[USS Salvation - Marine Gym]
Sergeant Tate stepped off the lift heading down the long corridor towards the Marine Gym. He was dressed in the Marine PT gear and ready for the morning workout session. This was his routine every morning. He preferred to work out without any distractions. That's why he would often get up at least an hour before anyone else and get his work out session in just as everyone else was walking up and making their way down to the gym.
The gym doors opened as he approached them. He was ready to give the command for the computer to increase the brightness of the lights as they were dimmed when no one was in but this morning they were already at their normal brightness. That was his first sign that this morning he would not be alone in the gym. The second was the noise of gloves hitting the punching bag in the next area.
He frowned not completely trilled to be sharing the gym but there wasn't anything he could do about it. He decided to go on with his normal routine and began to stretch out before doing anything cardio or strength wise.
Maxwell stretched for approximately five minutes and in that time whoever was at the punching bag continued to beat on it without taking any break. His curiosity was beginning to wonder who was at the bag. He decided to find out. So as he finished his stretching he wondered over to the next area. To his surprise it was Major Magnus.
She hadn't seen him yet as her back was to the entrance into the area. She was dressed in the Marine PT gear as well however hers was more reviling than his. She had on a tank top and a short pair of shorts. He stood watching her for a few moments without saying anything.
"Good morning, Sergeant Tate." Major Magnus said without looking back.
Maxwell chuckled. She knew that it was him without even looking back. "Good morning, Major."
She punched the bag a couple of more times before stopping. She turned around to face him and smiled. She was sweaty so she took off her gloves and reached for her towel and water bottle.
Maxwell had returned the smile before heading over to the treadmill. He had never seen the Major in here even when it wasn't this early.
"Would you be interested in a sparring session?" Major asked him as he was walking towards the treadmill. She had a lot of build up frustration that she just needed to get out. The punching bag helped but it didn't fight back. She needed someone willing to fight back. She knew if she asked anyone from her unit that they would go easy on her in a sense or be hesitant because she was the commanding officer.
Maxwell turned around facing the Major. He thought about it for a moment than nodded. "Sure. I'll spar with you Major." It wasn't part of his usual morning workout but he wasn't opposed to the idea. It could prove to be very interesting.
"Follow me." Major said and headed out of the area with a bottle of water in one hand and a towel in the other. There was an area in the gym that was designed especially for sparring.
Maxwell nodded and fell in close behind her. Each Marine Gym was different. It all depended on the size of the ship. The bigger the ship the bigger the gym was with various areas.
Major Magnus walked up to a seat of doors and pushed them open. They found themselves inside a room that had a padded floor and at least a meter of the wall was covered in pads. On one side of the door there was a bench and on the other a stand with gloves and head gear.
"No gloves or head gear." Major said. She dropped her water and towel on the bench and headed towards the center of the room stretching a little as she stopped in the middle.
Maxwell nodded and did the same. He put his stuff on the bench and followed her to the center of the room. He was surprised that she didn't want to wear anything. But it was her gym and her rules.
She turned towards him and took a fighting stance. Maxwell did the same. The two of them begin to circle looking at each other waiting to see who was going to be the one to make the first move.
It didn't take long for Helen to make the first move. She attempted to punch Maxwell but he jumped out of the way. She grinned at him. He returned the grin.
Helen was feeling aggressive this morning so she attempted to punch him a couple of more times. Maxwell barely dodged the punches but he did counter. His fist made contact with her cheek. It knocked her to the ground.
It was a surprise to him. He didn't expect it to be so powerful to where it knocked her to the ground. "Major, are you alright?" He asked as he leaned down to help her up.
Helen was as surprised as he was that he actually landed a punch. She cracked her jaw. She didn't respond to his question but as she noticed him leaning down to help her she saw an opening and using her foot she kicked his feet out from under him and brought him down to the ground. She rolled over and on top of him.
