Mission: Subjugation

ON

[Planetside]

The first group broke out of the tower into a dark, clear night. The fresh air was a startling change from the pungent, often acrid air of the mines.

Looking around, the only thing Ronnie could see that resembled civilization was a tall building that resembled a barracks.

"Where do we go from here?" she asked.

Cameron stepped up to the front of the group, "we need somewhere to bunker down. I say we check out that building"

"Looks pretty deserted!" Damion yelled out as he looked around the others and then back to Ronnie. "Lets stay together. Just because it looks empty, doesn't mean it is." He looked back around to the others, motioning forward and moving ahead. "Lets go!"

Kara glanced at Cam, then back to Damion. "Why not let the Marines check it out first. We can do some recon and let you know if it's safe. That way, you don't endanger the whole group." From what she'd seen, the civilians could handle themselves quite well. She wasn't so sure about some of the fleeties, though. Better safe than sorry.

"I agree" Cameron said, looking over at Kara, "I can take a small team in and secure the place. There's no guarantee that we can even take the building, and if we don't, we need somewhere to fall back to"

"We don't need to take the building," Kara said. "But we do need to know what's in there and if it'll help us get out of here."

"it's your call mate, you seem to be the one everyone's looking to for answers" Cameron said, looking over at Damion

Kara, too, waited for his response.

Damion looked over to the building and then back to Kara. "Split the marines into three teams. Two head into the building for a recon and sweep while the third remains behind with the group. Sweep the whole building. Anywhere someone might be able to hide, you check. If you do find anyone, hold them for questioning. They might have information that might be helpful. Got it?" He looked over to Cameron. "Bourne leads one team, Melo leads the second, and I'll stay here to run the marines that stay here."

"Understood" Cameron said, turning to the rest of the group, "Alright, I want two teams of at least three. Team one will consist of myself, you and you" he said, pointing to two of the marines, "team two will consist of Melo, Kushner and you. The rest shall stay behind to cover the civilians under mr popularity here" he said, nodding towards Damion, "any objections? Any complaints? Hold onto them until we're off this planet. Weapons on stun only, of your weapon dosn't have a stun setting, shoot to disable, not to kill. Alright, teams one and two, let's move"

Kara nodded. "Come on." She signaled to Kushner and Melendez and headed out.

They went around the far side of the building and into the back entrance. Fortunately, they saw no one. But there were shouts and noises coming from inside. Sounded like whoever was inside was in a bit of a rush. For what, they had yet to find out.

Cameron's team made it's way to the nearest window. Stretching up to pear inside, all he could make out we're three shadowy figures moving about. Taking a quick breath, he knelt back down, "Ok I can only see three inside, but there could be as many as 20. Keep your guard up" he said, as he lead his group around to the opposite side of the busing from Kara's team.

Kara motioned for her team to stop while she listened to a conversation inside.

"Power's still out," a frustrated male said.

"Didn't you hear the rumors? There was an explosion in the mine. Rules say we sit tight and let the gorillas inside gas the workers. I'm not gonna get in the middle of that. I was on duty yesterday when the fighting started," a deeper, male voice added.

"I was in the tower. Bosses want them to fight it out for a while. Get rid of the more aggressive ones first, then go in with the gas and stunners," the first man said.

"Stupid move, if you ask me. Makes 'em think they have a chance."

"I wonder how many will make a break for it? Prisoners and guards?" the deeper voice said. "Won't do 'em any good. No way off this rock without a ship. Come on, I have a bottle of scotch. It'll help ass the time."

The two moved away and Kara looked at Maria and Trent. Was it worth it to go further or should they report what they'd learned? Trent would vote to go in. He was a little reckless, but he was a good Marine. Maria would do what she was told.

Kara signaled for them to pull back. She looked over to the nearby cliffs. That had distinct possibilities. Could there be a cave they could hide in? At least until they figured out what to do?

Trent, true to form, let out a quiet sigh loud enough for Kara to hear but no one else. He wouldn't argue her decision, though, as it was her right to lead them. With nothing more than a shared look he turned to follow Maria out.

Kara told Damion what she found. "I'd like to take my team and look for caves in the cliffs."

Damion looked over to Kara sharply. He smirked slightly as he imagine the amount of chaos he would rain down upon the guards in the barracks, but his mind snapped back as he attempted to control himself. "Do it and report back. We are gonna need a good place to regroup and plan."

Kara nodded and slipped into the darkness, followed closely by Maria and Trent.

After a few moments, Camerons team returned, "by the sound of it the guards arn't that conserned about the riot. We could use that to take the building" he reported, looking back over his shoulder than back to Damion, "it's risky, but doable"
