Personal History | The tale of Maxwell’s early life is an intriguing one. He was born on Earth, in the city of San Francisco. The year was 2345. His mother’s name is Reyna Hess, and his father’s name is Douglas Tate. His parents were not married nor were they dating. They met at a bar one night. After a few drinks the two of them had found their way to his father’s place where they spend the night together. In the morning the two of them parted ways and did not see each other until two years later when Reyna Hess, his mother showed up at his father’s foot step with a baby in her hand. She explained to him how the baby was his and that she was too young to have a child. She had her whole life ahead of her that she wanted to explore. She left Maxwell with Douglas, and disappeared from their lives. His father attempted to take care of Maxwell, but he ended up spending a lot more time at his aunt’s house than with his father. In 2348, his father received transfer orders that would take him into deep space for a long period of time. His aunt, Sandra Tate, convinced his father to leave Maxwell with her. She argued that a life aboard a starship was no life for a young child. He would be a lot better staying on Earth with her. His father agreed with his sister. Maxwell stayed behind while his father left on assignment. Maxwell grew up with his aunt and his two twin girl cousins Iris and Mia. His aunt had divorced her husband a few years earlier which meant that in a sense Maxwell was the man of the house. His aunt treated him like she was one of her own children and he treated her like she was his mother. He grew up like any other child on Earth. He went to school. He played outside. And he of course got in trouble. His father returned to Earth on several occasions but the two of them never developed a relationship. It was as if the two of them were perfect strangers to each other. After one such visit his father signed the custody rights to his aunt who was a lot closer to him than his father ever was. He was very close with his aunt and his cousins. They only had each other so they had to be close. When he became a teenager and started high school we dated a couple of girls and played almost every sport at school. His studies were average but he was an excellent athlete. During his years in high school he began to express interest in possibly joining the service. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to become Starfleet or the Marines. He had plenty of conversations with his aunt and his cousins concerning the decision. They were hesitant at first but they started to understand his reasoning for it and eventually became very supporting of what he was about to do. It was during his senior year in high school that he decided to become a Marine. He didn’t really have the skills to become an engineer or scientist but he was excellent with a pistol and rifle. So after he graduated from high school he joined the Marines and the rest is history. |
