| Physical Description | Outwardly, Wash appears little different from your average thirty-something Terran male. He is not athletically built, but he does maintain a better than expected fitness standard for an Engineer. Wash has wavy red hair, worn just short enough to keep from being a nuisance and make it a sort of ‘wash and go’ look. Wash has big blue eyes, with several layers of color that make them, in the right lighting, appear as faceted jewels. | Personal History | Casey Washburn, or Wash as he prefers to be called, was born in Chicago in the year 2360. His father worked as a civilian computer specialist for the Federation Security Council, and his mother was a full time parent. When Wash was six years old his mother and older brother Adam were killed in an explosion at Chicago’s main public transportation hub (along with nineteen others). Broken, his father retreated into alcohol and drug use. His father’s condition left the young Casey to mostly fend for himself; this left Wash with a self-reliant attitude that was difficult to shake. As a student Wash was decent, and did particularly well in technical subjects. Knowing that his destiny would take him away from Chicago eventually, Wash began at age 16 to prepare for Starfleet entrance exams. He loved his father, but the elder Washburn was a broken man and his son could not picture himself thriving if he stayed at home. Wash took the entrance exams twice, passing and gaining admission to the Academy on his second try. Going to San Francisco for the Academy was Wash’s first real trip out of metro Chicago. In placement testing, Wash had scored particularly well in Engineering and Computers; therefore, he declared his major to be Engineering. He graduated in 2382 and was placed as an Ensign on the Nebula class USS Geneva as a Computer Systems Specialist. Diligence and hard work eventually earned him a promotion in 2386 and he stood watch in Engineering on Gamma shift. It was not his first choice of position, but he gained valuable experience and leadership skills. In 2388 Wash was transferred to the Galaxy class USS Universe as Assistant Chief Engineer. He stayed on the Universe until it was decommissioned in 2391; after a month long vacation, Wash was selected as Chief Engineer of the Galaxy class USS Majestic. Wash asked for a transfer in 2395 following a nasty breakup and was named Chief Engineer of the USS Calypso. |
