Mission: A Pirate's Life
Location: USS Calypso

ON

Lizzie ran continuous scans of the area to make sure nothing ran into them while the ship was at a standstill. It wasn't likely, but she was a little nervous about the power loss on one quarter of the ship.

Suddenly the power went out on the bridge and the red emergency lights came on. "Oh, great." She turned to the officer at the helm. "What happened?"

'The power went out," he said, stating the obvious.

"Yes, but what HAPPENED to cause the power to go out?"

"I dunno."

That was helpful. "Computer, why is the power out?"

There was no response from the computer.

"Computer?"

Nothing. To make matters worse, the thrum from the warp core stopped. Then the emergency lights went out. "Oh, crap."

[Engineering]

Once Engineering had been switched over to the power generated from Sparrowhawk Jourdan had immediately jumped to the power monitor console.
"We have enough to keep the bridge online" she reported. She shunted more steam power to the Bridge causing the bridge to come back online.

=A= Abbott to bridge. We're going to do a whole power shutdown of the ship to wipe our computers. However throughout this, we will be running Engineering and the Bridge off our Sparrowhawk, so basically we're running on steam power =A= Jourdan explained.

"Steam power?" Lizzie asked from the bridge. "How are you getting steam power?" As far as she recalled, there were no experiments with steam on the ship.

=A= You won't have much. We'll have a few consoles, and thats it. Everything else will be offline, including sensors. You'll have to rely on the mobile life support unit for air =A= Jourdan explained.

"Okay. I'll inform the others on the bridge," Lizzie said. "Bridge out."

[Sickbay]

Doctor Valdez was in surgery working on a patient when everything shut down. Then, the emergency power came on with a dim light. He worked faster to finish up and close up the open skin.

Doctor Hart quickly opened the door and held up a mask over his mouth to prevent germs. "Need any help, Valdez?"

"I'm almost done here," he said. "Contacted Bowen?"

"I cannot reach her as our communicators are out. The computer is out as well...", Jason paused, "just finish up and we need to find a way to reach the secondary sickbay."

Wesley Valdez placed the laser scalpel down on the surgical tray, "Surgery is complete. Nurse, slowly wean off the medication and send him to the recovery bed."

"Yes, sir," Nurse Tay'ork said.

Doctor Hart left the operating room and went to pick up a PADD. Seeing that the instrument doesn't work, he grunted. He went into the main sickbay to do a head count of the patients and added one in the recovery room. Jason turned to look at the surgeon coming out of the O.R. with his surgical scrubs and a mask hanging on his chest. "We have a total of 9 patients here including the one in recovery. One thing that will be a challenge is not using the instruments as they aren't working."

Wesley nodded.

The Vulcan nurse walked up next to the doctors, "Patient is in recovery, sir. I am capable with ancient medicine without instruments, sir."

Doctor Hart looked at the straight face nurse. "Then you will need to teach the nurses what to do if they don't know how. We don't know how long the power is going to last on emergency."

"Yes, sir," Laura Tay'ork said. "I will keep my eye on the post-surgical patient."

The surgeon waited till the nurse left, "how many helpers do we have here?"

Jason shook his head, "Not enough right now. Two doctors of us...two nurses and one medic. Doctor Bowen has been off shift today. Doctor Mandy Lane is suppose to be in the other sickbay with Nurse Jaynes. Nurse Tarango was sent to her quarters two days ago after coming down with a bad cold."

[Science]

Ronnie gathered what she needed from her office and made sure her bugs were in a protected area so they wouldn't suffocate or starve. Then she did a quick check of the rest of the department to make sure everyone was out and on their way to somewhere safe.

It was weird to think of science being dark. It hadn't been dark since Sam set up the secondary power supply. She didn't take long to think about it. She had to finish checking and get to one of the safe areas.

[Deck 15]

Eamon and his security team continued finding, supplying oxygen packs and escorting the crew stuck in the black-out portion of the Calypso. Time was running out and six more decks to go before Eamon could even consider resting or relaxing.

Since it was primarily science labs and no power it was easy to force the science officers to abandon their work as they couldn't continue without power. A few were trying to use portable power generators but with no gravity their efforts failed. Eamon escorted them out into the corridor and ordered security officers to take them to deck twenty.

He had counted up to 300 having been saved and on their way to the rear of the ship. His tricorder still detected another 200 people throughout the remaining 6 decks. Air was rapidly vanishing so he had to hurry.

[Bridge]

Lizzie still felt like a kid waiting for the bogey man to jump out at her. The lights were back and the air was cooler and fresher, but there was still the eerie silence of no engines. Had she ever been on a ship that wasn't working? She didn't think so. She scanned the systems again for any changes and thought about the arboretum. The trees would give off some oxygen, but it wouldn't help for long. She really hoped everything would be fine when this was over.
