Samantha was still wandering around the Marine Deck when she saw the First Sergeant in the corridor. "Hi," she said as she got closer to him.

"Good afternoon Ma'am," Hawkes saluted. Bella soon wandered over and sat at LT York's feet. "This is the Company mascot Bella." He indicated to the wolf sitting at their feet.

Sam bent down to say hi to Bella. "You're a beautiful girl, aren't you?" she said to the wolf. "How long have you had her?" she asked Hawkes.

"5 years," Hawkes begun. "I rescued her after her mother was mauled by a bear." "She's been by my side ever since, but this is our first deployment, so it's taking a bit for her to adjust. We've taught each other new signals to resolve toilet issues." He laughed. Bella gently nipped at his hand as she understood they were talking about her.

"Is this your first deployment Ma'am?" Hawkes asked, LT York was the first Starfleet member he had actually spoken to other than to order equipment from.

"No, it isn't. It's actually my second ship in a row to join during a refit. I enjoyed my last assignment very much, and I hope this is a good sign for the Orion."

"The way she's been refit and equipped, I don't think there is anything the Orion can't handle Ma'am."

"I agree with you, Gunny. She's a beautiful ship, isn't she?"

"Alot better than some of the old hunkers i've served on, that's for sure." Hawkes smirked. "Gotta run ma'am, I have a Self Defence class to teach." Hawkes stood at attention and saluted. "Catch you another time ma'am." and he was off, Bella running close beside him.
