1,087 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Shades of Gray
Location: Transporter Room One

19 hours of cramped shuttle travel left Levue annoyed. She was grumpy. A grumpy Levue was not a good way to introduce one's self.

The file on her PADD didn't help, either. An Internal Affairs report.

As she materialized on the Calypso's transporter pad, she gradually became aware of those present to greet her.

A taller white male, she recognized immediately. He was, after all, in her file.

A Vulcan male. He appeared to be wearing medical garments. This was not acceptable. It would be remedied. Immediately.

A well groomed gentleman. He stood rather close to a woman in an aquatic field generator. She recognized a married couple, easily enough. Especially this one. She'd read the personnel files. Ensigns Tyler.

Several other Security Officers, and even a few of the SCIS agents were present. Perfect. Time to make an entrance. And a statement.

---------------------------------------

"Lieutenant Junior Grade Cassandra Levue?" Ensign Daniels asked.

"Yes." Cassandra said, with a slightly sharp look at Daniels. "And you are Ensign Daniel Daniels."

Daniels nodded. "I hereby transfer command of USS Calypso's Security and tactical staff, and their related sub-departments, to you, pending your Command code. Computer, recognize Ensign Daniel Daniels, acting Chief Security and Tactical Officer. Code 8 Alpha Daniel Daniel 4."

"Code recognized." The computer noted.

"Transfer all Section Chief related access codes to Lieutenant Junior Grade Cassandra Levue." Daniels stated.

"Voiceprint, and authorization code required." The Computer noted.

"Lieutenant Junior Grade Cassandra Levue." Cassandra said.

"Voiceprint recognized." The Computer noted.

"Authorization Code Levue Alpha gamma one one." Cassandra said.

"Authorization code accepted. Chief Security and Tactical Officer codes accepted, and transferred." The Computer noted.

Now, the switch. Cassandra thought to herself. She eyed each individual, carefully.

"SCIS Agent Donovan, am I correct in assuming that you are now the Supervisory Agent, as per Ensign Daniels' paperwork entry, this morning?" Cassandra asked.

Donovan nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

"This is from internal affairs. An undisclosed officer has filed a report on then Supervisory Agent, and Acting Chief Security Officer Daniel Daniels, for dereliction of duty, willful endangerment of civilian, and federation assets, and overlooking overly excessively aggressive actions, made by their superior officers, Jaxara, Lorne, and Kyt, Tramira. You will review this case, and tell me whether or not you, as Acting Supervisory Agent, agree with my, and Internal Affairs' decision to relieve Ensigns Daniel Daniels, and Stran, of active duty, pending jurisdictional conflict review, psychological review, and criminal actions review. This case will also encompass, and posthumously try Lieutenants Jaxara, and Kyt, in their absence, of such accusations." Cassandra said.

The room froze. It was eerily quiet. Even the transporter operator was stunned.

Until Donovan spoke.

"I do not require a review of this case." Donovan stated.

"Why is that, Deputy Marshal?" Cassandra asked.

"I am the UC on duty, who filed this report." Donovan stated.

Daniels snapped his head, to look at her, shocked.

"Very well. According to regulations, you, as a civilian authority, cannot arrest Ensign Daniels." Cassandra said. "You can, however, press charges, once he is arrested for Starfleet Regulation related infringements."

She approached Daniels, and drew her hip holstered phaser. "Ensign Daniel Daniels, you are hereby charged with dereliction of Starfleet duties, regarding the safety, and security of this vessel, in your position as Acting Assistant Chief of Security. You have the right to remain silent. You have the right to have a JAG attorney present. You have the right to a fair, unbiased trial. Do you understand these rights, as they have been read to you?"

Daniels stumbled for words for a few moments, before nodding. "Yes, ma'am."

"Deputy Marshal Donovan, please escort Mister Daniels to the brig, pending administrative, psychological, and jurisdictional reviews. In a moment." Cassandra said.

"Yes, Miss Levue." Donovan said, with a nod.

Cassandra noted the lack of title. She refrained from commenting. As the only civilian member of the Security department, that was Donovan's right. She was here as a Federation Marshal services representative, protecting federation assets. And she was doing a good job. "Ensign Stran."

"Ma'am." The Vulcan said, with a nod.

"You are clearly not cleared for medical discharge, based on the fact that your clothing is not Uniform standard. Do you deny this?" Cassandra demanded.

"No, ma'am. When Lieutenant Kyt called the Security department, for a Security meeting, the only acceptable excuse was being deceased, or unconscious, for not showing up." Stran said.

"I am not Lieutenant Kyt." Cassandra clarified. "Restricted to Medical Facilities, until medical clearance, Psychological review, and administrative review is completed. You are also hereby charged with Starfleet regulation infringement, regarding leaving assigned medical care, without appropriate discharge, and willing dereliction of duty, endangering Federation, Starfleet, and Civilian assets. You are hereby under arrest-"

"I am aware of my rights." Stran said, saving her the time.

"Miss Donovan, if you please." Cassandra said.

"Yes, Miss Levue." Donovan said, with a nod. She placed restraints on both Daniels, and Stran, and used her laser pistol, as she wasn't authorized to carry a proper phaser, to escort Daniels and Stran out of the Transporter room.

"The rest of you are dismissed. Remember what occurred here, and think about why I introduced myself this way, and what you can do to prevent it from occurring again. I expect each of you to have, written for me, tomorrow morning, at 0800 hours, a five thousand word essay, about this incident, and why you believe it occurred. It will include any, and all, actions you may have done, or through inaction, may have caused, or permitted to occur, which may be construed as criminal offenses. Should you refuse, and I decide otherwise, the consequences of such plausible offenses will be taken out of my, and the Captain of this vessel's hands, and placed into JAG, SCIS, and the Federation Marshal Service's hands. Are we clear?" Cassandra asked.

"Yes ma'am." Came the uniform reply.

"Dismissed. Back to any duties you may have, which aren't against regulations. If any of you suspect that your assigned tasks may be against regulations, please bring your suspicions to me, and I will review, and revise your duty assignments, as necessary." Cassandra said.

There were nods, and the room vacated. Rather quickly.

She looked to the Transporter Chief.

"Notify the bridge, Lieutenant Junior Grade Levue is aboard, and will be reporting to the Captain momentarily." Cassandra instructed him.

Then, she left the transporter room.
