Mission:
Eye of the Storm
Location: Conference Room
ON
It had been 24 hours since the last briefing, and Sam had a few updates. She also hoped that the senior staff would have some as well. This time, she set out a spread of fruits, croissants, and muffins. For drinks, they could replicate what they wanted.
Having been aboard a mere nineteen hours, Wash was looking to make a sterling first impression upon the Senior Staff. He checked his hair in the reflective surface of a systems access panel, ensuring that every last strand of the curly ginger mop was in its appointed place. Satisfied, he took the last few steps and entered the Conference Room. Apparently, he was the first to arrive other than Commodore York.
“Ma’am,” said Wash cordially, inclining his head in greeting. Taking a look at the offered fare, Wash placed a lemon poppyseed muffin on a small plate as well as two strawberries and five blueberries. He replicated a mocha iced coffee and took one of the seats at the far end of the table.
Sam nodded in return. "Welcome, lieutenant."
The petite Risian Counselor walked in. Without hesitation, she walked up the Commodore and gave her a warm hug.
"Hello, counselor. Good to see you again," Sam said. She was--slowly--getting used to the hugs.
Breaking the hug, Bela walked up to Lieutenant Washburn and practically cooed. "Ooh! You're new here." She gave him an extremely warm and welcoming hug, placing her head on his chest as she gave Washburn the hug. "Welcome to the Calypso. I'm the Chief Counselor, Bela Swain. All that is mine is yours."
Wash was not uncomfortable with physical touch; quite the opposite, actually. So, although the Counselor’s hug was a bit of a surprise, it was still quite pleasant. “Thank you, Counselor,” he said. “Casey Washburn, Engineer. Call me Wash please.”
Bela pulled away and smiled at Wash, her blue eyes twinkling. "Very well, Wash. I presume you're the new Chief Engineer, then...? Don't forget to make your appointment with me." She continued him a wink. "I would not have our new Chief missing out on his initial evaluation."
Wash raised his cup in salute. “I’ll have an appointment on the books by end of shift today.”
"Wonderful!" Bela enthused, as she sat next to Wash, waiting for others to arrive.
Walking in with a wave, Aenar quickly took his seat. It was close to the beginning of his shift, and he was feeling it. Hopefully the large mug of steaming coffee he'd lugged with him would change that. 'Hello, everyone.'
Kara came in with Jayna, the two talking quietly about the information they'd found in the last batch of data from the lunar facility and the traps that left it a mostly-hollow building. Kara went to the replicator while Jayna got herself a plate of fruit and sat where she could watch everyone.
When Kara and Jayna came in, Bela got up from her seat, walked around and gave each a warm hug.
Dwight McCabe came in quietly to take a seat. He returned a few days ago by shuttlecraft. The doctor has been away for a while dealing with his sick mother on Earth. She eventually passed away and he had time to grieve while a proper burial was done. It hasn’t been easy but time will heal. Joining in with the crew, he thought might help keep his mind busy for a while.
Damion entered the conference room quietly with a mug already in hand. He looked tired, but was awake enough to listen. He wasn't sure if he would contribute.
When everyone was seated, Sam began. "I hope you had time to come up with feasible ways to help the Remen decide to evacuate the planet. I should also add that I got a message from the USS Thunderbird. They came looking for us and should be here in twenty-four hours."
Bela looked around the table, curious what crewmembers would speak up and how they would present their ideas.
"From the information we gathered at the lunar facility, and the trouble we ran into the last time, we should expect them to leave, but not without doing some damage. That could involve the colony, or they could booby trap their facility."
Kara nodded. "I've got some people with ordnance training. I'll make sure they're prepared to deal with any explosives or traps. We also have a hundred combat-ready Marines, plus support."
Sam nodded. "I agree with both of you. I don't want anyone--especially colonists--walking into a trap. Kara, tell the Marines they're on standby."
Damion let out a sigh before taking a sip of his coffee. Shaking his head slightly.
Kara nodded and made a notation on her PADD.
"Damion, I'd like you on weapons. If they choose to fight, I want my best on the bridge," Sam said.
"Jayna, has Remy found any new information?"
"Not yet. Although I hear that scientist from the planet is talking."
"Yes. Hans has been with him as he is also looking at the files from the colony," Sam replied. She looked around at the others. "Any other suggestions?"
Bela wondered aloud, "If we are to convince the Remans to leave, would it not be best to make their situation seems unwinnable? Cut off their communications? Perhaps an area stun from space?" She bent her head down and blushed lightly. "I'm not a strategist...."
"Later, yes, but right now, we are monitoring their communications," Sam replied. "They know we're here, and they know we found the facility on the moon, but they don't, as yet, know we found their base of operations."
"Once we block their communications, they will know and will most likely prepare to either attack or hide," Jayna added. "They do not have the capacity to evacuate everyone. And we do not want anyone on the outside to become suspicious before we are ready."
