Location: Holodeck 2

[OLD]

[Black Pearl]

Shade had stayed on the ship, helping the crew with repairing the wooden boat. There wasn't extensive damage where he was, but some of the fire he had produced had splashed back. As he worked on the charred wood, he looked at his supplies and sighed. "Captain," he said looking up. "You know this port better than I do... is there a place I can do a resupply?" He was all business, hoping that the nightmare would end soon. "And some fresh water, I'm getting real tired of not swallowing anything."

"Yes..." she replied thoughtfully. "There's a small shop called the Cat Gut. Don't mind the name. It buys and sells whatever sailors need -- or need to get rid of. Show up right after the ships come in. Best to catch them while they're busy. Or, see if Marek can set you up. He's found a way to 'add to the adventure,' so to speak." She didn't want to go into any details with other crew around. The last thing she needed was a group of pirates looking to add to their bounty by threatening Marek. "If you go ashore, wait until dawn. Easier to avoid trouble that way."

[Outside the Blue Dolphin]

Kara stood under the trees a short distance from the pub. She didn't want to lose Cam when -- if -- he left the pub, but she also didn't want to be in plain sight when the other sailors left, either. She'd had her share of trouble with drunken Marines, she didn't want to see how they compared to drunken sailors.

She looked at Amarylis again. "So, what happened to your friend and the Borg?"

"Like many others on the Calypso she was taken to the rhombus. Thankfully we were able to get her back....but I'm not exactly sure how much of her truly returned." Amarylis replied; her voice trailing off as she withheld speaking any further. Like Alexandra she kept her inner demons close to her chest. She had already broken her promise to Vance once, she would not betray it again.

Kara gave Amarylis a hug. "We have the best doctors and counselors. I'm sure she'll be fine in time. Especially with friends like you pulling for her."

Amarylis returned the embrace. "We are gonna need a miracle..."

Kara heard people leaving the pub so she slipped into the shadows.

Cam walked out of the dolphin, supporting the other marine, who'd had a bit too much to drink, "I warned you not to match drinks with him" cam said to him as they made their way out onto the street

Not far behind them, several Sailors followed, each as drunk as the next. "Come on mates, let's go find those girls that were in there before, I'd like to keep them company" the largest of the group said, sounding a lot soberer than he was.

Cam heard the sailors comments about Kara and Amarylis, but chose to ignore them, he had a sloshed marine to look after right now. Getting a better hold on his load, Cam headed back to the ship

Kara heard the comments, but chose to stay back and let the drunken sailors pass. She wanted to catch up with Cam, but someone came up behind her and put a hand over her mouth. "We'll have none of that lassie."

Kara reached for her knife and sliced into the man's hand, causing him to let go of her. She didn't pause long enough to see who he was, choosing instead to run after Cam. At least she'd have some protection there.

She broke from the cover of the trees to see six men, all holding muskets pointed at her. She came to a quick halt. "Umm, hi? Is there a problem?"

"Aye, lassie," the man came from behind her. "I recognized you from the Black Pearl. You're one of the pirates, aren't you?"

"I think you have me mistaken with someone else," she said. "I'm traveling to New England with my friends. We want to settle there and find us some nice shop owners to marry. You're the one that told me about the pirates, remember?" She recognized him now. He was the man from the other table. The one who said a number of ships would launch tomorrow to search for the pirate ship.

"Well then, lassie, it won't be too hard to prove, now will it?" He nodded to one of the men who tied a rope around Kara. "For now, we have a nice brig to put you in. The judge will be wanting to ask you some questions."

Another man who smelled of old ale and rotten teeth whispered in her ear. "Behave and we won't have to shoot you -- or find other ways to keep you quiet. The folks around here don't take kindly to pirates."

"There's a ship heading out tomorrow for Victoria Island. There's a regiment posted there to deal with the likes of you." He looked around for her companions. "Where are the rest of 'em?"

"I came alone. The people at my table were folk I met today. I don't know where they went and I don't care."

The man backhanded her for her impertinence. "Never you mind. We'll find them." He nodded to the other men who pushed Kara towards the brig.

Samantha watched the sun set and the stars come out. It was a beautiful sight with the ocean in one direction and a tropical island in the other.

Finally, when it was fully dark and the stars were giving enough light to see where she was going, Sam thanked Robert and climbed down the rigging to get some sleep.

Her cabin wasn't very large, but it had a large four-poster bed in the corner complete with satin drapes. She didn't know who added that touch, but it made the bed quite comfortable.

The crew would be returning in the morning with fresh supplies. By then she hoped she'd have some answers from Marek.

When Sam started to leave Robert spoke softly "sleep tightly for tomorrow is going to be long and remember keep you head up" said with out taking his eye's of the view so not let here see the tear's that fell form his eye's

[Dawn]

Sam woke at dawn, eager to learn what Marek worked out. And to leave the cove before they were spotted.

"Johnny, I want a head count. Make sure everyone's back from shore leave. I want to leave in two hours." That would give Shade time to get to the market and back.

He came back fifteen minutes later. "All but eight accounted for."

Sam nodded. "Good. Give me another report in 90 minutes."

Ninety minutes later, Johnny found her overseeing the raising of the sails. "Cap'n, two of the crew are still not aboard. No one has seen them since last night."

"Who are they?"

"Kara Melo and Amarylis Beckinsale."

Sam's heart sank. They were supposed to return last night. Neither of the women was likely to stay behind. Especially when the other Marines came back by 0200. "Johnny, inform Cameron Bourne. I think we have a problem."