Maxwell didn't expect that sudden move. Before he was able to react she was on top of him.
"You left yourself open." She said with a grin on her face. She attempted to punch at his side as he attempted to guard.
That was true. He did leave himself open to that one. She attempted to roll over to one side but it didn't work, so he tried the other side but her full weight was pressing him down. He rocked back and forth a few times. He caught her off balance and rolled over to the side knocking her off him.
Helen attempted to recover quickly but before she could Maxwell was on top of her pinning her down to the ground. She hissed at him. She would have tried the same thing he did but he was heavier than she was so it wouldn't work. She quickly brought her legs up and onto his chest and pushed back. She caught him off balance and knocked him onto his back.
Both of them rolled to a side and got up on their feet. She had a grin on her face. "You aren't too bad."
"Neither are you, Major." Maxwell returned the compliment.
Both of them were breathing heavy at this point but she wasn't ready to give up. She was enjoying herself far too much to just give it up now. She smiled at him taking a few steps back.
Maxwell watched unsure of what she was planning next but he was ready for whatever it was. At least he thought he was ready.
She reached the other side of the room then started to run towards him. As she got closer she put her arms up above her head. She leaned down planting her hands onto the ground flipping her legs upwards and wrapping them around his neck. She than twisted her legs in such a way that he did a flip before landing on the ground. She ended up on top of him sitting on his chest.
Maxwell had no idea what had just happened. He was totally taken by a surprise with that move.
"My mother wanted me to be a gymnast, but I preferred to play with guns." Helen said looking down at him.
Maxwell looked to his chest to where she was sitting than up at her with a grin. "Well, that would explain it."
She had noticed him looking. She just smiled. And before she could say anything she had found herself on her back pinned to the ground again. Her legs were pinned against his side by his arms as he looked at her. "Now you left yourself open Major."
"But so did you." She responded and her elbow met his face. It met it a couple of times. His gripped loosened on her legs and she quickly pulled them out pressing them on his chest and pushed him off her. She jumped up and didn't give him a moment to catch his breath as she went in for the attack again. She pushed him up against the wall with her forearm resting against his neck. She pressed her body weight on him as she held him pressed to the wall.
Maxwell took a second to recover and collect himself. She was quick but he was stronger still. He looked down at her with a grin on his face. He quickly placed one of his feet behind her foot and used his body weight to push her off him. She fell backwards onto the floor.
He quickly moved over to her. She dropped down by her resting his knee on her chest and applying a bit of pressure as she laid there.
She grabbed his knee but couldn't do anything as every time she tried to struggle he applied more pressure. She tried this a few times and each time he crushed more. She had a way out of it but it would be inappropriate so instead she tapped on his knee.
He nodded and released her. He sat down by her as she attempted to catch her breath. After a couple of minute she sat up and looked at him shaking her head. "You cheated."
He looked at her surprised. "How did I cheat?"
"You just did." She said in return. She got up from the floor and extended her hand.
Maxwell looked up at her and took it. She helped him up, but before he could do anything else she moved her foot behind his and pushed him back. She jumped on him and pressed her knee on his cheek. She looked down at him and winked. "I hate to lose, Sergeant." Helen said before releasing him and sitting on his chest looking down at him.
Maxwell looked up at her. "I will keep that in mind."
She leaned down closer to him and whispered into his ear. "Good, you really should." Then she rolled off him once again and stood up. She extended her hand to him once again.
Maxwell looked up at her. He wasn't about to fall for the same trick twice.
"Don't worry, I mean it this time." Helen responded with a chuckle.
Maxwell accepted her hand and she helped him up. She then headed over to her stuff grabbing her towel and water. "I am having breakfast at 0600. I would like you to be there."
Maxwell nodded. "Understood, Major."
She smiled at him and headed out.
Maxwell headed out of the gym not long after she did. He had found the sparring fun, but he was in a bit of a pain for the punches and also the kicks that he received from the Major.
