Mission:
Shades of Gray
Location: Conference Room, Deck 2
Timeline: Current
[Conference Room]

"If at all possible," Damon started "I think it would also be a good idea to employ our fighters in recon runs over our AO. If the government is tight lipped despite our help I would think it prudent to start piecing together our own picture."
[NEW]
"I agree. Randy, I want you and your team to do a low-orbit recon of the planet before we send anyone down," Sam said. "The Calypso will do a detailed scan as well. We need to monitor communications, talk to the planetary government. Then we'll at least know more of what we're getting ourselves into."
"I will endeavor to leave audio receiver devices, where I believe it prudent. Other Security Officers will be likewise ordered, provided they aren't obnoxiously obvious about it." Stran said, nodding.
"Let's find out what we're dealing with before we consider such steps, Ensign. As far as we know, this is a cut-and-dried humanitarian aid mission," Sam said. Then she looked round the room. "Are there any other questions or comments?"
"It would not be logical to predict events, without further data." Stran said. "I am merely preparing for unexpected events."
Sam knew what sort of trouble that could lead to. "How about we plan for all contingencies, but prepare only when we know what we're facing?" It was less a question than a statement.
"I would guess," Leo said looking to the Captain. "Marines are not allowed deadly force unless fired upon or bombed first? Or any force really?"
"Captain, if I may... I am hesitant sign on to any weapons at our first meeting. It sends the wrong message. If indeed this is merely a humanitarian mission." Preston added.
"I will take the obligatory security issue with that." Stran said, "And voice Kyt's appropriate response."
He looked briefly down at the unconscious woman. "You can be a humanitarian all you bloody well want. Security, nor Marine officers, are leaving this ship without weapons, and, according to regulations, no Starfleet Officer leaves this ship without a security, or marine escort, unless on leave."
"And when exactly was the last time you resolved a situation without physical force?" Preston quizzed.
"Precisely 2 days ago, on the planet Mithraeli." Stran countered. "Perhaps you should read our previous mission notations, and section notes, prior to making crude commentary about our efficiency. I am fairly certain Lieutenant Kyt will wish to discuss any further comments, at a later date."
Shaking his head, Preston continued. "So YOU personally weren't responsible for the successful resolution? So the question remains..."
"To the contrary." Stran noted. "I was the one who decided it prudent to attempt to mind-meld with a tree, thus proving that the Trees were sentient creatures."
Stran looked to Damon, and Samantha. He pondered, briefly, whether or not, this mission advisor, needed similar treatment to his section chief, but refrained from further comment, or action.
"This isn't a forum for fighting, gentlemen." Damon remarked. "Let's get back on track here."
"Appreciated." Stran mouthed to Damon, inaudibly.
"Stran was the one to figure out the trees were telepathic Wexler," Leo said speaking up again. "As for no weapons, thats insane. I'm not sending my men down on a humanitarian mission that may or may not disolve into fighting. The weapons would, for the most part, show that we are willing to defend ourselves and others, but by not firing them, we show restraint. There are countless area's of history that show when a team goes planetside bringing aide, they ahd best have weapons to make sure the bullies don't try and take it from them."
"I said nothing about going down without weapons, Captain Mangalia. I said we aren't going to prepare to bug the planet. I know the regulations. Specific details will be discussed later."
"Your precise words, Lieutenant Commander Wexler, were 'you were hesitant to bring weapons to the first meeting.' At no time, did you mention any issue with audio-reception devices." Stran countered.
"Your concerns are valid Commander." Damon said with a look to Preston. "But if there really is a problem wih the black market on this planet I don't want our supplies ending up on it."
He turned to look at Samantha. "A small group to guard the supplies and our medical teams should be enough to keep looters at bay." He suggested.
Sam reached her hand under the table and squeezed Damon's hand in gratitude. "Agreed." She looked around again. "Anything else?"
"I have one ma'am" chichire said looking at Sam with some concern. "may I recommend that at least one group of marines and/or security stay on Q.R.F. why we are doing such a mission ma'am"
"I wouldn't have a problem with that, but lets make sure that they're evenly distributed between Marines and Security." Leo said looking at his Corporal. Then looking at Noelle he smiled evilly. "Lieutenant, how do you feel about some quick deployment?"
"Security does not have the properly trained personnel, and the Marines do, Marine Captain." Stran noted. "We do not have to collaborate on everything, though the forced inclusion is appreciated by Lieutenant Kyt. Once she awakens, and is told of it."
"We can discuss this further later," Sam said. "For now, we have a lot to do. Meeting is adjurned."
