Mission: Broken Mirror
Location: Briefing Room

[PREVIOUSLY]

He took a second to before adding. "And, as an Intelligence Officer, I know the power knowledge can hold. Often it can help in a current situation or one further down, so I know why it’s important to have that information. Which is why I am offering what we have, on the Prowler, to you. My team and I are authorized to take trips to the other universe and we try to keep up to date on what's going on. Not only for our protection but for Starfleet's protection as well. And again, should we require a trip there during this mission, I am not again collection anything new. However, speaking of someone from that Universe, I would like you and your crew to please keep in mind something important. Not everyone there shares the same ideas or beliefs as the Terran Empire. They don't consider anyone an enemy. Given what most of them had to grow up with there, the constant fighting for power and the xenophobia, chances are they have never experienced someone who doesn't have an ulterior motive or who simple just treats them as an equal. There are some, in that uniform, who do what they do because they know other way and fear the consequence." He took a moment to ponder his words because placing his hands on the table and adding. "Should we encounter a Terran Empire vessel, I do not want to initiate a fight, unless there is no other option."

"Given the history between both Universes, I don't see them just letting us leave without a fight." Damion replied.

"He's saying, not everyone on board a ship, is out for the same thing." John countered. "There are innocents onboard Terran Ships too. Just because you don't see them it doesn't mean they aren't there. Like he said, A lot of them are just doing it to survive."

'So long as I'm left in peace to scan their arrival and exit points, I'll be plenty happy,' Aenar said. 'If we have to cross over ... well, same applies. I'm interested in the data and why we're so closely hooked up to an alternate universe. As far as I know from the literature, we've not had such persistent incursions from the same place across such a length of time.'

John looked over to Alex, a confused and somewhat offended look on his face, before looking towards Aenar. "And why exactly do you need to be left in peace? What's wrong with the information we're offering?"

"He's just looking for a reason why both our universes keep crossing paths, John. That's all." Alex replied quickly as a means to pull John back from getting upset or vocally offended.

"What does it matter why we keep crossing paths. It happens from time to time. That's it. There doesn't have to be some cosmic explanation or scientific reason. It. Just. Happens." John said, as he crossed his arms and slightly raised his voice. "As long as the Terran Empire hasn't decided to knock down your doors why don't we just leave things as they are?"

"John!" Alex stood up, raising his hand toward John and taking a calming tone. "Settle down. If he wants to look for something, there is no harm in it. Maybe you're right and there isn't a reason or maybe he is and there is. What's the harm in looking?" He walked over to John and put his hand on his shoulder. "Let's get back to why we are here. Alright?"

John looked at Alex, then over to Alora, before returning his look to Alex. He gave him a quick nod.

Alex patted his friend’s shoulder again before turning to face the group. "We've managed to come up with a few theories. Keep in mind they are just theories." He said as he walked back to his seat. "There is a possibility this device is the prototype of the device we use. Maybe it was stored somewhere and stolen. Maybe the man who made the device thought he destroyed it and it wasn't."

"So, let's talk to this Miracle Inventor. Get the answer from the horse’s mouth." Remy asked in his usual cocky tone.

"We would... if not for the fact he died." Alex replied. He looked over to Alora before adding. "Which also brought up another theory. It's possible, if they have the prototype that they need someone who can maintain it. And since, the man who made it from our universe is dead, they may have his alternate from this universe helping them out. Maybe by force. Maybe willingly. So far, our contacts in Intelligence, hasn't been able to find him. From what we've gathered he was on his way to a conference but has yet to register in."

"And that is why we're working together," Sam said, hoping to turn the conversation back to their purpose. She knew there would be opinions for and against this venture, but she was all for doing whatever they had to in order to protect the Federation. And if this group wasn't part of any government entity, they might end up helping the Terran Empire as well. Although she hoped none of them would have a reason to deal with the Empire at all. "I want us to follow basic rule of spelunkers. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints. Or in our case, ion trails. We aren't going to interfere unless it's absolutely necessary and that will be determined by me and the Knights. With the precautions we're taking, that is highly unlikely. Now, are there any more questions?"

"Agreed." Joren answered gruffly, "Do we have any leads on where our smugglers are currently? The universe is big, and we'd have 2 to sift through."

'Perhaps start in the vicinity of where this inventor disappeared? They must have boarded a transport at point A, to head to the conference at Point C, and we might find them at Point B if the smugglers do in fact need them,' Aenar offered the observation with a shrug. 'Makes the universe a lot smaller.'

"True," Sam said, agreeing with both her new XO and chief science officer. "From what Commander Knight said, I believe they wish to start where this inventor lived and worked, see what they can find, and go from there." She raised an eyebrow at Alex and Alora for their response.

Alora nodded. "For now, we'll go in and see what we find. What we do next will depend on that."

Sam looked around at her senior officers. "Okay, if there are no further questions, you're dismissed. We'll leave as soon as The Prowler is ready for the jump."

Squaring his shoulders, Aenar got to his feet with a nod, and headed for the door. It seemed he had some reading to do about the Mirror Universe.

Alex looked over Alora, with a confused look, before focusing back on Sam. They never said they were going to start with the inventor from the other Universe. From their Universe. He's dead. What the said was there was a chance the duplicate of the man, the one from this Universe might have been taken. It was a long shot but it was still a shot. "Captain... I'm afraid you have it backwards." He spoke up with a bit of a smile as he continued. "The man who invented the device we use is dead. We believe his alternate, the one from this Universe, may have been capture in order to maintain the prototype. Its a theory, but its one that makes some kind of sense."

"We have two inventors, yes? One from each universe. At least, that's my assumption," Sam said. "That the double in this universe is also some sort of inventor. So, we have to look for information in two places to see if someone got the information from your universe alone, or if the inventor or scientist from this universe is somehow being used against his will. At the same time, we have to be aware there could be more thefts. I suggest we have teams start looking at what we currently have. Perhaps science and medical and security and Marines. They can work with people from the Prowler to see if we can find a good place to start. Meanwhile, I want to have a talk with a couple of admirals."
