[USS Calypso - Ready Room]
After returning to the bridge Delon spent a couple of minutes receiving reports from various crew members, there wasn't much of a development. Eventually he ended up in the ready room. He called up a science team to the ready room to discuss an assignment that he had for them. He placed the container with the device on the desk and sat back. He began reviewing the information collected by the Operations department while waiting for the science team to arrive.
Ronnie was the first of the science team to walk into the ready room. She'd never met the Chief Ops before, although she'd seen him a time or two on the bridge. "Hi," she said, extending her hand, "I'm Ronnie Lancaster."
"Hello, Lieutenant Lancaster..." Delon said from the other side of the desk. He motioned towards one of the empty seats. "Please, have a seat. I have an urgent assignment I'd like to discuss."
"Sure," she said, taking the proffered seat. "Lieutenant O'Connor should be here shortly. We'll be happy to do what we can to help you."
"Excellent." Delon leaned forward in the chair grabbing the container with the device and leaned across the table putting it in front of Ronnie. "Have you ever seen anything like that?" Delon asked as he leaned back in the chair and looked at Ronnie.
She picked up the container and looked at it carefully, then shook her head. "I don't think so...." She looked up at the Lieutenant. "Where did it come from?"
"From the back of the neck of Madam Lumiya Onasi, the Alliance leader from the planet we are currently in orbit of." Delon responded to her question. He didn't think that she would have seen anything like it. He hadn't either and he had seen a lot of things.
She took it out of the container and began to examine it more closely. "It's not Borg technology," she mused, half to herself. "But it was connected to her spine?" She looked up at Delon for confirmation.
"According to Doctor Hart, it was connected to the spine." Delon answered her question.
"Was it receiving any sort of signal?" she asked next.
Delon nodded. "Yes, it was. It was detected by the transporter during her transport to the ship. I had it deactivated before she beamed in, as soon as that happened she collapsed, at that point she was rushed to sickbay and the device was removed. She is fine now resting in her quarters."
"I'll take this back to the cybernetics lab. I'm pretty sure this has something to do with a device found on the surface of the planet if so..." She paused, not sure she should voice an unsupported opinion. But, as he was acting XO, she decided it wouldn't hurt. "What made you suspect something was wrong?" she asked.
"It was her interaction with me..." Delon said as he watched Ronnie. "We had spend some time together on the planet the night before the kidnapping and also met in her office after the kidnapping, however when I had sent her a transmission, she acted like she had never met me before. It was almost as if her mind had been whipped when it came to certain memories while leaving the others intact."
Jerry walked in late, as usual, but unlike usual he had a pile of PADDs and a tricorder with him, and looked at the thing that the other two had. He sat down, sort of unceremonially, and smiled at the others. "Sorry I'm late. So... what'd I miss? And what the heck is that thing?"
"From the sound of it, some sort of mind control device," Ronnie said, looking it over with interest. "We'll need to hook it up to a computer -- one that's isolated from any databases -- and see what we can find."
Tovan looked over at Jerry as he took a seat in the empty chair. "We will forgo the court martial this time Lieutenant." He looked over at Ronnie."That was my conclusion as well. And by the looks of it you already know what I want you to do so I will not waste your time explaining to you the assignment. "
One side of Ronnie's mouth quirked up in amusement. "Appreciated."
"I do ask that you keep me in the loop on all the findings that you discover concerning the device, and Lieutenant we are short on time, so sooner we know something the better." Delon stated.
"Then I should get started right away," Ronnie said. She nodded to Tovan and O'Connor, took the device. "I'll let you know as soon as I find anything," she assured Tovan before she left the room.
Jerry looked at them and nodded curtly, before looking back at the device. He pulled out his tricorder and his eyes widened. "Yeah... right away. Because I gotta be seein' things." He stood up and waited for Lancaster to pick the device up. "And, Lieutenant, can you send a holographic representation of where you found this thing and all tricorder readings from it to Science Lab I on an isolinear chip? I have a theory forming. One I don't like at all."
"I can do one better than that Lieutenant, the person that the device was located on is the VIP quarters on Deck 3. I will inform her that you might need to see her." Delon said as he looked at Jerry than over to Ronnie with a grin. He was wondering how Jerry would react to that bit of news.
Jerry looked at the two of them, not quite happy with the idea of meeting with someone from Turkana IV. He sighed and shrugged. "Sure, I'll go talk to a zombie-lady. Who knows, she might even be able to emote somewhat realistically, so I don't feel like I'm out a sense."
"Don't worry Lieutenant, she doesn't bite." Delon paused for a moment, and then added. "Too hard that is." Delon stood up from the chair heading over to the replicator. "Make sure to be diplomatic, she is a foreign dignitary we wouldn't want an incident." Before ordering he turned to them. "You're both dismissed."
Jerry nodded lightly and walked out, tapping on his tricorder and shaking his head lightly.
