Mission:
Broken Mirror
Location: Calypso
ON
With the Away Team on the planet, Ensign Tusarog Daow took great pleasure in manning the Science station on the Bridge of the Calypso. The Science Officer had recently been commissioned to the ship, and had been eagerly awaiting his rotation later on in the week.
The (to him) unexpected detour to the planet had brought the opportunity earlier than he anticipated. Snuffling around his tusks, the Tellarite monitored the life-signs of the Away Team as they made their way towards the clearing. Taking his duty seriously, he rarely looked away from the console in front of him.
Samantha nodded to the new arrival, then turned back to the viewscreen and the data scrolling along one side.
Danny had been more than a little reluctant to remain behind but had eventually come to terms with the fact that it wasn't going to be his place anymore to have his own boots be first on the ground.
He'd known from the moment the plans were being put together that there was a high chance his place was going to be remaining aboard the ship but it had been a battle inside his own head not to object.
Still, his Marine detachment had placed a group on standby should anything go severely wrong down below and so he'd forced himself to settle for a place on that. Of course, it was entirely his decision who would be going should the need arise so it had hardly been a battle to win that place.
A cup of strong black coffee in hand, the Marine Captain emerged once more on the bridge. He wanted to be able to keep up in real time with everything that was going on and with a number of senior members of the ship's staff a part of the away mission, Rye figured there would be plenty of space for him to lurk without getting in the way of key operations.
A quick glance over the room raised a small smile to Danny's face, the sight of those not normally tasked with such responsibilities as to man a bridge station and the fact that most were clearly enjoying their time in the spotlight drawing a plethora of memories from the early days of his career and the type that any experienced officer held - first times and the eagerness to take on as much as one thought they could handle.
Taking a seat at one of the empty stations on the right side of the room, Danny quietly sipped his coffee, his gaze settling on the main viewer and the stream of data it was currently showing.
Sam nodded to Rye, glad he was on the bridge in case the away team ran into any difficulties. Regardless of her hopes, they tended to run into trouble more often than not, and the Marines were definitely her first choice for backup.
The petite Risian counselor worked her way onto the bridge. She was out of uniform, wearing black stretch yoga pants and a form fitting t-shirt. Looking around, she warmly smiled at the crew and asked, "Anything exciting going on up here?"
"Not yet," Sam informed the counselor. "So far the away team is moving through the woods and we're continuing scans of the planet. But feel free to take a seat. If something does come up, you'll be one of the first to know." She expected...something. Whether it was to find that the scientist was dead, his place had been ransacked, or there were hostiles hiding somewhere. She had no idea, but the odds were not good that they would find nothing at all.
Bela took her seat on the bridge, crossing her legs, as she did so. She leaned forward in her chair, knowing that the Commodore was expecting something, so Bela remained vigilant, as well.
Sam looked at Bela and nodded. It might be good to have another pair of eyes. Or ears, depending on what the away team found.
Huffing, Daow ran the same scan he had run every two minutes since coming to the Bridge. Nothing has changed. So much for all the excitement happening on the Bridge. The Tellarite thought longingly of a few of the geological samples he had waiting for him from their recent survey of a Class K planet.
"We have activity." Kela said from the tactical station. As she tapped on the console she brought up some details, but nothing seemed to be coming up. "Two ships are decloaked, Commodore. I can't find any-" Before she could finish, the Ensign was cut off by a com channel being opened.
"This is Lieutenant Mackey to Bridge. The Prowler has detected two ships decloaking in the area. Our records show they are from our universe. We'll look through our records to see if we can get more details. Standby." Lieutenant Mackey said.
Kela looked put off by the interruption as she said. "They can't do that. Can they do that?" She tapped on the console. "Captain... Their ship has access to our sensors. Did we give them permission to do that?!"
"They were assigned to look out for and help deal with anyone from their universe, so they do have tacit permission," Sam said. "Raise shields and go to yellow alert."
Meanwhile in sickbay, Doctor McCabe was busy with a patient laying on a biobed. The monitor screen on the wall went blank to a black screen for a minute. He thought that was odd for a glitch to happen. He looked around to see that the other screens had the same issue. He called engineering to give a quick report of the situation and went back to his duties.
Bela shifted in her seat, the moment that the yellow alert was announced. There was not going to be any real getting comfortable, but she had to remind her body to relax so that she exuded calm for the crew. They needed to be focused.
"Bridge to Lieutenant Mackey," Sam said, "Please confirm if those ships are hostile. I don't want to shoot someone who may not be working with the pirates." Although she was pretty sure they were. But, since the Prowler had more information on pirate activities, she wanted to double check.
"What you are looking at, Commodore, is a group of mercenaries that go by the moniker The Lost." Mackey replied over the coms. "They are, more or less, hired guns in the other universe. Mainly former Terrain Officers and other fallen groups coming together to relive their glory days and getting something in return. Whether that's money, information, or technology is anyone's guess. They've been known to work with little to no details so we can't promise they will be helpful, but their ships aren't that formidable. So, they may be here to provide an escape. They won't confront us because they know they'll lose so don't expect them to make the first move."
"Good to know," Sam said. She glanced at her data screen. "However, they have raised their shields and activated their weapons, so this particular group may have another goal."
