Analyzing the Device

Mission: Peace, or Something Like It
Location: USS Calypso - Cybernetics Lab
Timeline: Current

[USS Calypso - Cybernetics Lab]

The cybernetics lab had one computer that was isolated from everything to allow scientists to examine Borg technology without threat of anything being able to hook into the ship's computer or into the secondary science database. It was this computer Ronnie used to scan the neural implant. As soon as she put it into the scanner the device in her hand activated and began to send signals to the implant. Fascinated, Ronnie pulled out her tricorder and began to scan. After several minutes, she tapped her combadge.

=A= Lieutenant Tovan, could you meet me in the cybernetics lab? =A=

"I'm on my way." Delon responded. He was in route back to the bridge when the call came. He rerouted the lift to head to the lab. After several minutes the doors opened and he stepped into the lab. "What do you have for me?" He asked as he approached Ronnie.

"The implant is a neural inhibiter. It suppresses a person's will. It's like a Borg implant -- sort of. The person with the device doesn't become a drone. They're still themselves, only... calmer.." She held up the device from the surface. "This is what sends the signal. It has been programmed to make the subject more passive, less eager to fight. IT can also receive signals from a third party." She shrugged. "I don't know what or where that is."

Delon nodded as he listened to what Ronnie had to say. "I suspected as much. Can you identify the origin of the device? Or anything concerning its manufacturing..."

"Not yet. It's not of any design in the computer. I'll do some research and see if I can find anything."

"If this device can receive signals from the third party...if we can get the third party to send a signal to it could we piggy back a signal of our own to maybe locate where the original signal is being sent from..?" Delon looked at Ronnie.

"It's possible, if we can find the exact frequency..." Ronnie pondered that for a minute, wondering who would have that kind of computer knowledge... except for Sam.

"Well that might be an issue. We would most likely get only one chance at sending a signal back." Delon said as he leaned on a nearby console. "It would be almost impossible to pick the right frequency..."

"What we might be able to do is keep this carefully monitored and pick up any incoming signals. Then we'd know what frequency it's using," she countered.

"Let's do that. I thing that whoever placed the device on Madam Onasi would use it as soon as they find out that she is missing." Delon pushed himself off the console. "I am leaving you in charge of this project. Let me know if you discover anything."

"Yes, sir," Ronnie said, entering data into the computer. "I'll get it set up right now."

=A= End Transmission =A=
