Ted was directiing some engineers as they moved some pool tables on the second level. It was very hard, back-breaking work. He set the last one down and looked down at the bar; a woman was walking towards the bar. Ted got a round of drinks for the engineers and headed downstairs. He stepped behind the bar just as the woman started looking around for a waiter. It was Sam.
Ted smiled. "Hello, Sam. How are you doing today?"
"Very well, thank you," she replied. "How are you today?"
Ted nodded. "I'm doing good." He looked up and pointed at the second level. "We're installing some pool tables and dart boards if you ever want to try your luck in here."
"I played pool a few times as a kid, but it's been years. I'll have to give it a try some time," Sam said, looking up to the second level.
Ted grinned. "Maybe it's time you took it up again. They'll be here for as long as I'm here. What would you like to drink this time? Orange juice? Icoberry juice? Grape juice? Apple juice?" A thought visibly occured to Ted. "I have a shipment of moba fruit juice from Bajor if you're interested."
"I'll try the moba fruit juice," Sam replied.
Turner smiled and picked up a juice glass from behind the bar and took a pitcher of purple liquid and poured it into the glass. He pushed it towards her. "You're the first one to try any, so I'm curious to know what it tastes like. Sometimes the fruit and the juice don't taste anything like."
"You haven't tried it yourself?" she asked with a raise eyebrow. She took a sip. It was quite good.
Ted shook his head. "Not allowed to drink it before the customers. If it's not selling really well, I can take it home, but I have to buy it like everyone else."
"And here I thought you'd have to sample the goods from time to time to be sure they haven't spoiled."
Ted nodded. "I do, but not after they've first been opened, coming straight from stasis." He picked up the bottle and patted it. "This baby has been in here for a few hours only."
"You have a point," she replied, taking another sip of her drink.
Ted watched her carefully. "And how is it? It can't be too bad if you're still drinking it."
"It's good," Sam said. "I like it."
Ted nodded. "And since a customer has already tried it, I think I can safely sample it without losing my job." He took a tumbler from behind the counter and poured two fingers in the glass. He looked at the juice; it was purple in color, somewhere lost between royal purple and lavender. He sipped it. It was sweet, with a hint of spice in it. He nodded. "It is pretty good. Now I just have to conceal the fact that I tried it after only one customer." He smiled. "So what's been going on in the science department? No Greyhawks in there?"
"No Greyhawks. No problems, really. Things are going smoothly. Now we just have to figure out what's going on with the missing ship."
Ted frowned. "Missing ship? That doesn't sound good."
"We'll find it," she said, shrugging. She finished her drink. "Thanks for the drink, Ted. And the conversation."
Ted nodded. "Anytime, Sam. You should stop on by for dinner. The special for dessert is a new chocolate cake Toras has come up with."
Sam grinned. "I'll have to do that. Maybe I'll bring along a friend..."
Ted's eyes suddenly had a twinkle in them. He knew what kind of friend she was talking about. "Bring him along. It's definitely worth a few hours in the gym, trust me." He picked up the two glasses. "See you tonight, Sam."
"Only if I can talk him into it," she said with a chuckle. "See you soon, Ted."
Ted watched her go, thinking that that girl will go far.
