It took her three tries to get up, but she finally managed. Before she headed for the hole, she took a bag out of her pack and filled it with sand. She'd examine it more closely when they got back to the pod.

Trent didn't like the look of the group. He would be the one to carry Christian, which meant he wouldn't be able to keep an eye on the rest of the group. "Well you're a sorry bunch." He said with a sardonic grin. "I don't want to take the risk that I lose any of you on the trip. The wind could pick up and blind us, or perhaps someone may stumble and fall into the sand." He shrugged his pack off his shoulder and dusted it off before opening it and taking out a length of rope standard to every kit. "We are all going to tie off to the rope. Lieutenant," He looked at Kaj "You will take point. You set the pace, but keep in mind that I'm going to be encumbered back here, so no rushing." He looked back to Sam. "Sound good, Commander?" He didn't want to take charge, but as it was the only non-injured member of the party and happened to be the highest ranking Marine on site.

"Okay, but I'll go last. I won't risk you getting in trouble in the back." She saw the group coming towards them. "At least we won't have to go far before we reach help."

Del'ore would of course follow her logic that told her: Never go first and never be last. She shuffled into a safe spot in the middle

Kara hurried out of the hole and over to the four officers. "Over here," she called to the others. "Let's get them inside and then the Doc can have a look." She didn't like the sand. Or the wind.

Karma followed Kara out of the hole and began looking around for the others. He wanted to get back inside as quickly as possible.

Leanne rushed over, "What happened?"

"Lieutenant Mikkola has a shoulder injury. Petty Officer Vital is unconscious," Sam replied.

She opened her tricorder to do a scan of Vital, "Concussion, broken a 10th rib, and maybe a small tear in her intestines." She turned to do a scan of Mikkola, "small fracture of your clavicle...shoulder bone." Leanne pulled out a hypospray and set the dose. She injected it to Mikkola's neck, "That will ease the pain till we can get you to a sickbay to fix it. I'll make a sling for now to keep your arm more secure..."

The hole in the side of the cave was almost 20 meters away from the firefly across the sand. The group kept to the rocks as much as possible, but there were times when they had to jump from rock to rock.

With each jump, Sam had to stop for breath. And each time the pain was greater. She tightened her harness to give herself some support and kept moving. As skipper, she didn't have the luxury of lagging behind or asking for special treatment.

Kara was in the front group so she could help people as needed. Several Marines were ahead of her and when she went to take one particularly long jump, one of the Marines moved at the wrong moment and she slipped, landing with one foot in the sand. It immediately sank and she reached out to grab someone for help. She called out for Sergeant Riley to grab her so she didn't fall into the sand and disappear.

Allen heard Kara call out from behind him. He turned in time to see her leg starting to sink into the sand. He quickly skipped over a couple of rocks and reached his hand out to grab her arm. Immediately her decent into the sand halted. He reached his other hand out and grabbed the top of a rock and used it to assist him in pulling her out of the sand. Once she was back on solid ground he simply grinned at her and patted her on the shoulder.

Sam fell further behind, telling people she was just making sure everyone else was safe. As the others were climbing into the hole, she heard and felt a thud, then a series of creaks and groans. She turned quickly to see something large and speckled disappear beneath the sand. Shortly after that, the ship slipped off the rocks and sank beneath the sand.

She watched for a minute, but saw nothing in the blowing sand. Slowly she turned and made her way to the hole in the cave wall and was helped up the one-meter climb and into the cave.
