Mission: The Race for the Lost Treasure
ON
The shuttle landed on the planet without incident. So far there was no sign of any pirates or pirate activity.
"Okay, let's have a good look at these ruins," Sam said to the others.
Marek picked out his tricorder from his belt and opened it. His mind started to play tricks on him. What will they find? Will they make a technological discovery that could disrupt or promote quadrant life.
Doctor Hart took his backpack and followed the crewmembers out of the shuttlecraft. He wondered what they will find.
Sam waited until everyone arrived outside the shuttle, ready to go. "I'd like to examine the circumference of the ruins first, then dissect it until we find what we're looking for." Although she wasn't sure what she was looking for. She had a copy of the map and the computer could read the language, but that didn't mean she knew what to find once she got to the planet.
Jason looked around, keeping his distance from the ruins to give the scientist room to explore the area. He opened his medical tricorder to scan for any lifeform.
Noelle stepped off the shuttle and took a guard stance to provide cover for the away team as they began heading toward the ruins.
The ruins only covered a few kilometers so they were able to walk around it in a relatively short period of time. They found a number of buildings in advanced stages of decay. Most were rubble and not worth looking through at this time, so the group continued on. When they'd made a full circle, Sam made a few notes before looking at the others. "Now let's cut through the middle and see if there's anything of interest in the heart of this place."
Doctor Hart followed the Captain, keeping his eyes on the tricorder that appears to be doing funny things. The lights in the instrument kept flickering and he hit it with the palm of his hand to see if it would stop. It did for awhile. He wasn't sure to say anything yet as he is giving the instrument a little time to correct itself.
Noelle looked at Dr. Hart "Is there a problem with your equipment Doctor?" She asked watching the area around her and looking at her own equipment to ensure that it was functioning properly.
Jason looked up at the female marine officer who is standing near-by. He frowned, "it looks to me like it is either malfunctioned or it is the planet causing it." He closed the instrument and opened it again, still not running properly. "How is your instrument?" he wondered.
Noelle looked at her weapon "It seems to be working okay, but it doesn't have the same capabilities as yours. Mine is a simple weapon, point and shoot." She said lightly as she looked around her keeping an eye on the Captain.
Sam found that she could still record small bits of information at a time, but she couldn't get any real readings. "Strange. Okay, let's see what we can find." She tapped her combadge. "York to Daniels. Can you detect any anomalous readings over our location?"
"Ma'am, I read an unusually high concentration of ferrous, and other useful minerals in your immediately surrounding area. The temperature is a balmy 24 degrees celsius, with a light wind from the north, at 2 Kilometres an hour. Beyond that, I've got not a single anomalous reading, all day." Daniels said, in a somewhat bored tone of voice.
"Lovely, Ensign Daniels. Thank you," Sam's amused voice replied.
Doctor Hart listened to the comm, hearing Daniels voice saying: "Ma'am, I read an unusually high concentration of ferrous, and other useful minerals in your immediately surrounding area. The temperature is a balmy 24 degrees celsius, with a light wind from the north, at 2 Kilometres an hour. Beyond that, I've got not a single anomalous reading, all day." There was a pause and the surgeon's voice stated: "This is Doctor Valdez, I am reading a few lifesigns...looks like 4 ahead of you by 15.24 meters. Beyond this, I don't know yet."
Jason put away the tricorder, putting it into a holder on his belt. Then, he heard Daniels spoke again, "Two bears, something reminiscent of a chicken, and a weasel...correct that. Three life signs. Two bears, and a weasel. Nature can be cruel."
Jason frowned and shook his head.
Sam had to laugh at that. "Yes, Ensign Daniels, it can. Our instruments are fluctuating so be advised that we may lose contact temporarily. York out."
Not for the first time, Sam wished Damon were with her. It wasn't the same with out him. The enthusiasm she felt before for this treasure hunt was gone. She'd never felt like this about uncovering the past before. It was disconcerting.
She missed him terribly, even though he'd only been gone a few days. Something about needing his particular expertise as both a Marine Colonel and a Commander... Please come back soon, she sent to whatever god was listening. She took a deep breath and continued looking for anything out of the ordinary.
They found a large building in the center of the ruins that was more intact than the others. The walls were crumbling, but all four still stood. The door -- or what used to be the door -- was now a pile of wood and rubble.
Sam pulled out her tricorder and began to scan. It wasn't working. She tapped her combadge. "York to Lancaster. Are you having instrument problems?"
Nothing. She tapped again. "York to Calypso."
All she got back was static. "Okay, there's definitely something around here causing interference. Let's check out this building. If we don't find anything, we'll go back to the shuttle and try contacting the ship from there."
