ON

Down in the Marine Barracks, Cam was running his Platoons through a few drills. He was carrying a large mug of steaming coffee, which had become almost part of his uniform. Every morning, after getting what sleep he could in between nightmares, he'd get up, get dressed and order his first coffee of the day. By now he was drinking almost seven mugs a day just to keep himself awake and partially alert.

The sounds of metal being dragged across a bulkhead could be heard in the barracks.

Hearing the scraping noise reverberate around the large room, the marines started to look around for the source of the sound. Comments of 'what is that?' Or 'where is it coming from?' were the most common.

Looking around himself, Cam turned his attention back to the parade, "Alright, that's enough. Drill's over, return to the barracks and await further instructions from myself or another member of the senior staff" he ordered as he turned around to head for the way out.

Suddenly a small child appeared before Cam adorned in a white nightgown that reached her ankles. She stared up at Cam. "Five, Six, get a crucifix."

Looking down at this girl on surprise, Cam felt a chill run up his spine. This was no ordinary child. Slowly reaching up to his neck, Cam pulled out a small golden crucifix attached to a thin necklace, "who are you?" He asked quietly, giving the cross a slight rub

The girl turned about revealing another series of markings across her back. She walked towards the door and left the barracks.

Looking after her, Cam just got more and more confused. He hadn't been on the Calypso for that long but he'd never met a young girl like that before. Turning around, Cam suddenly found himself in an empty room, no people, no equipment, it was just a empty cavern. "Well, this is new" he said, looking around. Suddenly there was a blinding flash of light than everything went pitch black.

Quickly opening his eyes, Cam found himself sitting in his office. He fallen asleep in his chair while writing up a few evaluations for his staff. Shaking his head to try and clear the images from his mind, Cam Stood up and walked over to the replicator, "Coffee, black, double strong" he ordered.

Kara rubbed her eyes again and shook her head. "Get a grip, Melo. Get this assignment done, take the test and you'll have two weeks to get some rest."

Since arriving on the Calypso she'd been working on a degree in history. She wasn't as interested in the history of war as she was in what was going on in the world to cause it. Or to facilitate it. And, with her BA she would be able to finish her OCS work and apply to be an officer. It was all coming together -- or would be if she didn't flake out and fail this assignment. If she had any hope of becoming an officer she needed to get good grades and good grades meant doing well on each assignment.

She wrote another half page and got up, walking over to the replicator. "Computer, energy drink, lots of sugar and B vitamins."

She pulled out the glass and took a sip. It was nasty, but it would do the trick. She hoped. She downed the drink and went back to her desk. Ten more pages to go and she could put it aside for today, proof-read it tomorrow.

Even with the added vitamins in her system she felt her eyelids droop and her head nod. She jumped up, moved to the center of her room and began to do 20 jumping jacks to get her blood pumping. She sat back down at her desk. Next step, a cold shower.

Inside sickbay, Doctor Bowen has tried to help all the crewmembers with the sleep problems and nightmares, but couldn't treat them all. Drugs can only be used minimal because of complications with the long term. Most of the crewmembers had to use herbs that she recommended as well as drinks with caffeine.

As for herself, she has been having nightmares on and off while taking some herbs to help relax. Where and when did this started? She hoped to find some answers to put an end to this.

Someone screamed and she jumped up from her office chair and ran into the main sickbay, finding her nurse laying on the floor. Leanne went down next to Nurse Jaynes to calm her and bring her out of her sleep mode.

Lizzie hadn't been in the arboretum in two days. Not since she fell asleep and dreamed that the trees were trying to eat her.

Instead, she spent her time in hydroponics. It was still part of her job but one she usually left to others. But she'd finally convinced herself that it was only a nightmare caused by lack of sleep.

She stopped just inside the doorway and listened carefully for any sounds that shouldn't be there. Specifically, any sounds of irate trees. Then, hearing nothing, she very slowly made her way through the arboretum to her workshop in the back.

Only when she was safely inside did she relax. Okay, she'd made it all the way through without any problems. So, to celebrate, she make herself a bowl of ice cream with chocolate chip cookies.

Jourdan sat staring at the warp core, her head in her hands. The soft humming was putting her asleep slowly. She hadn't slept properly in days with being up with Ruby's nightmares and screams, plus her own were troubling her. She knew that she had to show herself as a role model to her department.

"Computer, what is the time?" she asked. She didn't hear the response quickly, instead her hand slipped and her head hit the console. Meanwhile on the bridge all the power went out.

Sam sat for a moment, looking around. "Computer, activate lights on the bridge."

"Unable to comply."

She looked at her console and quickly ascertained that nothing was wrong with the system or the computer. She tapped her combadge. "York to Abbott."

Jourdan woke up quickly.
"Huh, what, erm, yes Commodore?" Jourdan asked back.

"All the lights went out on the bridge. A quick diagnostic ways everything should be fine. Could you please find out what happened and fix it?"

Jourdan suddenly tapped the console quickly out of panic. The lights and power came back on the bridge.
"Sorry about that Commodore... I've been very tired lately... unable to sleep. It won't happen again".

"I wish all our problems were as easily resolved," Sam said. She couldn't help smiling at the cause. "Next time, use the couch. York out."

Khalpek was once again lost in a dream. Her Father was very angry with her. She didn't know what she might have done, but she was wracked with shame. Suddenly, without warning, he struck her hard. She was knocked to the floor.

A moment later, she opened her eyes and found herself on the floor of her quarters.
