Mission: Subjugation
[CONTINUED]
[OLD]
After a few moments, Camerons team returned, "by the sound of it the guards arn't that conserned about the riot. We could use that to take the building" he reported, looking back over his shoulder than back to Damion, "it's risky, but doable"

"Kara's unit is taking a look around for caves and what not. Since we have no means of communication with each other we are going to have to do this on instinct. Search the outside for anything resembling a power source. We want to make sure we cut off any and all communication with the guards in the complex." Damion looked over to the barracks and then back to Cameron. "If we can keep them from calling for reinforcements, it will make taking the barracks easier, but also difficult if we manage to cut out all power. Can you work without your standard equipment for that type of situation?"
"I'll do what I can, but if you get the all clear from Kara, don't wait" Cameron said, taking a rifle off one of the other marine and slinging it over his shoulder, "wish me luck" he said, turning around and running back towards the barracks.
Kara led her team carefully up an incline and to the rocky cliffs and mountain beyond the entrance to the mines. Even with the moonlight it was rough going. The ground was uneven and the shadows from the few scrawny trees and rocky outcroppings made it hard to see the ground. She missed her UV goggles. But, tough as it was, she was grateful for the moonlight.
They carefully explored each opening that could be a cave. One or two looked promising from the outside, but inside they were far too small. So, the team moved forward.
After a while they found a crevice that looked promising. Kara signaled for Trent to guard the entrance and went in with Maria.
The opening was small and hidden by a rock outcropping and a bush. A great way to hide from prying eyes. But what was more important was what it looked like on the inside.
Kara slipped in first and paused while her eyes adjusted to the darkness.
Maria came in after holding a torch she'd made from a dead branch. It wasn't much light, but it allowed the two women to have a quick look at the cave inside. It was big. Big enough to use as a base camp until they could find a way off the planet.
They extinguished the branch in the dirt and went back to report to the others
Torchwood
"What ships are guarding that mine?" Jourdan asked looking at the crew.
"There's just one," Lizzie replied.
"Well let's blow it up and move on." Marek said though he knew it was just all talk.
"And get captured like last time?" Jourdan said. "No, we're in no shape to fight" she said. She put her chin in between her thumb and index finger for a few seconds.
"I think I've got it!" she said. "Modify the phaser banks. We're not going to blow it up, but we're going to disable its sensors and weapons" she said.
"Full power to shields and phasers" Jourdan ordered.
"Or as full as we can get, considering this ship's been dead for decades."
"It's less dead then the Von Braun." Maddison countered. "Weapons up. I think. Shields are... uh... up. I think."
"When they're disabled. Boost all power to transporters and emergency transporters. We have one shot at this! When that ship is out of the way lets beam our people up!"
"Now's your chance to show us what a great shot you are," Maria said to Maddisson.
"Not to worry." Maddison said, with a nod. "I don't miss. Let's get this party started."
"Whatever power we have has been pretty much syphoned from the rest of the ships systems. It might get a little cold in here when the fighting starts." Allen said as he monitored the power distribution network.
"Better than getting too hot," Maria replied. "As in, I'd rather it be a little cold than blow up."
"Actually, an explosion in space would be cold, after about a minute, when the vacuum of space withdrew our lifeless corpses from this ship." Maddison said, cheerfully.
"Yes, but we're likely to be fried first," Maria insisted.
Several minutes later...
"We're about to find out. Everyone, hold your breath."
Planetside
Kara and her team arrived back where the others waited. "We found a good cave. It's close enough to keep an eye on the mines and far enough away to keep out of trouble."
As she spoke she could hear the sound of a large number of people exiting the mine. "Might be a good idea to go there now. Where's Cam?"
Just then, there was a small explosion at the back of the barracks. A few seconds later, the lights inside the building flickered and died. Soon after, Cam ran back to the group, "well, that was fun. They shouldn't be talking with anyone anytime soon"
"Excellent. I suggest we get to the cave and decide what to do there. I really don't want to get caught by that crowd." She nodded to the prisoners beginning to emerge from the entrance to the mine.
"Agreed. I think discretion is the greater part of valor at this point. At least we know they can't call for backup."
Kara nodded. "Let's go." She led the group as quickly and quietly as she could up the hill and to the cave. Fortunately for them the other prisoners were more interested in confronting the guards who'd come out to see why their power was off than to pay attention to a small group of prisoners going up the hill towards the cliffs.
Once they entered the cave the Marines quicly set a watch. "No lights tonight. Too dangerous. Tomorrow, when we can see better, we'll set up camp."
