977 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Calypso

ON

Munich sat in the First Officer's chair, he was in command of the ship while the Captain is away of official business. The ship was at a yellow alert at the moment while the crew were trying to figure out what is really going on?

Munich did not like this seat; it had the lives of ... everyone resting on his shoulders.

"Sir I have contacts inbound." The Science Officer reported. "Small vessels..." The Officer scanned with more detail. "Fighter configuration."

"Give me a vector." Munich turned to the Flight Control Officer. "PLot intercept courses for the fighters.."

"Two two seven Mark four." The Science Officer reported. "They are making a straight course for us."

"Neither planet..." Munich remarked to himself.

"Red Alert!" Munich commanded. "Commodore York to the Bridge, we are coming under attack!" He transmitted. "Launch the fighters." Munich ordered. "Power up the Phaser Array, Arm Photon Torpedoes, All sections Battle Stations."

"On my way," Sam replied.

Yui's hand ran over the helm console. "They can manuever much better than we can" she reported. She could see their attack vector. "But I'd like to see them try against me..."

[Sickbay]

Doctor Frost looked up from the PADD she held, the results from the lab concerning Lieutenant Andrews when the Klaxons went off once more. "Have we entered a war and we don't know it?" She said out loud as she slipped the PADD in her lab coat pocket and picked up a tricorder to place in the other. "Alright people step lively and prepare for casualties. "Computer activate EMH."

Galen was in the middle of a diagnostic cycle when the activation came. The Hollo-Core was functioning within normal parameters but she had wanted to be sure after the damage that the ship had taken. So far, there was nothing to cause any concern. Continuing to monitor it's progress, she appeared in Sick Bay. The Klaxons were sounding again and Galen took a millisecond to marvel at the rate which the ship found itself in danger. The diagnostic showed no drains along the Hollo-Core's connections to the main power grid, so the ship wasn't hit again - yet. Aware that she was no longer in the safety of the station, she preformed an automatic backup of her program to the Core's secure memory. "Hello Doctor Frost. How can I be of assistance?"

"Emergency Medical Hologram does not sound very appealing if you are to be regular part of the medical staff, what can I call you?"

"My official designation is Emergency Medical Hologram Mark 8-0006," she made a wry face, "It's not very nice is it? I much prefer ‘Galen’."

Frost nodded "Right, Galen it is. You have the infirmary for the moment Galen, I need to grab a quick bite to eat" but before she could the tall Amazon woman spoke which surprised Frost because she had thought that Andrews had left.

Andrews was moving on her bed. "Doc, can I get out of here? Something's going on and I think I should be in on it!"

"Lieutenant Andrews you were cleared to leave earlier." Frost replied as she turned from the EMH.

Andrews flashed a grin at Doctor Frost, while replying "Great!" Andrews hit her Com badge. "Andrews to Bridge, on my way.." She scurried out of Sick Bay to the nearest turbolift for the Bridge.

"Thank you Doctor," Galen told Frost, "Enjoy your meal." She watched Andrews leave and then looked around the sickbay, although she knew every millimeter of the space already. This past week had been all about firsts: Her first assignment, first ship, first patient, first surgery, and now, her first time in charge of the infirmary - even if only for a short time.

There was much to do in the wake of the assault on the ship. Most of the wounded had been discharged only recently. Two patients still lay on bio-beds, as their wounds had been more serious than the rest. Galen checked on them, but both were still sedated and sleeping soundly. The diagnostic on the Hollo-Core was finished, and Galen reviewed the results while helping the nurses prep for the next wave of possible casualties that would most certainly accompany this new Alert status.

[Bridge]

Yui broke the Calypso out of orbit. They were a sitting duck if they remained in orbit. She knew that the Galaxy Class had several weak spots which she was trying her best to protect.
"Course of action sir?" she asked. She needed an attack pattern or something.

Sam walked onto the bridge and headed for her seat. "Report," she said to Hans as he moved to the XO's chair.

"Fighter configuration, not launched from wither planet and on an intercept course." MUnich said as he stood to attention. "Ve hav broken orbit to give us some maneuvering room and no replies to hails." He report while tryng to fight his natral tendency for a strongest German accent. "I Hav scrambled fighters and the Ship is at Red Alert, shields up and weapons hot."

Sam nodded. "Thank you. Any word on the phaser canon that fired on us from the planet?"

Lt. Andrews bounded onto the Bridge and hurried to her station and plugged in. "Science Station up and manned, Captain. Executing scan of attacking fighters... Scanning planet surface for source of cannon fire."

"Tactical is at your disposal." Munich said calmly. "You find it und dey destroy it." His German accent emphasizing his words.

Andrews looked over her board. "Target found, transfering coordinates to the fighters...now." Andrews flashed a cruel smile. "Kill them all." She muttered under her breath.
