Sam sat at her desk, a half-empty energy drink on the desk beside her. It wasn't good, she knew, but for now ita helped her stay awake. She had to push herself until she couldn't stay awake. Only then would she be able to avoid the nightmares. So far, she'd seen Damon die five times and it was starting to get to her.
The reports she was reading weren't much better. It seemed like most of the crew was having similar problems. Unfortunately, she was so tired she was having problems coming up with solutions. So she sent out a message to her senior staff, department heads and assistants, to come to the conference room in one hour. Maybe, between the lot of them, they could come up with some answers.
Cam was in the Gym, working out to try and get the images from last nights dream out of his mind. Half way through a set of squats, a Private walked up to him holding a printed message, "Sir, the Commadore has requested all department heads to the conference room in an hour" he reported, holding out the piece of paper he was carrying.
Standing up straight, Cam took the paper, read it, than sighed, "thank you Private, dismissed" he said, before picking up his towl and heading for his quarters to get changed.
[One hour later]
Sam had taken a power nap and was feeling a little better. As she liked to provide snacks for her staff briefings, she'd provided a large pot of coffee and one of tea. She also had three varieties of herbal tea along with pastries and fruit. Sugar and caffeine, a great way to get people's attention. She hoped.
Malcolm walked in bright eyed and bushy tailed. Unlike most of the crew, he hadn't been having any weird nightmares that everyone else claims to have, at least he hadn't yet. For now he was just enjoying the fact he could still sleep normally although he wasn't looking forward to the counseling sessions to come."Good morning Commodore!!" he shouted happily as he sat down.
Cam walked in not long after in a fresh uniform, carrying a mug of strong Coffee. Giving a nod to the two officers in the room, he made his way to one of he empty chairs and sat down quietly.
Sam smiled at both of them. "Good morning."
Doctor Bowen appeared through the doors of the conference room and accidently yawned. The smell of coffee brought her attention. "Need coffee...good morning," she walked past them to the table that had a coffee pot. Leanne yawned again as she picked up the pot and poured her a cup. After she added the necessary ingredients to make it sweet enough, she took a sip and head over to sit in an empty spot.
"Hi, Leanne. Help yourself," Sam said, understanding far too well how the doctor was feeling.
Bowen gave her a slight smile, "Captain...thanks."
"This is getting ridiculous" Cam said, looking over at Sam, "Half of my Platoons are now mainstreaming Coffee just to get through the day, including me" he said, raising his mug, "I'd hate to see what will happen if the replicators go down even for only a day"
"I know. That's one of the reasons we're here: to find answers," Sam said.
She closed her eyes, just for a moment...
Suddenly the sound of metal being scrapped across a bulkhead echoed across sickbay.
Sam sat up and looked around. What was she doing in sickbay? She looked down, noting that she was wearing an old-fashioned hospital gown. The scraping sound came again and she looked around.
A small child sat at the chair across from Sam stared into her eyes. "One, two Freddy's coming for you..."
Sam woke up with a start. Freddy. Had her nightmares come to this? Characters from old horror movies? She shook her head and took another swallow her her drink.
Jourdan was next to enter, or at least try to. Instead of walking through the door she ended up walking into its doorframe. Her eyes were heavy and she stumbled through and into a chair.
"Thats the fourth door to get in my way this morning. That and having a screaming child every hour all night long, and no sleep for two days" she said grumpily as she took a cup of coffee and started to drink it. "And I this stuff just isn't strong enough".
As jourdan walked through the door a child appeared on the other side. She wore a white nightgown that went down to her ankles however the gown was town with five cuts spaced equally apart in a diagonal pattern across her chest.
"Three, Four, better lock your door..."
Eamon felt strange the past few days, his usual disciplines preventing the emotions of others overpower him were somewhat lacking. He didn't understand why. Sadly a staff meeting didn't help but with his mind focused on blocking his empathic senses he didn't notice Jourdan in the way and collided with her.
He grabbed her during the collision on the arms as an instinct and this contact was enough to make his feel what she was, mainly anger with more then a hint of annoyance at both the doorframe and lack of sleep. Eamon let go and went about tidying himself up. "Sorry Lieutenant," was all he could say for he decided against asking how she was for he knew already and thought it best not to verbally reminder her about her troubles.
Jourdan was only shaken a little.
"I swear everyone and everything is up against me today, either I'm invisible or people just like me too much" she said ending with a slight yawn.
"well, what are we going to do? we can't keep draining the ships power, and after the coffee stops working, the next step is stims and that's a slippery slope I don't want to start down" Cam asked, looking over at Sam just as she jerked awake.
"That's what I want to discuss," she said. Sam looked around and the group gathered around the conference table. "The situation with the nightmares and lack of sleep is causing serious problems around the ship. No one has managed to isolate the cause of the problems, so I'd like us to brainstorm some ideas on what we can look for and how we might get this resolved."
