Samantha needed to have another look at the science station on the bridge.

As she walked out of the turbolift, she noticed someone new on the bridge as well.

She walked over to him. "Hi."

Chris was standing at his station helping a crewman with diagnostics. He extended his hand to give her a handshake as he smiled. "Hello, I'm Chris Brooks, your new Chief Flight Ops. Nice to meet you."

"Samantha York, Chief Science Officer," she replied, shaking his hand.

Chris smiled. "Chief Science Officer , that sounds interesting. Well, Samantha, would you mind if I called you Sam? What got you into Science?"

"Sam is fine," she said. "What got me into science? I think I've always been drawn to history. It wasn't far from that to archaeology. So, I guess you could say I've always been interested in science."

Chris thought for a moment. "Well for me, I came from a Star Fleet family. I have always been around ships and enjoy flying them. I use to fly the Valkyrie fighters. Now that was pure fun. I really miss it, but not too much. Every once in a while I will go to the holodeck and load a combat simulation that I created. It feels like the real thing. So, if you ever want to get your pants scared off of you, let me know and I will take you in for the ride of your life."

"I will definitely do that some time. It sounds interesting. And I'd much rather get scared on the holodeck than over a planet," Sam replied. "What other things do you like to do?"

Chris thought for a moment, "Just about anything you can think of. Music, Movies, Dancing, Anything outdoors, Piano, Guitar......oh boy, there are others that I can't think of right now, I'm sure." What about you? What does Sam like to do besides Science?" Chris looked at Sam intently.

"Rock climbing, mountain climbing, paintball. I like to dance as well: swing and ballroom, though. I camp when I can." Sam shrugged. "Nothing out of the ordinary."

Chris smiled. "I have done all that and enjoy pretty much all. I like the Fox Trot and Tango. We need to get together and have some fun sometime. Perhaps you would like to have a drink sometime?"

"Sure. It'll be nice to dance with a real person for a change. Most of my dancing of late has been on the holodeck" she explained.

Chris chuckled, "We can fix that. Whenever you feel like dancing, just let me know and I will be there. I haven't been in a long time because I refuse to dance with a hologram. I have to feel warmth and spirit coming from the other side for me to enjoy myself."

"An interesting way of looking at it," she said. "I don't mind usually. Freddy's a good dancer, and he's familiar with my technique."

Chris looks at Sam with a puzzled look, "Who is Freddy?"

"Freddy is my holographic partner. He's the guy I dance with on the holodeck. He's pretty good, but there's just that bit of difference between him and real person."

Chris looked at her for a moment, "If you are not doing anything tomorrow night, would you like to have dinner and do some dancing? I really don't like being in my quarters by my self and I could use the company."

Sam considered his offer. "Okay." It would be nice to dance with someone other than Freddy for a change.

Chris flashed a smile. "Tomorrow night at 6pm, my quarters for dinner? Or would you prefer more public place to eat first?"

"Either is fine," she replied. It wouldn't matter much as they would spend most of the time dancing.

"Okay, my quarters for dinner then off to the holodeck for dancing unless they have a place to dance in the lounge?" Chris asked.

"I don't know. I haven't checked it out yet," Sam had to admit.

"No problem, we can stick to the holodeck for now. Perhaps we can check on that another time. Drinks can add to the fun." Chris replied

"Let's start with dancing tomorrow and see where we go from there?" Sam said with a chuckle. She wanted to see what kind of dance partner he was before she agreed to any future dancing.

"I'll see you tomorrow," she said as she turned and headed for the science station.

"Tomorrow then." Chris watched Sam move to her post before he sat down at his console and continued the diagnostics. Chris thought to himself. ~This is an interesting ship, with intriguing people~
