Leo nodded and looked down. It was going to be a rough day if everything went wrong. Looking back up, the two scouts were running back, as if the hounds of hell were on their heels. "Get ready for incoming," he said simply, raising his weapon and wishing that his two best sharp shooters were in the field with him. As the two scouts slid to a stop before, and to the right, or Leo, they looked behind them, but nothing was moving.
[NEW]
"We got away before they could see us Sir." Leo looked over and lowered the barrel of his phase rifle, wondering what else they would say. "There's a ton of guards walking the perimeter. A good volley from the Caly would topple them, but there's not much we're going to be able to do without some heavy fire power."
"You may have started out unseen, but running full out like that is sure to draw attention from somewhere," Kara frowned. "You should know better than that." She took position by a corner where she'd have some cover and shouldered her phaser rifle. "Just remember, we still don't know what we're facing."
The two scouts looked abashed as they were dressed down by Kara. "Sergeant, these two numb skulls will deal with the consequences of their actions later. Right now, we have to work on gaining the ground. We currently have the high ground, lets use that to our advantage." Smiling, he looked behind him, signaling the twin heavy weapon experts up. "I want warning shots you two. Hit the wall, over their heads, but do not hit the people. If we can manage it, I want them to give up, think that we have more than enough troops for a frontal assualt, but we don't want to lose anyone. Give them a chance."
The two nodded and moved forward, then began to lay down. They aimed low, and smiled as one. Leo had never seen them work together, but it began to creep him out. He didn't like people acting like two parts of one organism, but shook away the discomfort. "Fire when ready," he ordered, propping himself up to view the damage, or possible damage that could happen.
Trent was uncomfortable with this approach, favoring stealth himself. The warning would also mean that his job would be significantly harder inside. But, he wasn't running the op right now and his comfort would have to take a backseat.
Trent looked to the Marines with him "This changes things. Once inside we are weapons free, max stun only, though, if it gets sticky use your discretion. Follow tight on me and watch our approach angles."
Leo watched as the heavy weapons fire burned into the walls and ground around the guards, making them look at the attacking position with shock. "Once they start charging, I want them taken down, stun only, so we can interrogate if needed. I want prisoners." Looking behind him he shook his head. "But I want this clean as well. I don't need anyone dying on my watch." Looking back over the ridge he shook his head as the men formed up and started walking cautiously towards the hill. "Heavy Weapons down. They're in a straight line, and easy pickings for us. "Everyone, take a position, aim carefully, and take them down."
Kara nodded and signaled to her team to get into position. "You heard the man. Stun only and don't waste your shots. We've got the upper hand. Wait for them to give you a clear shot."
Trent shook his head at the line of men approaching their position. There wasn't many, but they had made calls to the interior of the building. The mercenaries weren't walking very fast, a slow walk would be the best way to describe it, but they were giving the rest of the base time to mobilize and prepare for an assault. Their hand needed to be forced now, before they had time to fully dig in.
Trent looked over to his men who had taken up residence behind the tree line. "Sit tight guys, I'm counting on you to be faster than they are." He ignored the confused looks on their faces as he moved over to where Kara was kneeling.
"Uh, Kara?" He whispered as he closed the distance to her. "If I'm not correct, the Major clearly outlined our rules of engagement, right? So if that's the case, we need them to fire at us before we can go to work."
"That's right. They fire first. We stun them. No killing," Kara reiterated.
"Okay then." He said with a nod. He quickly turned and began heading off. Before he got too far, Trent turned to his Sergeant once again "And I'm sorry about this." He said without explanation. Before a question could be asked he had turned again and moved deep into the underbrush.
"Oh, no," Kara said to herself. This was going to be bad.
A moment or two later Trent appeared on out in the open on the far side of the clearing, well away from where the rest of the Marines had dug in. His weapon was raised and he moved cautiously towards the approaching line of mercenaries. He spotted a large boulder and stayed close to it as he moved in.
Once he was within earshot he yelled out to the approaching men "STARFLEET MARINE CORPS! THROW DOWN YOUR WEAPONS AND GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!"
The dozen or so men turned their attention from the woods and stopped in their movement. Their weapons were raised and pointed at the single soldier. They seemed unfazed by his approach.
Trent continued to stand his ground as the men moved closer. He hid the smile creeping across his face as the men moved directly into the line of site of the hidden Marines behind the forest ridge. "I SAID, GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! WE WILL BE FORCED TO SHOOT IF YOU DO NOT DISARM!"
A few of the mercenaries laughed to themselves as they regarded the soldier standing in front of them, thinking it was he alone who first engaged them. The leader of their advance group stood forward with a wicked grin painted across his face.
"I don't think we will surrender to you today Starfleet." He spat "You picked the wrong group to screw with. You should have brought backup." He lifted his weapon and lined up his sights before firing at the lone Marine.
Trent saw the attack before it happened and quickly dove behind the boulder as the mercenary fired at him. The rogue shot hit a small tree behind him and it exploded sending sharp splinters raining down on Trent as he huddled tightly behind the natural barricade. ~Gotcha~ He thought to himself as he closed his eyes tightly and shielded his face.
The answering volley from the hidden Marines, and the other two teams leaders was like a solid curtain of phase energy. The mercenaries looked dumbfounded as the energy not only swept over them, but continued to move down the hillside, into the wall, crumbling some of the men that stood there as well, along with a portion of the wall. "Trent! Trent, report!" Leo called looking around for the man.
Trent's eyes opened and he quickly looked over himself from behind the rock. Satisfied that all of his limbs were where they were supposed to be, he tapped his comm badge. "I'm alright, Sir. Is, it clear?"
Kara and her team stayed in position, covering both Ternt and the other team. She noticed two mercenaries slowly raising their weapons. She shot them both with her phaser rifle and watched them drop. "All clear," she said to the Lieutenant. Even so, she stayed in position, keeping an eye out for more mercs.
Leo, and his team stood. "Alright you two, its time for you guys to get in there. I'll be at the opening, and we'll get this mission done and over with copy?"
"Copy." Kara nodded to Trent. "You heard the man. Let's move it."
She pulled out a phaser and moved in.
Signaling his men, Leo's fire team drew close to him, and took a 360 view of the area, making sure that no one was going to sneak up as his men took the front of the building, and then later on down the road, the rest of the thing. His two Heavy Weapon experts looked jumpy, except it wasn't the battle worn jumpy, but the private fresh from basic jumpy. "Easy men, we're here until they signal us to come in and secure the front door, then the fun begins as we wait."
