Both hands held onto the handles of the bike tightly as the bike began to pick up speed on the swerving road. It seemed that the noise from the bike of the bike was all that anyone could hear for miles as it pushed up an incline. The rider on the bike kept his focus on the road not wanting to go off the road. It would cause some serious injury to him and the bike.
The road ran along an ocean coast. On one side was a cliff that was at least 100 meters and on the other side was a forest. It was an actual road on Earth the rider was one once. He loved riding it so much that he decided to bring it with him.
He took a quick left than a right. He would have been able to do this in his sleep if he needed to. The next thing coming up was a decline, than a five kilometer straight away that brought him closer to the ocean. When the tide was high the waves would hit the cliff and often water would reach the road. Lucky for him the waves were calm.
This part of the road often scared him but it thrilled him at the same time. He increased his speed once he reached the bottom of the hill. He would often get the bike past 200 KPH at this part of the road. This was one of those cases. The bike went flying down the road. He had a grin on his face that would only be seen on a child.
As that part of the road came to an end he decreased his speed and brought his bike around a corner. There was a spot coming up to which he could pull in. It over looked the ocean and it had a great view of the sun set. He pulled up into the top and came to a complete stop. After turning the bike off putting it on its leg stand as he got off it.
Next his helmet came off and he rested it on the seat. Maxwell walked over to the railing and leaned on it looking down at the waves as they hit the cliff side. He pulled out his sun glasses and put them on then looked at the sun as it was setting.
The road of an engine echoed in the background. That took his attention off the sun set. He didn't program the program to run any other riders on the road. It was suppose to be only him. He didn't like unexpected company, but before he could ask the computer about the other bike he saw it come into view.
The rider pulled out next to him. The person was wearing riding jacket, jeans, boots, gloves and a helmet, but from the body form he could make out that it was a female. They placed the bike on the leg stand as they got off and went for their helmet. Their back was to him so the first thing he could see was the raven colored hair of the person. After the helmet came off the turned around and smiled at him.
He immediately recognized the person. It was the Commanding Officer of the Marine detachment aboard the Salvation. She had been very welcoming to him. She allowed him to use the Marine facilities on the ship and even train with her people while they were in route for the Calypso. "Major Magnus. I didn't expect to see you in here."
"Please, call me Helen." She said with a grin on her face and walked over to the railing like he had done. She leaned on it looking around and smiling. "I couldn't resist. I didn't think I would find anyone else running a program with an open road just riding their bike."
At first it was strange to him that he should address her by her first name. She was an officer and he was an enlisted. It was almost two different worlds between the two. "I hadn't expected anyone else to be interested in such a thing either." He moved back to where he was standing before.
Helen looked at him and smiled. "I have always liked riding bikes. Back on Earth when I was growing up my father had one just like that one over there." She motioned to the bike she had come on. "I would sneak it out when he wasn't home and ride it until one day when I ended up wrecking it." She laughed remembering it.
Maxwell had looked back at the bike. It was a nice bike. It was an older model than his but it was still a very nice powerful bike that could run with the best of them. He looked back to her than at the sun setting. Neither of them said anything else for a few minutes as the sun finally set. The lights along the road had already come on.
Helen turned to him. "Tell you what, if you beat me down to Sunset Caf I will treat you to a drink, but I highly doubt that will happen." Helen said as she walked over to her bike grabbing the helmet.
"I see you have been on this road before." Maxwell stated. She had obviously known that the Sunset Caf was located at the edge of the road.
"You can say that." She responded as she put the helmet on.
Maxwell had walked back to his bike and put his helmet on as well. He took a seat on the bike and kicked up the leg stand placing the key in the ignition.
"So, do we have a deal?" Helen asked.
Maxwell looked over at her as the road of his engine starting echoed in the surrounding area around them. His head lights came on and he smirked. "You're on Major." He turned the bike around and got back on the road.
"I thought I told you to call me Helen." She yelled at him as she turned her own bike around and raced to catch up to him so they could start their little race.
