Damon and Samantha walked into the main pod area to see the doctor treating Kaj and Christian.
Kaj was leaning up against a bulkhead, awash in analgesics. It felt like a major mercy considering the pain he was in earlier, but it still did not do anything to quell his concern for Christian.
As Sam and Damon walked in he looked up and instantly adopted an ironic crooked grin at the corners of his mouth.
"Well Skipper I apologize. I usually try to avoid crashing support craft until the third or fourth away mission."
The grin didn't stay there for long.
"I told the doc to just dull the pain and work on Chris. He was still breathing when we brought him up here but I don't know just how bad it is, you'll have to ask the doc. Karma helped me bring him up, I dunno if he saw anything besides that, you'll have to ask him."
Sam gave Damon an ironic grin. She felt the same way: numb the pain and take care of the others. "You'll have to talk to the Captain about the crash. It was his ship. As for me, I'm glad you're okay, but if you try and carry an injured man when you're injured yourself, I'll use you for target practice." She was only partially teasing. It was dangerous for him to do anything that could risk him to get more seriously injured.
Kaj feigned surprise. "Surely not, Skipper, I thought that's what the Marines were for.... Um, I know I have a concussion and all, but I don't suppose either of you saw something in the sand that didn't look exactly normal... forget it, I probably just banged my head harder than I first thought."
Sam shook her head, then stopped as it made her ribs hurt. "I saw something. Or thought I did. In the sand... It hit the firefly."
"What did you see, Commander," Karma asked, just catching the last of the conversation as he approached the group.
Sam paused to think for a moment. "It looked a lot like an... Eel, I think. It seemed to move like one, for the few seconds I saw it. I can't say for sure, but it was long and eel-like."
Leanne Bowen swallowed hard without saying anything.
Sam turned to Bowen. "Do you have a minute? I need a little help."
Kaj looked at Bowen earnestly.
"How's Chris doing, is he going to be alright?"
The doctor looked at Kaj, "he will live. It is not something I can't do." She didn't have much time to answer a lot of question and got busy with her patient.
Kara finished stowing her gear. It was important to make sure everything was in its proper place in case they needed it again. She made careful note of the ordnance used and for what, the results and the outcome of the recon trip. All part and parcel of a Marine's job. Or, some Marine's jobs. The CO was busy with the Skipper, so the job fell to Kara. A report was sent to the Captain's PADD for him to review when he had a moment. Then, her work done for now, she walked into the main room to see how the others were faring. Satisfied all was well, she found a seat near Sergeant Riley, pulled out a PADD and began to read.
Damon stilled his tongue when it seemed the doctor had ignored Samantha's request for assistance. He understood that she was attending a patient in need, but it was likely she didn't know the extent of Samantha's injuries. People can die from fractured ribs if a shard of bone starts to shift.
