"Report" said Montgomery as the ship dropped out of warp.
The operations officer tapped some buttons on the console, "We're at the co-ordinates you specified Commander, but I'm not showing any ships in the area".
"Science can you get me a better analysis?"
Sam began searching for residual traces of warp signatures and tachyon emissions. There weren't ships here now, but she wanted to know what was here, and maybe where it went. After a minute she found what she was looking for. "There were ships here. At least one was cloaked. A ship or ships warped in or out within the last day or two. There doesn't seem to be any debris indicating the remnants of a ship. So whatever sent the distress call left here, or was towed away." She next began searching all the planets in the area. The missing ship could have gone to one of them. Or it could be hiding behind one of them.
Nartu was busy at his station, securing defense protocols and the like. "Shields are ready, if needed, sir".
Sheridan leaned back in his chair, "Well I guess we need to look around and see what turns up" He looked over to Captain Montgomery.. Sheridan Waved Warrant Finny the ships Yeoman over, She stepped over to his chair. "Yes sir."
"Dana could you get down to Stellar Cartography and Let Ensign Simm's know he needs to keep up on this situation. I know he's busy down there, Tell him I'll stop by later for a briefing."
Finney was gone in a flash...
The XO had a concerned look on his face, "Lieutenant Brooks, Lets get a Razor launched for some coverage, I believe Ensign Keller will be standing by. Let me know when he's ready."
"Aye Commander" Chris responded tapping a message on his console to Ensign Keller on standby in Shuttle Bay one.
Chris received confirmation over his panel from the Shuttle Bay Flight Control. "Razor 1, call sign 'Firefly' ready for departure."
"Well done Brooks, Launch your sortie and advise Firefly he's weapons free for a CAP 3 mission."
Sheridan Glanced at the watch Officer, "Notify lieutenant Raine to have an assault squad report to the shuttle bay and stand by."
"Aye, Aye."
Chris tapped more commands on his console. "Acknowledged, Firefly is clear of Shuttle Bay. He is now monitoring our frequency if you wish to make contact. Firefly is beginning a standard flight pattern."
"Lets get this over with as soon as possible, I doubt theres anything to find that our sensors havn't already turned up. My money's on that Warp trail, Sam I need to know where they've gone asap. Use the scouts to extend the range of the sensors if it helps." The CO was reveling in the possibility of a mystery to be solved but there was the nagging at the back of his mind that there was the distinct possiblility that the barely finished ship and skeleton crew may end up neck deep in somthing that they wern't quite ready for.
"I've got it, sir. The warp trail. At least, I have which way it headed." Sam pulled up a display on the science screen. "A ship warped in from here, and left heading this way." She indicated the direction on the screen. "From the trail, it could have been towing something when it left. Possibly another ship. As there are no remnants of the missing ship, it's safe to assume it was taken away." She pulled up more data. "One of the warp signatures entering in the area matches the missing ship. It did not, however, warp out."
"Lieutenant Brooks, lets get that fighter back in, and set a course. XO, see if you can get an answer from Starfleet on some backup.
Sheridan watched as the fighters were recovered in excellent time. The heading and course were on the screen. "Lets continue. Helm plot a parallel course and follow lieutenant York's track."
