Mission: Deadly Diplomacy

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Galen sighed. She knew that she would have to accept some skepticism from her shipmates, and had not been surprised when lieutenant S'kott had been curious about her. Even after several decades of use the E.M.H. protocols still faced some cynicism. She understood of course. A being of flesh and blood would always prefer the interaction and care of one of their own. She had hoped however, that her co-workers, at least, would not share this attitude. But it was what it was, and Galen would not let herself be offended. However, being programmed to emulate human emotions, Galen could not keep the disappointment off her face as she picked up a tricorder and scanned Frost's arm. "There is significant busing of the extensor capri ulnaris, but no fractures." she told the Doctor as she reached for a regenerator and began passing is over the injury. "It will be tender, but there is not lasting damage. When she was finished, Galen also looked at Frost's chin. A dark bruise was beginning to form where she had struck in on the bio-bed. "Let's take care of this too." A few seconds of treatment and the bruise disappeared. "There, good as new."

[NEW]

Doctor Frost's jaw dropped slightly as the EMH readily stepped in to take care of her wounds. The things hands were almost life like and it preformed its duties quickly, efficiently. Frost liked that, then again if all EMH's were to adapt more like this one why have a flesh and blood doctor at all. Frost already knew that answer too, beside manner was the normal consideration and there would always be those instances when a machine, a hologram could not be accessed. Ilse flexed her arm slightly and then flashed one of her grins. "Nicely done." She said with a complimentary tone.

"Thank you Doctor Frost." Galen smiled at the compliment.

Frost had many questions but Frost realized that there was something a bit different about this EMH and perhaps when they were not so busy with an emergency she could review and find out more about it, tea or coffee was the accepted standard for a flesh and blood being, what did one get a hologram. She looked perplexed for a moment and then asked "Why a female form. Most previous EMH's have been male, why adjust the programming now?"

Galen shrugged. "Most sentient species have both genders, with qualities differing - some greatly - in both. The Federation shows no partiality between genders, so restricting the E.M.H. protocols to one would be inappropriate. They never intended too either, the male program was simply developed first and then used to create me programs. The new Holo-templates started fresh, and genders are assigned to best suit a program's traits. Besides," she spun a little for show, "I have always found that females have a much greater sense of grace, don't you?"

Frost looked at the EMH as if she were a bit odd, twirling in sickbay. She shrugged slightly, Ilse didn't consider herself graceful but then again she was far to busy to think of such things.

Helga tapped her combadge. "This is sickbay. What is the nature of your emergency?"

"It's Lieutenant Andrews," came the reply over the comms. "She said she felt ill and then suddenly just collapsed."

Helga activated a site-to-site transport. Andrews appeared on a biobed. "We've got her. Sickbay out."

"Ship is cloaking again," Phoenix announced. I think it's going to make a run for it."

Leroy shot after the cloaking ship, again and again firing his phasers. He watched it turn as it shimmered into nothing. Slamming his fist down on the console, he yelled several volitile things but quickly got himself under control. -^- Unless the captain objects, I want three shifts of fighters surrounding the Caly. I need to restock, and refuel. Anyone else?-^-

"I'm good," Phoenix said. "I'll take watch. Go restock."

"Locate where that shot came from!" Sam ordered.

Storm worked the console. "Ma'am! it came from the planet." Storm exclaimed before his jaw would drop. "My god! Ma'am it was a polaron turret!"

"A what? I didn't think the Palarians had polarons," Sam said.

She ran a hand through her hair and looked at Damon. "We can't shoot back or we will be guilty of violating the peace treaty and starting a war. We need to send an away team to the planet. Covert. Find out what's going on and report back. I can't believe a government that fought so hard for peace is so eager to end it."

"I find it hard to believe as well." Damon agreed. "There has been an unseen element at play from the beginning. Someone who obviously has a lot to gain from seeing us fail." Damon balled his fist; an almost involuntary action. "I think we are both done playing someone else's game."

A slow smile crept across Sam's face. "Agreed. So, what do you suggest we do?"

"Even if these governments think we have fired upon them they would have contacted us and demanded the reason for it. The fact that they have been silent until now is very telling. I think someone is blocking communications. Now either someone has taken control of the turret and is trying to instigate a firefight or they think we have shut down all communications and are retaliating. Either way, I agree that sending a small team down is the best course. I also think that turret is the first place we should check out."

Sam nodded. "Agreed. Lieutenant Storm, now's your chance to prove yourself. Take a small away team -- include Marines -- and see what you can find."
