wants to be a Gunny." She ran her fingers along to top of his towel. "The best thing about it is that we don't have to worry about anyone accusing us of fraternization."
Cam nodded, "I forgot about that. I've been around fleeties too long. Well, I guess you'll be moving pritty soon. Maybe we should put in for one of the family quarters? Finally move in together properly"
"Good idea," she said, giving him a quick kiss. "It would be nice to not keep going back and forth."
"Yea, and you'll finally have room for all those pretty clothes you've got stashed around here"
"I don't have that many clothes stashed around here. I hardly have time to dress up," she said, shaking her head. Well, she had half a dozen dresses and about as many blouses and skirts, but she didn't consider that too much.
"Well, maybe we should do something about that. Next time we get shore leave, I'm taking you out for a nice dinner, all fancy and everything"
"I'll hold you to that!" she said, grinning. "Now, let me shower and we can celebrate." She went into her closet to strip off her clothes and toss them into her hamper before grabbing clean ones and heading for the shower.
Twenty minutes later she returned, dressed in a black tank top and shorts. "Okay, so what should we do to celebrate?"
Cam smiled playfully, "well, we could go down to the barracks and torture some NCO's for a while"
"That's what I do every day," she said. "Torture Privates." She shook her head. "We could go to the range and shoot a few rounds, or we could go out and get something to eat."
"I think a little target practice would be fun. Besides, I haven't had a chance to show you how good I am with a Sniper Rifle"
She raised an eyebrow and grinned. "Okay, let's see how good you are. Give me a minute." She went back into her closet and retrieved a clean pair of olive drabs and t-shirt and dressed.
She padded back in her stocking feet and sat on the couch to lace up her boots.
Walking over to Kara, Cam knelt down and tied up her other boot, "you know we're only going down to the holodeck" he said before heading into Kara's closet and grabbing the spare set of Camos he'd left in there, "maybe you can show me how well you can handle a Rifle" he called out to Kara
"Yes, we're only going to the holodeck, but I don't want to go parading in front of any of my Marines in shorts and a tank top" she said. "Oh, I can definitely handle a rifle," she said with a cheeky grin. "I'll be happy to show you my technique."
"Oh is that so?" Cam asked, as he stepped out wearing his full Camo gear, with the exception of the face paint, and carrying a a long case "well than, 2nd Lieutenant, let us see if you can back up those claims"
"Challenge accepted, Captain Bourne," she replied with a cocky smile. "My rifle is in the armory. So, what's the wager?"
Cam mulled it over for a second, "I'm not sure. I'm open to suggestions"
"Okay, how about dinner. Steak. NOT replicated."
"Wait, you want a real steak? Out here? That's going to use up a lot of favours" Cam said, thinking it through, "alright, done, but if you loose, I want a bottle of scotch, the proper stuff, Irish, 2100's"
Kara was pretty sure Apu could get one, but she had no idea what the cost would be. "Done." She gave him a quick kiss to seal the deal. "Okay, to the armory and then we'll see how good you really are."
