Mission:
Peace, or Something Like It
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: After "Organizing the troops"
ON:
Leo walked down the hall, he had several things on his mind, but it was still hell on his mind. With all that was going on, Damon had let him in on a little secret, and now he was going to begin working on it. Looking up, he noticed Private Kushner and Sergeant Melo coming out of the conference room. "Both of you, back in there please. We need to talk."
Kara raised an eyebrow but said nothing. She turned and walked back into the conference room.
Trent, who had already taken a tongue lashing earlier for stepping out of line on the planet surface, figured the Lieutenant would now be taking a turn at him. He couldn't help the quiet sigh that escaped his lips as he turned and followed after the Sergeant.
Chichire looked surprised to see them come back in so quick she still was sitting down till she saw the Lt walk in and quickly called the room to attention
Stepping in after them, he smiled. The new Corporal was already there, which made Leo shrug. "At ease, all three of you, I'm not going to be chewing anyone out... today."
Kara said nothing. She stood at parade rest and waited.
"I'll be asking for your help. I've already assigned the Corporeal to the northern landing party, checking out a civlian structure. I've got a bad feeling about that. Corporeal, on the up side you do have your choice of Marines from the three companies minus Kushner and Melo here." Looking at the two Marines he had just spoken of he sighed. "You'll be going with me to get the Captain back from the supposed Mercs. I want the both of you to get a list together of who you want on the extraction team."
"Quick question do mind if they out rank me" chi said shyly
Never one to pass on an opportunity to speak out of turn, Trent opened up first, briefly regarding his Sergeant standing beside him. "How many people will be going on each assignment?"
"Yes Corporal, you can only take Marines of your rank or lower. There's a few there. This'll be your time to shine." He looked over to Trent and sighed. "As for that question, that's going to be up to each person. For the Corporal, theres no more than seven, since we only need a fire team and a sniper team with her. With us, we have to look at the situation at hand." Tapping the padd on his hip, he looked back at the screen. "This is where we're supposed to be striking. I don't want to send too few, but I do believe in overkill as well."
Trent looked at the map and cocked his head to the side. Favoring tight end fighting, he felt he had something to add to the mission. "Looks to be close quarters, lots of corridors and rooms to clear. In this case, fewer may be better. If you add too many people they will just end up slowing progress and potentially hampering a retreat, especially if we are dragging out wounded. Besides that point, if we are engaged in a fight anywhere in this building we wont be able to bring all our guns to bear anyways; line of sight. I'd say a squad at most, with one of the fire teams holding the extraction point."
Leo nodded, and looked over to the Sergeant. "Do you have anything to add? I want twin fire teams, of which the two of you will be in charge of." Looking at Trent he smiled. "I'm going to be passing it to Major Raine that you're going to be a pro-tem Sergeant, with the possibility of having the chevrons full time." Looking back at the chart he frowned. "But I can't just sit back and watch you two go in, risking your lives. I want to dive in the mud too. Where do I fit in?"
"Isn't this more of a stealth mission? Sneak in and sneak out? There shouldn't be rooms to clear," Kara said. "We aren't going to shoot our way in. That's the easiest way to fail I know of. Now, if they attack us, all bets are off." She wasn't about to start a fight, but if someone else started it, she'd be the last person standing.
"We don't know where they are keeping the Captain and that other guy." Trent pointed out to his Sergeant. "For all we know they could be locked away deep underground. It's a lot of ground to travel when leaving our rear exposed to everyone in the building. I would rather see ourselves protected and clear out everything, or at least secure the adjacent rooms."
"Sir," Trent started as he next looked at the Lieutenant "just as a suggestion, If Kara and I are inside it might be good if you held our exit point. Not only would you be protecting our flank from outside, but if we are rushed inside you could easily come in and pinch the enemy. Additionally, with how close those Coalition guys are, I'd want a good set of eyes on them. Last thing I want is to be trapped in a dusty old merc base with an entire army bearing down on me. It doesn't hurt if that set of eyes also has the authority to call down sweet bloody hell with all of the Caly's Marines." He grinned widely. "Just as a suggestion." He repeated from the beginning.
Leo nodded. "I don't mind that at all Private. I'll hold the extraction point, under one condition." Looking at all three of them, his smile faded and he became serious. "I want updates, if you go silent for more than five minutes, I'll rain down all sorts of hell on these tunnels. Everything inside will die." Tapping out a new command, he brought up combat video from the ancient war in Vietnam. "This is childs play compared to what I will do, if you need help, either of you, I will come down there and start helping. Don't be afraid to ask for it." Looking over all three he began to smile again. "Anything else?"
"Yeah, I hope you wont be doing that," He pointed at the image on the screen "while I'm still inside the building."
"I don't think I can get my hands on any Napalm right now Trent, but I can try if you'd like." The smile was back on Leroy's face, and his joking had come back as well. "Corporeal, they're will be a certain Gunny with you. He is trading sides over to Security. If he gets in your face about any orders what so ever, you're the one in charge with that group. I'm giving you permission to stick your foot..."
"Oh I don't have a problem with that at all," she laughing as she got up "I'm going to get my team ready then hook up with the Lt." "I'm going with so we can get a plane laid out and brief my team on the mission." "Well after that well we need to do a lot so I'm off." as she left the room.
Leo looked at the Corporeal and smiled. "Get your team together and get the two fleeters ready for a landing. You leave in eight hours." Leroy then looked at the two Marines that he would be running with and smiled. "Saddle up, we're going to be moving out in eight hours as well, I don't want to waste any more time then we already have."
